Hello! Please vote only after reading this post. While playing today I decided to pick up a pen and a sheet of paper somewhere to put a note, and obviously to check how does it work. After doing so I have noticed a bug regarding to it and I eventually started thinking about advancing the entire note system. THE BUG: When you are writing a note you don't actually see what have been written before on that particular sheet of paper. And your note will be added at the end of the first one, which is realistic (because you can't erase something with a pen), but looks awful. For example, when someone already wrote "Hello" and you write "Bye" after that, the note will look like this: "HelloBye". I believe this bug would be easy to fix. THE ADVANCED SYSTEM: Currently, creating a note opens up a window where you can type anything using your keyboard. I know it may be a placeholder but I think that it would be better if you could only draw something (like in paint). That way every note would be original (because every person has different handwriting), thus realistic. And imagine what fun would that be when you could draw just about anything: a funny picture or meme, or maybe a small map with hidden loot you just left (which obviously could be a trap) and many, many more. But I guess it would be more resource-expensive compared to the current system. THE DIARY: I think that every player should start the game with a diary. It would work in the same way as a sheet of paper but with some differences: player wouldn't be able to drop it (it would not use any inventory space) and it would contain several pages (10 for example). On the first page though it could track various statistics. And upon death, everyone could loot (or just read) the dead guy's diary. You could see how many days he survived, how many players has he killed and his personal notes. Imagine the feeling when you stumble across some guy, kill him and while looting his gear, you read that he survived 6 days and had 5 pages of personal notes regarding his journey in Chernarus, how he has helped other survivors, barely survived an encounter with armored bandits yesterday, etc. You would feel regret. And that is called immersion. What do you guys think?

Good idea.

Did they fix the long loading time and give ability to pick spawn point?
fisheye replied to luzarius's topic in General Discussion
It's fine I didn't understand half of that post... :P But surely, we all get the point. The game is about PERMADEATH. Anything that will help you to be certain about something (like knowing that if I die I can easily spawn in Balota and quickly gear up) will destroy that uncertainty feeling. You died when you were hanging out with your friends? What a shame. And it is your punishment for not being careful enough - that random spawn, that running to be with them again. It's all about this game is. Oh, and no, they haven't fixed tents yet and there are still no vehicles in game. -
Apparently, my friend, you haven't read the entire topic.
-
I don't think that every single statistic should be available to everyone else. That way, a looted diary would show only some of them. Or maybe the player could choose which would be available to be seen upon his death.
-
Good point. Otherwise people would spam notes after spawning.
-
Yeah, I think that it's a must-have feature in a game like this. People love to see their progress, statistics, they could easily compare theirs with their friends'. And I think that developers should implement some kind of stats page available in Steam Community (like in Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, etc.).

It would be cool if the bodies stayed on the ground forever, without the ability to loot them all this time of course. And I'm sure that penises and racist pictures would only be drawn for some time just after implementing such a system. Then people would get bored of it and start creating something more interesting.
-
Yeah, seems good, though I think that "overall" page should be visible only to the owner of such a diary. They shortened the time so that you can't die and run to your body to get back your gear (especially when playing with friends).

It would be good to have a maximum of 2 characters per mode (2 for hardcore and 2 for regular). More than 2 would destroy the sense of permadeath. And why 2 characters per mode? Because I believe there are some players who won't play hardcore at all (CoD kiddos) and again, some players who are not interested in regular as well. I currently play on hardcore alone and I have a group of friends who also play on hardcore. And because I don't want to meet up with them every time they are all available, it is a problem for me. I have to choose: only to play alone (which I very like) or with friends (which I like too). Anyway, when private hives arrive later, the problem will be solved in a certain degree.

Pending Changelog: Experimental branch: 0.34.XXXXX
fisheye replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Rocket, whenever you update changelog, could you add a corresponding date at the end? For example: Inventory: Loot would stay on dead character after it is picked up, causing teleporting loot and general chaos (07/02)Please do that, I believe that most users would love it. -

Give 2 choices for logout timer: "wait" and "exit now"
fisheye replied to knar33's topic in Suggestions
Don't try to be a know-it-alls. They are the programmes, and when they say it is hard to do, then indeed it is hard to do. I have some experience in programming and I know how complicated some systems/alghoritms can be. It may look simple on the outside but believe me, it doesn't have to be like that inside. -
Give 2 choices for logout timer: "wait" and "exit now"
fisheye replied to knar33's topic in Suggestions
Thread's title is misleading. Most people think that it is another topic where somebody wants to be able to cancel the logout process. Of course, I agree with the idea. We should be able to see what's going on, without the ability to do anything. Additionally, the idea of being able to instantly log off when you previously were idle for 30 seconds is, in my opinion, a cure for those whiners that don't like the current system. But doing so may require you to stay for 60 seconds. In the end, it would provide both safety and combat logging prevention. -

Or maybe, after every restart, several randomly picked deer stands spawn some rare loot and there are maps, which mark current locations of those stands. What do you think?
-
A timer would be okay. Of course, if we couldn't cancel it in any way.
-
Oh, really? Then read again my previous post. @ DJPorterNZ: You can use "MultiQuote" button to quote multiple posts and give answer in just one :)
-
You want to be able to cancel it? Imagine this situation: a player is pinned down in a building. He is obviously camping the doors, so that he can shoot anyone who comes inside. He is doing A COMBAT LOG. And the timer appears. Somebody actually comes inside the building, the guy cancels his logout process and shoots him down. Then again, he attempts to combat log and this time manages to succeed. And now ask yourself a question: what did that TIMER changed in terms of preventing combat logging? Nothing. If you ever question unpleasant changes, try to think about them from every perspective. And by the way: this post is addressed to everyone who doesn't like current 30 seconds waiting period. Think about it.

I think that this topic should be closed. People here are talking about the new patch already, so why not make them go to the other thread? Moderators, what do you say? -
What Exactly Do We Want From Loot/Zombie Respawning?
fisheye replied to - Karma -'s topic in Suggestions
Once in 12/24/48 hours? What the hell? Servers restart every 4 hours (if I'm right about this) and with every restart the loot and zombies are being respawned. So what is the point of an additional respawn once a day? -
First of all, servers aren't capable of processing that much data yet (this is why loot isn't respawning for example). You have to be patient with that kind of suggestions. And then, I personally think that there is no need for "rendering" bodies from other servers. It would be just fine to let all the corpses from current server stay and decay until it's restarted. Or maybe the server, just after restart, would download previous positions of bodies and put them there at the beginning. That way, each run of the server would have bodies from previous one with additional bodies, that are created during that specific run.

You must understand that some things are here for balance and/or for better game experience. Try to remember that feeling when you scavenge for hours, opening cans with just a hacksaw, spilling 50% of your food, and then, you happen to find that CAR OPENER. Finally...

Good ideas, realistic and, in my opinion (but what do I actually know...), easy to implement. I also like the idea of server hopping prevention. They could change that 5 minutes of penalty waiting to - for example - 10 minutes of invisible loot in a radius. But let's see how the current system will work out.
