    Barbed Wire .. Getting really annoying now

    I tried to get into a medium yield on the coast after I spawned and was blocked from the building completely with it. I just moved on. I don't yet know how the fence works, like if there is an item you have to find to build more, or if it just magically is generated from the tool. If I knew this, I could better form an opinion. If fence materials have to be scavenged, then I guess it seems fine someone puts it where ever they want. If the tool just magically spews fence, then it's a little silly.

    Server Locking

    I get the idea that those who host servers love the game enough to do so and/or appreciate getting their clan/orgs name out as supporting the mod and its development. If you do not support the mod enough to follow the rules and want your own private experience, your hosting is not needed. If you do not believe the experience Day Z is supposed to give is the preferable experience, then it's not the game for you or you have some suggestion threads to make. I do not host a server, but am thankful to those that do.

  8. As of .5 it can now be stored in your tool belt rather than standard inventory. This allows you to stick your primary gun in your bag, if you have enough space, and go hatchet mode, then when you're done, return it to the belt and get your gun back out. Hatchet is great, but it's not too helpful if you're surrounded. It's a great way to eliminate aggro waiting outside a building for you trying to creep in a single door way.

  10. Weapon to kill the animal, knife to gut the animal, hatchet to cut wood (or pick up wood somewhere), and matches to build and start the fire. Once the fire is on, just scroll wheel to select "cook meat." The single command will cook any meat you have on you at once. Animals are often found around farms and towns. Good luck, friend.
  11. I played with the melee weapons extensively. Crowbars seem to kill a zombie in three strikes, hatchets in one strike. They have very short ranges, so a lot of the time you could miss by not actually being close enough. You can also attack through walls with them. I reported it already as a bug, but you could run into a building or around a fence, and if you stay near the wall, they will try to attack through it, which doesn't seem to happen anymore, but you can still hit them. I especially love having a reload animation for the hatchet.
  12. Canned food regenerated 200-300 blood or something, and cooked meat from an animal regenerates 800. If you've got a weapon to kill an animal with, matches, and a hatchet or wood, cook yourself up some meat.

    Even in the state the game is in now, I have a lot of fun. I also hope my input to the game via forums or bug reports can help improve the game I plan on playing more of in the future.

    PKing is rewarded, friendly play is punished

    I don't think a new statistic tracked in the debug monitor is going to have any effect on whether or not some guy pushes lead into my domepiece. As it is now, there are bad people and you deal with it long enough to see yourself become a bad person. Hopefully you got people you play with on skype, ts, or vent. re "endgame" - Endgame in Day Z is when you die.

    I see so many posts like this I am forced to wonder whether the game is broken for me to not be having these problems.
  18. **EDIT - SOLVED** The post rocket made in response to another user here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=13131&pid=122025#pid122025 has resolved my issue. I completely deleted all previous DayZ files in the @DayZ folder and allowed six launcher/updater to reinstall the mod completely. I believe everything seems ok now. Enjoy the now silly and pointless youtube video. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I uploaded a video on to youtube for staff/mods/whoever to observe. Date/Time: 6/17/2012, 0:00-2:20 GMT-5 (US East Coast) What happened: After struggling to get into a server for about an hour after 1.7.1 rolled out, we decided to try a Russian server. We logged in and noticed immediately that we were invisible and could not see our bodies in third person. We decided of course the next best course of action was to run to NW Airfield only to find we could not see any other zombies/loot/players anything, but we could freely chat with players on the server. We then gave up eventually and chose to respawn and become weaponless noobs, but upon death we had a 5 second timer to respawn and arrived in a no man's land with bodies, standing and down, all over the place. Upon inspection, the items and packs these player bodies had were searchable and (some of them) lootable. Some player characters could be shot and killed in this place, but not all. We also saw some spawn and run a bit, then go still. Eventually we chose to leave the server and come back, to test, only to find we spawned in the exactly location our characters were saved to and spawned in when we first joined. Where you were: Initially, new Gvozdno, then to the NW airfield, and then to this weird repository of bodies. What you were doing: A lot of running, and then looting the bodies and shooting. *Current installed version: ArmA2OA 1.60.93825 Day Z 1.7.1, updated from the warrom Day Z updater *Server(s) you were on: I don't remember the number now, but it was a Russian one, RU##. *Your system specs: AMD Phenom 2 Quad @ 3.5 Ghz ATI/AMD 6950 softmodded to 6970 specs 6GB DDR3 *Timeline of events before/after error: We played for several hours the night before this and decided to log out on the side of a road near Gvozdno. At around 11PM we began trying to log into something, then realized 1.7.1 was out, got it, then continued trying until we finally got into a random RU server. We usually play in the Atlanta ones, but could never spawn in them. Got stuck on "Receiving Data" or the "loading." Hope this is of some help. It could even be something stupid we did, mayeb not installing something right. I don't know. **EDIT** I read a thread rocket posted in with someone having a similar issue. Trying to completely delete all files and reinstall them. Where you were: Any building in game What you were doing: Swinging crowbars and hatchets *Current installed version: 1.7.1.4 *Server(s) you were on: North Carolina 4 *Your system specs: AMD Phenom 2 Quad @ 3.5 Ghz, ATI 6950 modded to 6970 specs, 6 gigs DDR3 rams, crazy good broadband *Timeline of events before/after error: nothing specific Attacking Through Walls In my game play with both crowbar and hatchet tonight, I was able to strike zombies through walls or other obstacles. For example, I ran into a house to hide from zombies, but could slowly kill them all from inside the house, by striking at their position through the wall. I was also able to attack through fences. The zombies on the other sides of these things would want to swing at me, but they fail to land a hit through the wall (which is good), but while they try, I beat them down. Melee Attack While Prone This may be more of a personal opinion, but I also noticed I could do full swings of these weapons while prone. So I could prone up to a zombie, smack em in the legs, and take them down, albeit very carefully. Doing ax swings while prone just seems odd. Maybe disable their use in prone, like throwing weapons. ------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to end this by saying the melee weapons are a great addition, and I found myself debating taking another primary over my hatchet several times. I enjoy a silent option to eliminating the stray zombies that sniffs out my trail, or funneling zombies into a corridor and whackin em one by one.

    What happens when DayZ is out of alpha?

    I am willing to bet if this community continues to grow, and the popularity keeps stable, we could see Day Z code ported into Arma 3. If Day Z has sold 100k+ copies of Arma 2, it would probably serve as a significant bump in Arma 3 sales. Not to mention even better visuals than I already have. Wishful thinking...

    Primary weapon disappearing.

    I can report upon connecting to North Carolina 4, with 1.7.1.4, my primary weapon was gone along with any throwing weapons/flares/etc I had.

    No gun, so give us a knife upon spawn?

    I always kind of hoped players would spawn inside a house that already has random loot piles in it. Then take whatever you have available in your house before leaving the house. The only set back is people suiciding to find a house with the desired set of randomized items.
