Need some opinions here.

That just sounds so boring to do. -
Sounds like your character state wasn't saved for some strange reason then. As far as I know, character states are saved every 60 seconds, so eating or drinking, then immediately logging out can result in your character not gaining the effect, but still losing the item. Why it didn't save in 20 minutes, I don't know. Good luck on your next life though.

First is a steamy pile. The second doesn't work. The disconnections are happening due to process terminations, not manually logging out. I could still avoid combat by simply killing the arma 2 process, loading it back up, and playing on another server. The only way to really stop combat avoidance d/c is to maintain a player's logging for a given amount of time after loss of connection. Regarding hopping for items, those players have to run 30+ meters away from the item spawns anyway; logging out inside a building is exactly what they don't want. -
A lot of people like to bring misfortune to others. Many online sandboxes give players that ability. That is fun for them. Reading threads like this, a result of their actions, is fun for them. For me, fun is establishing a base/camp/town to operate out of and establish a safe area for travelers. In it's current state, I can't really do that, but I like the game enough to play it anyway.

I Can't even Play this game!!!
Dingus (DayZ) replied to cjones636's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to play it super safe, use an online map and just find resources and weaponry in deer stands or other smaller towns. Big cities are about high risk and high reward. I really only bother going to them when I'm just starting out a new play through and can afford that risk. -

Help with Dayz mod plz!!
Dingus (DayZ) replied to Barney (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/intro.aspx Search for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead I don't know how accurate these are, but I don't want to give you a possibly incorrect answer. I want to say your rig looks good enough, though, maybe with some decreased settings. -

Good thing he's just an armchair moderator. -
I'm not against people asking for help, but when they do, they should provide more details than this. What server will you be on? What town? Without either of those, no one will have any means to help you.

What I think is really making people angry at this game.
Dingus (DayZ) replied to JinxX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can agree that less than veteran players find the game play experience lonely. However, that is kind of the point. On top of that are people who see a youtube video of a small group of people having a blast, who then decide to drop $30 on Amra 2 exclusively for Day Z, log in, and realize they aren't having the same kind of fun that is in the video they saw. -
That chicken that's been in the fridge 4 days past the sell by date? The one you said smelled just fine before you threw it into your George Foreman? Yeah, it wasn't fine.

I was wondering when one of these would pop up today.

No worries. it was a pleasant read, unlike other long-winded threads. In regards to fantasizing then, the more fine-tuned roccket is able to shape his "vision," the more players he may lose as truly not everyone shares the exact same vision. I've been on board with most changes thus far, but I can admit I may eventually disagree with a change at some point. At the very least, the realization of his vision and the support it has received could spark a new trend or genre as others modify the concept to other visions. Even if Day Z doesn't maintain the 500,000 players or whatever the numbers are, an accomplishment was made in regards to showing the industry the kind of games players are looking for and that there are other avenues towards making them. -
Romero Zombie vs Rage Infected
Dingus (DayZ) replied to drewmaw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I prefer Romero zombies myself. However, there are a lot of changes to gameplay having Romero zombies would have, particularly when it comes to the choice to fire a weapon or not. Slow zombies make firing your weapon less threatening, especially for our sniper friends. Adding Romero zombies would require several changes to "rebalance" the use of firearms. -

I think so, yes. The gaming industry is built on hype though, and I think that behavior pattern is already ingrained in the consumer base. Day 1 buy, pre-order, etc. Buying Arma 2 now, and playing the alpha, is like a pre-order in a way to a lot of people joining up, and it wasn't intended to be that way. "This game is going to be great, better pre-order and get beta access now!" I kind of addressed this, but yeah. You are spot on. A large number of people who are buying into Arma 2, solely for Day Z, will be disappointed, likely without even trying Arma 2 itself. I don't think their disappointment will spread much though. There is, like you said, a niche here that is very much enjoying the direction of things. Those complaints and boohooing about wasted money will fall on deaf ears. This I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "fantasized over." As early in development as it still it, there is a lot of room for fantasy. Maybe if someone's fantasy doesn't match up to the dev team's there would be some disappointment, but like I said, there's a niche here, a very masochistic (even sadistic, you bandits you) niche. -

Probably by buying it. Most of those programs offer trials where watermarks are placed on the recorded footage.

Should I update my Arma 2 Beta Patch?
Dingus (DayZ) replied to DeTaiLz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think 1.7.2 requires at least beta patch 94444 now, so I would think so. A lot of the updater clients do it automatically as well. -
I don't care.
