I don't really see how the sa is not a downgrade from the mod. For all of the improvements there are more things that are either broken or missing. Given that they postponed the sa for so long, this is what they gave us? Rocket leaving for Everest said everything about the development IMO. Half assed. I'm a big dayz fan so I'm going to give it 6 months for Bohemia to fix this rambling mess of a game and check in again then

dayz's music is what helped create the atmosphere to begin with tbh to a new player dayz is not much of a zombie thriller or very immersive. I dont see dayz being as interesting as it was to new players without it. im guessing most die hard fans have heard the mod's music. that was part of the reason i got hooked, kept my heart racing. So even if you turned it off at some point it helped form the atmosphere of the game. its a shame they took it out.

My very inglorious death
Human Hunter replied to Gandalf the White (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
they need to fix item damage theres no way thats anything close to realistic -
Its not the Rain, there is a massive Memory Leak.
Human Hunter replied to blissfulkunt's topic in General Discussion
there were people stuck being dead before this latest patch triage -
calling something an alpha is a great marketing tool lets you get away with a half assed product
-
an exploit hahaha? thats like saying a guy who turns up his volume so he can hear you better is exploiting
-
no kidding not to mention this "alpha" got pushed back an extra 7+ months or so and it ends up being worse than the mod. I still can't really wrap my head around it. given the popularity of dayz you would think they would put in a professional effort. ive lost two fully geared out characters so far to random bugs. and all i was doing at the time was getting them into a decent spot for when they patch in some of the stuff thats missing from the mod. right now there isnt really a reason to play at all.

POLL Should The Timeout Timer be Increased, Untouched, Reduced or Removed?
Human Hunter replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
not cool to have a timeout after getting randomly kicked or dcing from the server theres gotta be a better way of stopping server hopping for loot -
The original dayz music from the mod

After having played the mod for a year or so, I recently purchased the standalone. I enjoyed all of the improvements but one thing that really struck me as odd and annoying is the removal of the ambient music in dayz. I seriously cannot understand why it was removed because it feels like part of dayz's soul is missing. It doesn't feel like the same game and honestly makes me not want to play it. right now in the standalone all i hear is random sounds that seemingly come from nowhere. If music was removed for realisms sake i honestly think that is a poor design decision. There is no way to get this game real enough to forget that you are still playing a game. Without ambient music the mood of the game changes from being a heart pounding thriller to a boring running simulator. and if you aren't a fan of the music, you can turn it off in the audio settings. I dont see why its gone. all it does is trade suspense for boring.

its not unrealistic to have scattered clumps of armed forces. not to mention there is little info about the dayz universe. hell, could be that the airdrops are old and just sitting out in the fields, surrounded by zeds. they dont have to be fresh.
-
man, you need to work on your ocd and your logic skills dayz is dayz so its an issue of money?

cool idea kinda like helicopter crashes, just as realistic but more valuable

In-game sound needs to be re-worked
Human Hunter replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
its random though, not like there was anyone around you i would say sound in the dayz standalone is the feature that could use the most improvement -
this doesnt seem to be something that is limited by development constraints its a design decision they made to remove the music (or atleast that is what i have been reading). they fiddled with something that wasn't broken and made a huge problem for the game. im a huge dayz fan and this irritates me to no end. if a player truly wanted more realism they could turn the music off in the settings. removing dayz's soundtrack only takes away from the game.

What will make you play the alpha again?
Human Hunter replied to Igglas Cage's topic in General Discussion
1. dayz mod music put back in 2. zombies fixed 3. hunting 4. vehicles 5. bases/fortification/loot storage -
if you haven't played the mod you should check it out. removing music is going to cost them huge long term
-
yea :( this is just a really bad move on their part. dayz is not dayz without the music. how are new players supposed to feel immersed in a zombie thriller without feeling scared shitless? if you've played the mod im sure you've felt the difference. not the same game and thats not a good thing
-
DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
Human Hunter replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
i dont see how any new player can get hooked on this game without having a heart pounding experience while immersed. without dayz's classic horror music to set the mood its just boring for someone who isn't already attached to the game. I cannot understand why they took it out, they fiddled with something fundamentally important and broke it. this is a very very bad design decision, please ask them to bring back dayz's ambient music -
does anyone know why? new players are not going to get attached to this game without first being immersed in a zombie thriller. you need music to do that there is no way around it.
-
I really like this game and have high hopes for it, so I am a bit tired of amateur hour with rocket's team. Their handling of the development of Dayz has been painfully disappointing. this is just a fundamentally bad decision that is going to cost them in the long term. This game will produce less realism and immersion without music. thats just the nature of video games.
-
http://tindeck.com/dl/kalc on repeat will have to do for now. I say play the standalone without it, and then immediately play it with the music on. compare how you feel while playing for 10m or so
-
they are separate products but the game is the same. well, the standalone is actually a huge downgrade. I honestly think that removing dayz's music was a boneheaded decision, that will end up making a lot of people who played the mod not enjoy it as much. I may not even play it until they fix things up more.

this is a video game it will never ever be real, it needs some extra kick to produce suspense/terror just like all forms of visual entertainment. aka it needs music. There is literally no downside to putting in the old music. you can always turn it off... they already have the music from the mod.
