Just invited a few friends to come play with me the last few days.

The game just isn't for some people. The first few players I encountered in DayZ I wound up becoming good friends with, and we game on something almost every night. We've run into plenty of friendly players, and other players who were just looking for trouble. We systematically took out some sniper bandits in Cherno who were trying to keep the city locked down. Other times we've run into new spawns who were in need, we helped out, and they went on their way. Just gotta risk it and find those who like finding loot over and over again. -
Storm frequency is like the tropics, and the duration is like England. I think they should put umbrellas in the game, usable with one hand so you can hold a pistol in the other. Sure, you could still kill people, but you'd feel a little awkward about it knowing you had a kitty print umbrella over your head.

They said that attacking with your weapon lowered is a known issue. You have to hit space and raise it to attack position to use it.

Are you scared of the dark? Check out my new Triller Series "Traversing Darkness"

I look forward to when DayZ at night MUST be played like this. -
There's currently a lot of bugs with slopes and invisible walls. Usually if I'm prone on a slope I'll shoot dirt no matter where I aim, and occasionally if I'm crouching. It's one of the more annoying bugs at the moment.

I was told everyone will kill you ...wrong !

My team and I were running down the east coast the other day on a moderately populated server. We were, admittedly, looking for fresh spawns to either toy with or help out (we're not sadistic bastards, but it is a little fun to give people a fright, but not murder them). We stopped one guy, and while we were talking we noticed a small horde of people running up the coast. We told the bambi to book it, and a few minutes later 8 mostly geared players ran up on us. Instead of starting a massive firefight we started talking to them. A minute later we parted ways, neither of us wanting to cause trouble except against bandits, and everyone lived! None of us were expecting to survive an encounter with such a large group. -
Concretely: what differs the pro from the noob?

On one of my lives I had to run through 5 or 6 towns, large and small, on a low population server to find enough food and equipment to survive. I was literally starving when my luck turned and I found a can opener and a few cans of sardines in one building. I have never felt so powerful as when I found that can opener. -
I was overwatch for our last lives. While my friends looted, I was up on a hill keeping tabs of everything around. I was well hidden while doing it, so the two guys who came up near me had no idea I was there. I only saw one at the time, and he had an M4 taking pot shots at the guys looting a little distance away. They only got grazed and took cover. I spotted the shooter, a well armed and geared guy, and nailed him in the face with a sniper shot. I was a bit foolish and let myself get exposed, so the second guy I didn't see emptied a mag into me. Meanwhile my friends in town got jumpy, startled each other, and blew each other away....

Impossible to be "Friendly" in this game. Resorted to Banditry.
Knifeguy replied to MyPassword is Chickens20's topic in New Player Discussion
My few encounters have been generally friendly, aside from that one guy I picked off for funsies. One guy I encountered outside of Elektro. We had a brief close quarters standoff, both armed, and came to the conclusion that we were both friendly. Guns out but lowered we made contact. He asked if I needed any supplies, I told him I was good (he was very well geared, and I was relatively fresh with a magnum and 5 bullets). He did, however, need directions. I told him how to get there, and we parted ways with no shots fired. Either of us could have easily offed the other one. I had more to gain, but I don't like being cold blooded. -
What's the best DayZ glitch you have come across?

I was running up the stairs in a school, and when I went around and up to the third floor aiming for the room with the weapon, I suddenly found myself on the 2nd floor again. I had to stop and think for a moment, since I didn't see anything happen. Was I imagining things? Did I actually go up three floor, or just two? -
Every time I find a box of ammo for the SKS I think I've found a box of Teddygraham cookies.

"Curses, I've broken my leg! I have no sticks to build a splint, and no morphine to magically mend my shattered bones. All I have are these bandages, this sharp axe, and a forest full of sticks and wood.... I guess I'll crawl two kilometers to the next town and hope there are the right sticks somewhere in there."

This wasn't in Elektro, was it? I freaked someone out a few days ago there at night, snuck up on them while they were looting a building, and just waited. When they came out they saw me, ran around a corner, and combat logged. I think whoever that was got themselves killed by a zed because combat logging doesn't work like it used to.... Best part is I didn't make any threatening moves, and I asked over chat "Hey, how's it goin?"

DayZ, the nature documentary: Now here we have the Red Tailed Hawk, a top notch predator! With exceptionally keen eyesight and a fast top speed she can spot small prey on the ground far below her and rocket down to snatch it up. She's even been known to catch other birds out of the air. And listen! We can hear her majestic cries.... "BWAARARLG!"

I always here noises that tend to be cut off. Soda cans, loose ammo, zombies when none are around (damn rabbits). Even when I'm entirely alone on a server I'll still hear those noises. If you hear a second soda can right after the first, then there IS someone nearby.

I felt guilty about my first (and only) kill, mostly because it was unwarranted and a reaction out of a brief power trip. Poor guy had no idea I was even there. But I got over it. I DID feel justified about shooting at my second target, since he was looking in my direction with a Mosin. I wound up just scaring the pants off of him and we worked it out with words after that.

Your character eats and drinks like a race horse, BUT NEVER GOES TO THE BATHROOM! I think the 'realism' comes in the form of fearing death, injury, and lack of resources. Falling from a moderate height could 'realistically' break or shatter ankle or leg bones. Depending on the severity of the break you could still potentially use said leg to a certain extent. If it was REALLY bad you would just fall unconscious. Since a shot of morphine will cure a broken leg, all I can picture now is someone loaded on drugs running around with a leg flopping around at odd angles. Realism is sort of a relative term when it comes to gaming. A Real Life simulator would be the most horrible thing ever.

I would be okay with weapons that could be put together using basic items. If you can make it work by scavenging a few bullets, adding some household liquids, and some duct tape, then I think that would be acceptable. Presumably the fall of civilization happened within 5 years in the game (canned sardines say they expire after 5 years, and they are still edible). In a few years, in a country that has gone through hell a few times, I don't think it would be unreasonable that most military grade weapons would be damaged, ruined, stolen, lost, buried, destroyed, or inaccessible. Being able to do major repairs or modifications would require a shop with power, which would mean tapping into what was left of the grid that runs the street lights. So pretty much I'm ok with small IED's, the exceedingly rare RPG, and LMG type weapons. Artillery and high explosives - no.

I only feel a little guilty about mine. I got decked out in gear and went looking for some player interaction. I tend to be more reclusive and non-confrontational, and when I do find someone I'm much more likely to ask if they need any supplies. So when I went looking for some fun I actually had a lot of trouble finding anyone. I went on a populated server and ran from Kamenka to Elektro. I found no one! I logged out for a little while outside of Elektro and later hopped on a less populated night server to meet up with a friend. There were two other people besides us. I turn around to look over Elektro only to find someone standing full sail on top of the northern fire station. I got so excited that I had spotted someone that I immediately took aim with my Mosin and blew his head off. He hadn't even done anything to provoke me and I doubt he had a gun, I just saw such a phenomenal target that I couldn't help myself. I'll be slightly less trigger happy in the future I think.

My first encounter happened when I was running around at night with a flashlight, looting empty buildings, and having no idea what the controls were. I started to run down the road and suddenly there was this guy in a creepy mask in front of me. I jumped at the sudden contact of another person. I had no idea how to communicate at all, so I attempted to make that clear by shaking back and forth. He figured out that I had no clue what I was doing and told me how to respond. I told him that I was just starting and had no idea what I was doing. Fortunately he was nice and led me to a watering hole. Only after a few minutes did I realize that there were actually two of them, one keeping his sights on me from the woods. They offered to let me tag along with them, so off we went. We play together frequently, and now we run around messing with, but not tormenting, bambis. I generally avoid confrontation, though.

They should put in the Klobb, just to make you appreciate your kitchen knife that much more.
