Why DayZ is no survival game

So you ignore my entire post and go on a rant about gear. In a topic which you started stating that DayZ is not about survival, you have just written a post about how DayZ is about survival. Also in DayZ you do use your gear to keep you alive, much like real life. Boring endgame is your personal opinion. You are entitled to that. What is the reward, progress and point to real life survival compared to DayZ ? You want people to act a certain way, well newsflash buddy, its not always about what you want. Your last paragraph seems to be badly written and I cannot understand what its intentions are. Now many people do have a great fear of death in DayZ already, if you care to check some of the community media. So what is your idea for a skill system ?

    Bad community

There are places where firing a gun is illegal. So by your logic people who use firearms are less intelligent than those who do not? In those places. Yes. Quote You are purposefully obfuscating the discussion in order to prove a point that is beside the actual thrust of your claim. Cursing is not, by definition, derogatory nor does it necessarily put people's ideas down. I can say, for example, that "That's a fucking brilliant idea!" Or "I fucking love this idea so much." If I tell my wife "Seeing you in those yoga pants makes me want to fuck you cross-eyed" do you think she's going to feel "put down" by that? Because I can tell you from experience that she absolutely does not. I said "Many", not the full definition, and then you obfuscate that whole point. Quote Again, you are the one talking about putting people's ideas down. That's not what we're discussing. As for "offending" people, I refer you back to the original video. People who are offended by swearing are just looking for a reason to be upset about something. It's fucking pointless. Thats great that you or Stephen can read minds. Again here you have used it in the derogartory manner. Now to add to my ideas about swearing. In many professional places swearing is indeed grounds for dismissal, it is also grounds for disciplinary action in places of education. Many public places will ask you to leave. There is evidence that it is widely viewed to be unnacceptable and people should learn to construe their ideas in a more acceptable manner.

Umm no thanks. It would be better if the person who made the statement simply told us where he got the info from.

Why DayZ is no survival game

This example "And the other thing is, if someone survived for 500 hours, hasn't he deserved a really good boost?" I will not provide you with evidence for your statement that people vote against skills because of how they view them. That is up to you to backup what you say. On the topic of beans you could argue that a person is more inclinded to give beans to an OP then any of the replies. You could even just have a load of friends give you beans. I really have no idea, but 18 beans does not win a game of "what the community thinks" last time I checked there was roughly 20,000 people in the game. The most basic element of real life survival is not aquiring skills. There are 3, Shelter, Water, Food. So what is your idea for a skill system ?

Well if you take one persons word for anything then you will surely be heading down the wrong path. Now swearing is illegal in many places. This in itself makes it unintelligent to use in those places. Also many swear words are in fact derogatory, this means that instead of thinking of a suggestion to improve something or provide constructive critiscism, you just decide to put it down. Again this is unintelligent as it does not benefit anyone. One of he main reasons that humans evolved to be top of the food chain is the ability to communicate. Now offending people and putting down their ideas does not promote discussion, therefore limiting the progression of the human race. Im sorry you cannot understand this.

Stahp Rocket! You're ruining teh Alpha!

May I point out that you cannot ruin and Alpha. If you have to report some bugs or have some suggestions then there are proper procedures for doing so. WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

You made quite a point of bolding "not" and italics for "never". The fact that someone could possibly decide to shoot in a random direction, makes your statement false. I see you laugh at this. If you require more scenarios to disprove your adamant statement then I will surely oblige.

Why DayZ is no survival game

Loot should not be removed because it is a natural thing to find things and make use of them, this applys to real life as well. "Skills: This is the only way to go in my opinion. The more you do something, the better you get in it. The more you craft things, the more chance you have to craft prestine things. The more you treat wounds, the less likely it is that you make a mistake while doing it. The more you repair engines, the more likely you are to repair a helicopter. etc. Problem with this is, you have to balance it. We don't want immortal super soldiers, but the additions have to be good enough to add a real value to the character. It has to be more valuable than a really rare weapon. Doing something faster is not enough, because people don't really need that. They will still risk their lifes and do stupid things, I mean who cares if something is taking you 10 seconds or 9? And the other thing is, if someone survived for 500 hours, hasn't he deserved a really good boost? I would give such a person the ability to shoot like a robot. Problem I am talking about is that the more your survive the better has to be the reward. If you survived 100 hours or 500 hours you want to feel the difference, otherwise it gets pointless and boring to survive longer." Your example could well make sitting afk in the woods a viable option to level up. I dont agree with this, it would detract from the whole point of the game as it has evolved to now. Now if you want to find out the communitys view on skills, then perhaps you could do some research. There have been many topics on the subject. My view on skills, as commonly used in games, is that the action of gaining a skill soon becomes the point of the game. Some people would simply be using the game as a tool to gain skills.

No I meant the content was nice. The fact that you think the content is flawed is your opinion, not a fact.

    GPS

I do agree, GPS would be nice. However, there is also joy to be taken from learning things the old fashioned way.
  13. Yes, well if you had intended to mean morals, then you should have not written justifiable. As you can probably tell it is quite confusing. Also I might point out that the reason for someone killing another person does not make it game-ruining or not. That would be more the actual action of killing someone. You may appear to see people constantly complaining about KoS, when in fact I suggest that you see a lot of threads about it. While if you happened to look inside those threads, there are far more people telling them to shutup and deal with it. Also could you point out the part where I was hostile? I disagree with your last point also, I have not tried to defend KoS, I have simply suggested that your OP may be lacking in certain areas, while giving a few examples that came to mind.

Why DayZ is no survival game

"Skyline-GTR, on 02 Feb 2014 - 4:31 PM, said: You have posted 5 examples of life in DayZ. At any one time there could be roughly 20,000 players, they are all different and all have different likes and dislikes. So im not sure if 5 is a great number of situations to base changing the game for. Your solutions seem interesting but I dont think all of them they are best placed in this game. Statistics: I have seen this come up before and I suggest that once you add things like this in the game, it no longer becomes about playing the game, it becomes a tool for raising statistics. Appearance change over time: I do like this option, with things like beard and hair growth, clothes become dirty and worn etc. Skills progression: I would prefer if this was not added to the game. I could talk more about why if you are interested, but it would require a lot of typing. So I just refer you to my previous post on this thread for now." "Guess what? The community actually appreciates the idea of character progression. It's not me who is thinking as an minority, it's you. (in terms of community)" http://forums.dayzga...er-progression/ Yeah dude i think you made an error here. As you can see, I was in an agreement about character progression in terms of looks.

The Unfortunate Tale of the Dumb Bandit

Well it stared off as a friendly discussion until you decided that because I had only been here 4 days that you were somehow superior to me. On top of that you then decide to lie about my post content. So to say that I have been criticising you is another lie. The only reason for me posting here was to gain a better understanding of what actually happened, because the thread title suggests something that was contradicted in the OP. Seriously tho, If you are going to lie, at least do it somewhere that does not record everything said e.g. internet forum.

The Unfortunate Tale of the Dumb Bandit

"The axe-wielding bandit then charged RayRay, knocked him unconscious, and i could only watch helplessly as i was in the middle of bandaging. He then killed me as well." "the next my friend called out that he was dead, and then i died without ever seeing the guy appear in front of me." not sure if this adds up...
  19. What argument of mine relates to a percentage of the players being psychotic murderers ? Also I did not argue about "correct roleplaying", my point is that there is not correct way, and you are free to roleplay any role you wish to imagine. Your OP made no mention of morals in a non-roleplay sense. You say some people play like "rude word" well that is simply your opinion mate and many dont share that. If the purpose of your post was to try and get people to understand and accept KoS, then why do you argue against some very good reasons that people do it for ? If you want to put forward an argument about justifyable actions in a roleplaying scenario, then you must consider all roleplaying options. If you change your mind now, and want to argue about justifyable actions in a game, then paying your money justifys any action that adheres to the rules.

The Unfortunate Tale of the Dumb Bandit

There was a scenario a few days ago when someone had met a person and followe them around. He lost sight of this person, found them in a church, he knew it was the same person because he had the same clothes and gear. Turns out it was an imposter that had stolen all the stuffs.
  23. That was only one scenario... here is a few more for your digest. Ruler of the world: All those who oppose me shall die. Humans are a virus: All humans must die, he kills everyone and then ends his own life. Religious fanatic: Starts his own religion, commandments include only the god can live a life, he proclaims himself god and then kills everyone. I could go on if you wish ?
  24. So when you say morally justifiable, you actually mean morally justifiable in a roleplaying sense ? This would suggest that roleplaying a psychopathic killer is simply no longer an option ?
  25. Whilst surviving a Zombie apocalypse would have its own mental implications. I cannot agree with any of these topics, simply because.... Well here is a cut and paste answer I used to reply to one topic initially but they kept coming up so I repeat it "The fact is, no system is perfect. Especially with computers. It is far to easy for them to interrpret one action or a series of actions as "definition A", when it could in fact be "definition B". No compuer can in fact read a persons "intent", it relys on actions only and when the actions of different intents can easily be very similar or even the same, then you can maybe see the issue here." So you can see that no matter how good you think your idea is, if it is based on the human mental aspect, then it is inherently flawed as a computer cannot comprehend the mental state of a human. A computer reacts to input alone and I would suggest that any input that gives a certain "buff" or "debuff", can easily be manipulated.
