That's some good advice, I do occasionally take breaks from the game. I mean, when I stopped playing last time it was for 3-4 months. Once tents become a thing I'm going to be looting everything though. :)

What Do You Want to See When you die?

Blurry vision, a quick fade to black, a nice graphic of "You are dead" rather than the simple text, and statistics of your journey. This is especially useful for people that live for a very long time and want a quick overview of their achievement and how well they did to survive DayZ.

How long do you wait if pinned down?

HC just forces everyone on a level playing field. 3PP can give a player the ability to automatically know what's on the other side of the wall just by being close to it. I guess if you were trying to figure out the best possible way to take out 5 guys this could potentially give you a tactical advantage. Metal Gear Solid is a great example of that. HC is First-Person Tactical while regular servers are often Third-Person Tactical. I don't think he was complaining about 3PP, just pointing out the advantages it has over playing on HC.

Yeah, it's so hard to believe that a person just likes to go looting. I'm really good at looting, I'm just happen to stay until all the loot is gone through. Sometimes it's smart just to leave after you have gotten what you can from the place, but I need to learn moderation. It'll make me survive longer. When servers get to the point where they are stable and have re-spawning loot to last 6 hours I might think about that. Yes, I enjoy finding my loot too, but some people are happy just to meet someone that's not going to pop them in the face. We say good luck to each other and off we go on our separate ways. This also gives me a chance for friendly encounters. It would suck if I went to Northwest or Balota, or one of the other military camps in the west then traveled all the way to Berezino and drop the gear for someone to find only to have the server restart a moment later. Once I give away my gear, I could care less about dying because I'll be better off than I was when I dropped it all. At least then I would have pants and a shirt. :)

Currently I do not know a way for that status to disappear, but it does so over time as long as you stay indoors out of the rain and out of water. Building a campfire requires sticks ( which you can cut logs into thirds for or find kindling in the woodlands by looking at the ground. ), rags, matches, and firewood which can be chopped from trees with axes. It's primary usefulness is for cooking meat anywhere and it does not (as of right now) clear up soaked and damped statuses, but having soaked or damped status plays no part on your health. Eventually we will get an update that changes that. You can drop a flare by removing it from your inventory and into the vicinity column, there is also a way to throw the flare as well. By pressing the "G" key.

I'm highly appreciative for the offer and I'll check out your Team Speak. I don't claim to be great at this game and I may be incompatible with your team and their play style, but it is definitely worth giving it a shot. Hit me up with a PM and I'll check it out tomorrow.

My eyesight is not that great so I wear glasses, but it's worse when playing at lower settings. This is how I would normally like to play the game. Sit on the outskirts of towns and airfields and monitor the area for an hour or two before making my move towards it. I've sat on a hill for 6 hours once just watching Northeast Airfield on a mildly populated server before I ever went in and then a thought occurred to me, "What if someone is doing the same?", but I highly doubt they had the patience to sit as long as I had as I not only scanned the airfield but the town, the tree lines, and everything inbetween. So, I went in, looted some stuff and retreated, making sure not to give away where I was heading back to only to keep spying on the airfield from afar.

That's really awesome. I hear people have survived for long periods of time, but more often than not it's usually on low pop servers, or they play very little of that character and play on another game type to avoid losing it. Not to say that you do all of this, but that is usually the case. So, congratulations on surviving as long as you have. I hope that you can continue to live. If for whatever reason you should die, you should post your obituary on the forums. :) It was only a guess, as that usually tends to be the case with most players. I have a lot respect for this kind of play style and so I'm really glad I was off. Thank you for informing me, apologies for the assuming you were like most lone-wolf types. Deception is one of the easiest forms of entertainment for these people. "Hey, I'm friendly." and seconds later when you turn your back, "You are dead." Killing on sight because you're scared is one thing, deceiving me is a whole other can of beans that I can't even begin to stomach and it happens so much. I'm a trusting person, so I guess that's what I get even though I should know better. As time has gone on though I've become more weary of other players and play it smarter, but I'm still a trusting person and it's in my nature.

Yeah, you're worse off than MatchboxChick, unfortunately. Let me guess, you get really nervous and the adrenaline starts pumping when you see another player which leads to the inevitable killing on sight that we are so fond of. The game is about taking risks occasionally to get the things you need, but everyone has their own way of playing the game, and I won't condemn you for sticking to your guns. Hopefully you'll meet some people that you can trust, if you even want to meet said people. :) You're welcome. Yeah, I think perhaps being scared to move and the unsettling feelings you get when you're alone was enough to call it a day. When I am alone I'm usually looking over my shoulder every chance I get only to sit in one spot a little way from airfields looking out through my LRS observing the actions of players to determine whether they are friendly or not. I happened to notice two guys who were looting completely different buildings, I approached one of them to ask if they were friendly and let him know there was one other person that I saw on the airfield. I took a chance and came in with my gun put away. Shortly after, the other guy was just around the building and shots were being fired. He frantically shouted that he was friendly and I told him to quickly get inside with his weapon put away. We waited in there for a while before finally getting into a TeamSpeak and played for roughly a month and a half until we stopped playing DayZ. I needed a break and I'm guessing so did they.

That's nice of you. So you managed to help her out or is she still in a bind? At least if it's not me I am glad someone is looking out for the new players. Way to go! :)

I didn't know it was a female that made the thread at first, I just clicked on it. I figured I could share my experience and give some advice. Whether or not the advice will help, that's entirely up to her. Some people are just frozen in place, unable to move. Some people find it enjoyable once it's gone they miss it and others just hate it. It seemed to me that she's afraid to do things on her own at the moment and wants to unload some of the stuff she's gathered without throwing it away. Regardless if they were male or female I would help in whatever way I could.

You're in Australia, right? My connection to any server would be pretty crap to say the least otherwise I would take some ammo, but if it would allow you to move forward I wouldn't mind trying. I suppose send me a PM of the server and your relative location or a location where you will be placing the ammo and I'll come pick it up. It'll help me out too since I just spawned.

Got geared up pretty well, high capacity vest, binos, Mosin with some attachments, food, canteens, plenty of ammo, a full map of Chernarus, a compass, medkit with saline etc. and I dropped it to a new spawn only to go collecting more gear again. When I met some bandits in Novo and told them that I had just given my stuff away to a new spawn and was looking for loot one of them says, "Who does that?" I respond with, "I do, because it's fun to find loot." They didn't believe me and insisted I had friends nearby, soon after I was dead. But they didn't get much because I gave it to someone who could use it more effectively. I find that I'm more frantic and on edge the more I gear up. Once the loot is gone I feel free. So try to be minimalistic. Carry only what you need to live and a way to defend yourself, preferably a handgun, as it makes you less of a target if you don't have a weapon on your back. You'll survive a little longer, but in cases where you meet people who just like to murder others for fun it doesn't matter how little geared you are, you'll get shot. Bandits are awesome and murderers make the game boring. But when they already have interaction with other players (their friends) they feel more inclined to kill everyone else because they feel safe within their group and now want excitement. Here's my tip. Get a person on one of the LFG (Looking For Group) forums, maybe make a post yourself about the type of person you want to team up with. Select one or multiple people and meet up with them. Use a chat client like TeamSpeak, Skype, Ventrilo, or any of the others. That way you feel safer knowing the person you trust, and only the person you trust can hear you. Loot, explore, enjoy life and when a fight breaks out fight for your team mate, not your gear. You'll feel better knowing you tried even if you happen to die. Meet up again, and enjoy the process all over again. :)
  16. Yeah, I just found that out an hour ago right before I ran into a guy who I told I was friendly before he told me to get on the ground. I said I would just put my stuff on the ground and his friend insisted on handcuffing me. (Really? You are going to cuff a guy who is willing to drop all his gear?) Never had bandits hold me up before, they said they would let me go but of course that wasn't true. As soon as his schizophrenic friend showed up he's saying "He has friends, he has friends." I said to them. "No, I didn't have friends on because I stopped playing DayZ for a while and I was just checking out the new town." But that didn't matter. They were so paranoid that nothing I said would matter, after which they killed me. They were never going to let me go anyway, they just found a convenient excuse to kill me because some other people were following them.
  17. People get so bored with the game that the only fun they have is when they deceive players and shoot them in the back. I'm guessing the only thing that'll prevent this from happening more will be persistent storage and more zombies. Once they have more things to do people will have less of a reason to be assholes. Still it's awesome that you got the drop on him and thanks for showing me something new. Didn't know you could climb up there. I'll probably put a fire up there. I've been going around trying find places to put fireplace kits. That looks like a great spot.
  18. Issue: Stuffed notification doesn't disappear after throwing up. Issue: Dropping weapons that were recently painted will sometimes disappear. (Or move, as someone else has said, but I've never refound my weapon after losing it like that.) Issue: Bodies disappear after log out. Issue: Ammo piles that were emptied from a box will lose ammunition when opening another box of the same ammo. Gamebreaking: Punched out 4 zombies without getting hit. R.I.P zomz!
