    Trading with other players

Ah, gotcha. Also, on a side note, trading through a window may be a fairly safe tactic. Keeps some distance but still allows for items to trade hands.

    Trading with other players

That's why you're both equipping your backpacks into your hands. Kinda like having your hands up. It's a mutual sign of "I'm friendly -- pull out you're backpack and we can safely approach" -- but you can also run like the wind if they start to unequip their backpack and begin to pull out a gun. It will probably take enough time for you to gain some distance.

    Spears

stick + knife = sharpened stick (crude spear) stick + knife + rope = stick with a knife attached to it (improvised spear) Could be interesting early game.

+1, simple and sweet. More ideas need to be like this.

A percentage on saline/blood bags makes sense.

    Blood Bags and The Pen

A very simple, excellent idea. +1

    More hostage tools.

While I'm not keen on all of the ideas in this thread, I do believe that making hostage-taking "fun" would help to greatly reduce the rampant KOS behavior. People KOS simply because they're bored after reaching end-game, and they don't want to risk losing their character. So if hostage taking is more fun (and less risky) than just simply killing someone on sight, you'll see the game drastically change to something a lot more interesting.

Sewing kit + different colored pens = tattoos (!)

I used to develop video-games as a 3d modeler and UV artist -- until I got out of it. From a content-creation standpoint, tattoos would be stupid easy to implement. It feel like, for at least for a few simple designs, it's something I could do over a few lunch breaks. I'm referred to user-selected tattoos. Custom-created tattoos, however, would all look horrible -- and yes, probably consist of nothing but vulgarity and penises. Not to mention, it's technically very complicated and would require a significant amount of overhead to store/deliver all these custom crappy drawings for each client. It just makes a lot more sense to have the user craft a pre-set tattoo. Easy to implement, a way to customize your character over time, and one more reason to keep your character alive.

    Realism suggestions

I climb mountains practically every week -- and very rarely, if ever, do I not stop when I take a drink. Just saying. Walking while drinking is sort of a fumbling experience. As for more realistic loot spawns, yes. I've always found it weird that loot spawns so predictably in some places, and never in others. That, and when you walk in, nonsensical crap is just lying on the floor. Also, I'd like to see the oh-so-necessary "pilgrimage to a military base" eventually be done away with. Successfully infiltrating and looting a military base on an empty server should not be the "I win" button that it is now.

    Improved Loot [SA]

Some books in DayZ teach you interesting in-game combinations (ex: how to make an improvised backpack with canvas/rope/twigs, and other crafting choices). Something to consider: Some water-heaters may provide for a safe, indoor water source. This could be added to some locations. Realistic loot spawns from objects. For example, guns from gun cabinets, food/drinks from fridges, office supplies from desks, ammo from ammo boxes, clothes from closets/dressers. Most of the time in DayZ is spent scavenging. Let's make that more interesting, realistic and fun. I want to *feel* like I'm looting and ransacking a place. Possible alternative solution for server-switching penalty timers: What if switching servers deactivated visibility of all loot for *your character only* within a limited range? This would, in effect, force server-hoppers to move outside of the general vicinity in order to find loot. This could effectively curb-stomp server-hopping issues altogether. This may be a controversial idea, but hey, that's what this forum is for. Thanks for reading. Can of beans for your thoughts? And as always, hats off to the devs.

At the very least, there should be a steam achievement for burning books. The world has ended, and here you are, burning books as firewood. It's almost poetic.

Sewing kit + different colored pens = tattoos (!)

Yeah, the point is that this goes more in line of "character customization" Like beards. Why? Because it adds flavor and a sense of progression.

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

PVE hive, Normal hive, Hardcore hive. Characters cannot transfer between hives. Basically easy, medium and hard. Done done and done. Everyone can play the version of the game they want, scaleable amount of servers according to demand. We can all go home now. Everyone calm your nipples.

    Crafting Options for Mosin Nagant

Cutting burlap into strips to make camouflage for all weapons, and even article of clothing, is downright genius.

A 5-10 minute timeout on the aforementioned server-hopping prevention would be brilliant.

    VHF multi-channel two-way radios

Portable/Mobile radios have limited range (up to a few kilometers, depending on geography) and multiple channels. Think about that for a moment. Such a device, if used in-game, could be used to communicate with other random players in the (very) local vicinity -- presuming they have one too. Here's a proposal for such a device, and how it could be incorporated into the game: Takes two nine-volt batteries. When badly damaged, it can no longer broadcast a signal. Could still be useful for listening. Ruined radios only spit out static. To speak through the radio, you equip it, and then use the in-game voice broadcast. This broadcasts your voice to any other radio that is currently on and switched to that channel (and within range). As the range falls-off, the voices coming through get more and more static-y. When equipped, left-click changes the channel. Has 8-channels.If inventory is an issue, this could be attached to your hip, or to a utility belt of some sort (please please please).Leaving the radio on, in your inventory, still allows for broadcasts to come through (on its set channel). Not recommended if you're trying to be stealthy.Could be used to initiate commands with buddies from a long-distance away, without having to rely on third-party programs such as teamspeak. Could use this radio to coordinate with a team of snipers to hit targets simultaneous from different angles.Could be used to communicate with bandits/friendlies from a distance. Could immensely add to tension, or could immensely de-escalate tension (depending on the situation).Eavesdropping on a channel could lead to getting the drop on someone (or multiple parties that are communicating).Could be used to ask for help when things get really rough (this is obviously risky, but beats dying). If this were to be implemented, a radio scanner may be another possible item. Also, you are all sexy beasts and I probably love you.

    VHF multi-channel two-way radios

Man, I should think up ideas more often -- only to find out that they're actually true. Maybe present me controls the developers from the past with my mind... That being said, I still want voices to be static-y with distance falloff. You know, if it's not already there. And leaving the thing on in your inventory. Also, if they really are in game, how come I haven't come across one in my dozens of hours of play? They seem more rare than can openers.

    Children

I don't feel comfortable with this idea. There's just nothing about it that resonates with me. I mean, I really, really don't want to shoot little kids. Maybe it's just me...

    Timekeeping devices!

Oh, you need a reason? I got a thousand, and I ain't sharing, but hey -- I'm feeling generous. I'll throw a couple at ya. Digital watches, analog watches, pocket watches are just straight-up trendy, friendly, and oh-so sexy. Who wants too look like trash when they're desperately looking for a can-opener? I know you don't. This is survival -- but in style. Analog timekeeping devices help with orienteering -- especially without a compass. Point the hour-hand towards the sun, and boom, the halfway point between the hour-hand and noon is south (or north, if it's before 6am or after 6pm). WHAT NOW MOTHERTRUCKERS? People will think you're a wizard, and who knows, you might even become one with this knowledge. You'd become a walking, talking compass. It's like post-apocalyptic magic. With a digital timekeeping device, you can look at the location of the sun, imagine a clock-face, and do the same trick as in #2. Because your imagination skills are boss, that's why. That's right, bittersnitches, you're now like a freaking boy-scout. You're even all prepared and shiznit. Maybe even all morally straight, too, but that's doubtful. Because this game simulates murder more than orienteering, but oh well.A can of beans for your thoughts. Not bribery, just business.

    Misc Crafting Ideas [SA]

Player corpses can be used to create ear necklaces when combined with a knife and string :x (could be used to scare/intimidate people, or for bragging rights and/or bandit self-identification). Rope and anything sharp (knife/machete/hacksaw) could be used to create said string. Bandannas, or spray-painted rags, can be to create arm-wraps (to distinguish who is "in-group" and "out-of-group" at a glance). I may or many not be mentioning this because I accidentally got killed by my very-own group after looting our victims ;) Sticks and anything sharp (knife/machete/hacksaw) can be used to create an improvised, sharpened stick (improvised zed-skewering weapon). This could be especially be useful early-game, before firearms are a thing. I could see this item later being used to create spike-fences to keep idiot zombies at bay, barricading style, a la The Walking Dead (once crafting goes into full-gear, of course). Firewood and hacksaw/axes can be used to create split firewood, which basically act like sticks in all forms of crafting. Duct-tape, a flash-light, and a gun could make for a simple, improvised weapon attachment (with some penalty in using the sights, perhaps). Duct-tape could be used as non-sterile bandaging (much like rags). That, or making improvised splints when attached with sticks. Duct-tape can upgrade any "ruined" item into the "badly damaged" status. I mean, it's friggin' duct-tape (!!)You are all heroes, and probably wizards too.
