Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

I wonder if the problems aren't the characters. I actually had a character on experimental because I wanted to try it out. I also had a diff character on stable. When I switched back from exp to stable my exp character was there instead of my stable character. That didn't seem right to me. -
As someone who does have guns, a .22lr is a fine round to use on a person. In fact stats wise the .22lr kills more people every year than any other ammo, but mainly due to stupid people being stupid. If you can't kill a woodchuck with a .22 that's pretty bad. I'm not even sure what you're talking about with 9mm. 9mm are actually used by the U.S. military in the handguns. It was the .45 but not any longer. What people seem to be leaving out of this discussion is actually how the round expands once it hits it's target. .22lr will go straight through the target not applying much ft/lbs. Today ammo is jacketed hollow pointed because the ammo will smoosh or expand upon impact, knocking back and increasing the amount of damage done to the intended target. You can get .22lr jhp but i'm not sure how effective it is in comparison to just jacketed round nose or even lead round nose. In killing an infected zombie, who knows what kind of ability they have to withstand damage. On a normal person, a .22lr will kill them easily with a headshot at anything under 50yards. Hell up to 100 yards would, and it is the rare strange case when someone finds they still have a .22 lodged in their head.

Master List of Equipable Items the Community Wants in the Game

I also want to see layering of clothing. Not just to save space but also for survivability. Wearing a sweatshirt underneath a raincoat for instance. A t-shirt under or button up shirt under a jacket of some kind. Layering I believe is not only very realistic but also key to survival. -
Should we have a discussion about a suicide penalty?

I think it's really awesome that one can build up a characters skills over time. I wanted suggest something. Each person, as an adult, as a skillset they have already built up over time. What if each new spawn character was given a ranom skillset (not upgradeable), that gave them an instant access to certain advanced skills. -Mechanic (building cars and helicopters) -Medic/Doctor (can do more advanced medical applications) -Hunter/Trapper (can create traps for animals/people, build fires with 2 stones or 2 sticks and no matches, make bow/arrows from sticks and rope and a knife, etc....) -Seamstress (can fix any and all clothing with sewing kit) -Gunsmith (guns should be found mostly badly damaged/ruined and he can repair them) -Architect (can create structures) [not sure about this one]

Pending Changelog: Experimental branch: 0.34.XXXXX
discipled replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I think they sneak things on and we don't notice most the time. The other day I actually found a frying pan on the SA. Makes me wonder what we miss. I swear there are times the map is changed without our knowledge. Like there are more streams at higher elevations, which I thought couldn't be done yet because water could only be done at sea level. -

We have raincoats, this feels redundant. -
Water purification tactic -Using coffee filters

There is no need yet. They will be implimenting getting sick off of dirty water, like drinking straight from a pond or stream. In the future they could get you sick which gives the water purification tabs more value to add to a canteen of pond water. -
I want to open a discussion on the blur that happens from recieving too much shock damage. I at first thought the blur was a bug then after watching Merino's health vids, excellent vids by the way, very excellent, I discovered that based off how healthy you are you could recieve too much "shock" damage which could cause you to black out. Say you are surrounded by too many zombies attacking you and you're heavily armored. While your ballistic or construction helmet are saving you from bleeding and your clothing and items are taking a heavy beating you're also recieving shock damage. If you're "health" is low, even if your blood level is high, you could get knocked out and then the zombies will tear you to pieces. Why I started this was because I don't think a general blur is very readable and understandable to the average player. The blur is super annoying and will go away after you have fully healed. I love the idea of the shock damage but I want a more readable indicator. I would like to see ideas. Usually in other games this "shock" damage is indicated by the character waving back and forth, the image is not just blurred by also waving or make the room look like it's "spinning" as in real life. I don't know to what degree this is/will be implimented but the current general blur is not, imo, a very good indicator of dizziness or generalized head damage. Maybe we could get text indicators too saying something like "i feel woozy" or "The room is starting to spin" or something. Thoughts? p.s. there is a bug where when things are blurry because of the shock damage you can press esc, got to config and then push the video button and the blur goes away, which originally led me to believe the blur was itself a bug.

I personally don't really want this as an option in DayZ. My reason is, in a real life survival situation i'm more worried about bacteria like giahrdia or krepto in the water than pieces of grass. It's the bacteria that will harm you more than ingesting maybe some dirt. -
OMG! You have my thanks soldier! Not only is your life in jeopardy for out freedom but you have had to resort to not just drinking the horse crap that is foldgers but eat the insta-crystals dry! You, my friend, are a true man.

Amen to that brother/sister/person.

I'd be disappointed if we'll be allowed to make a fire outside in the rain. Shelter would be necessary to keep the fire from getting doused. Rocket said they will be making fire places useful, now that would be awesome, and dangerous. Think about starting a fire in a fireplace but it causing smoke from the roof where people will be able to see it and come. Bandits will certainly take advantage of that.

Agreed. We already have alcohol tinctures. I don't see why, combined with a rag and then with matchs, can't make molotov's.

I don't really believe arguing the semantics of whether it is or isn't an exploit are really productive. I am glad that they did change it though, felt really off to do that to make travel the most efficient. Atleast now, as someone pointed out, I won't have to worry about that awkward moment of my fireman axe being in front of my face hacking to my right while a zomb munches on my face.

Not just you. It happens to me too.

You can add your own marks onto the map and notes to each mark. you can zoom in for proper placement. I like the minimal style the game has now. A compass, findable maps (frequency of drop may need adjusted and/or locations of drops outside of gas stations but they should be a highly valued item so very rare). It's a survival game and I love having to use actual survival skills like the sun and compass and a simple map.

True, there are dozens of water pumps, but when they increase the zombie numbers by like 5 fold in towns and cities, water pumps will be far harder to get to, while rain will be an easy clean source of water. Pond and stream water could get you sick, pumps will be surrounded by the undead, rainwater is collectable in the woods and would be safe to drink. Balancing really needs to be minimal til we get a greater number of zombies. We may think that resources to survive are quite numerous, especially on servers with few players, but when the servers have 60-100 players and 5000-10000 zombies resources will be harder to find/get to inside towns/cities when freshly spawned and big cities should only be attempted with m4's and in a group.

They just added alcohol tincture to disinfect wounds, which may become an issue. I would like to suggest we add nature remedies so we don't have to just rely on alcohol tincture. Lye is a natural substance found in hard woods. If we collect ash from after a bonfire from firewood we can add water to our cooking pots, boil it down, and use it as a poultice on clothes to cover wounds. Pine sap also can be used to cover, close and disinfect wounds as well. If we hack a pine tree, it's sap can be used as a natural disinfecting bandage. Actually, chewing pine needles is a way to get some vitamin C as a side note. Boiling water is another way to disinfect it. So taking water from ponds and streams and putting it into our cooking pot over fire is an excellent way to disinfect it also. Since we have a gun cleaning kit, we need to add something like steel wool. it can be used to clean up our cooking pots/repair, plus if you attach for a second a 9v battery you can use it to create fire too but it slightly damages the steel wool. Going along with the berries they added, Mushrooms are a natural source of minerals and vitamins in the woods, but many are deadly, while some are perfectly edible. -

I think that adding 5-6x more zombies will cure this ill. Either it will deplete their ammo, or force players to band together because of the shear massive numbers of zombies. But several points, they will add many more items, and survival interactions, hopefully make weather more an important part of this game where you'll need to store different types of clothing to deal with cold/rain/heat etc which will take up slots used for ammo or multiple weapons currently, plus there are so many homes that have rooms that don't open yet and buildings that don't have loot spawns. When zombies become a far far greater threat surviving will be the main goal and many more people will band together to take out the masses of zombies to get to needed loot. If they just add 5x the number of zombies in major cities like cherno or beren or even electro they'll have over 100 zombies and gun shots will and do attract those numbers and hopefully at that point they will be able to travel up steps so going up stairs isn't a good option. -
FPS DROPS LAST PATCH - MORE INFORMATION (SPAM TO DEVS)

For me had to replace my ballistic helmet, shoes, pants, shirt and I noticed by Blue Mountain Backpack flickering... dropped it and ran aways, once i got so far, my FPS shot right back up to perfect, ran back to get my stuff and fps dropped too poor again. That's my fix. Oh and I dropped my acog scope on my m4 but for sure my backpack caused me issues. I have read if you get near someone with buggy equipment it will effect you also. I believe people have narrowed it down the items and textures being bad or something. -

Same for me, tried tweaking my graphics settings, but game starts running beautifully, then over several minutes stuttering and jittering gets worse and worse til it just pauses/crashes. have to ctrl+alt+dlt and then restart computer.
