EA has a system that trys to do this. Its called "Gameface" Its by no means perfect and in my experience the outcome is not lifelike.

To be fair, I think OP has a valid point. At least in my experience... Servers are quite delicate and by that I mean they are having issues. My internet is fibre optic and very stable, I never have any disconnects on my end. Now he seems to be suggesting that before you implement a system to punish disconnection, it may have been more fair to stabalise the servers. Not asking you to agree or disagree, but I hope you can see its a reasonable point to be making.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
skyline-gtr replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
thanks for the insult dude... So, right now there are no bandits. A bandit is an outlaw, this is defined term. With no law system in place, there can be no bandits. Adding an armband into the game does not add the ability to be a hero. It would give a player an armband for completing a series of actions. This can be easily exploited. -
Give 2 choices for logout timer: "wait" and "exit now"
skyline-gtr replied to knar33's topic in Suggestions
I think I may be able to offer some light on the confusion but I am by no means an expert in programming. So at a guess... When you are in game you are communicating with the server. When you initiate the logout process you are now communicating with the main hive server. So in order to see what is happening during the logout process, the main hive server, which is responsible for login logout data, is now under pressure to display the entire world for 30 seconds. -
Are these ideas too graphic for the game?

was intended as a bit of fun comment -
I do see a problem with your poll tho. It is so vague... I can take a wild guess that you will get a Yes vote, given that greed is human nature. The question could be anything, with the poll being do you want reward or no, you would still get a yes vote in most cases.

Basically, I think you are taking your own personal experience with the game too far. Perhaps do some reading of other peoples experience, look at some youtube vids etc. I might also remind you that the game is still in alpha, so they probably do intent to add more survival elements into it.

If you find it boring, it doesnt mean everyone does. Also I know alot of people who do not go around shooting the place up. It is totally up to the player to decide what to do in this survival situation. The same as real life, people have choices. Again your opinion that playing as a survivor is boring. The game was intended to be fun, using survival as the theme. The point of surviving is to live for as long as possible just like in real life. There is no force to make you kill other players. This game is certainly no deathmatch. Everyone does not go around killing each other. Again your post is so full of logical jumps man. I tried to explain some of them but your second paragraph was far from clear and consice so it was difficult to make out what you meant really.

I like the concept behind this idea, however it may be difficult to implement and also might not be so user friendly.

wow thats great, people hiding in houses from the zombie hordes hmm so to attack could mean certain death. a distraction is a possibility maybe better to find a gun or something, trouble is as far as my knowledge of zombies goes, they do tend to bust into houses quite quickly.
-
hmmm deathmatching in your DayZ sense means shooting each other for fun. Ill tell you what. If you can, Sum up your issue, keep it clear and concise, and we can move on from there.

Premium loot -- A balanced proposal to "gearing up"
skyline-gtr replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
So what is your actual problem then ? Gearing up is too fast ?? A geared up character is bored ?? PVP ?? -
Oh I was asking drugarunda what he meant by it.

You might be a Hero with an armband that shows your hero status, that has spent hours in a corner boosting for skills, surrender may be the only option. -

Horses thing may be a little tough to implement, but the rocks thing is fine I would imagine. -
Premium loot -- A balanced proposal to "gearing up"
skyline-gtr replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
"There's a serious problem with DayZ, and you know of what I speak: the pilgrimage to the airport. You go there, get "geared up," and -- TADA! --- you're at the end-game. Oh no, Airfield already looted? Time to server hop onto a mostly-empty server. Once you get your M4, then it's only a matter of pimping out your gun with shiny attachments. At this point, the game begins to lose its charm. Out of boredom, and on the top of the food chain, it's only natural that these people will either stop playing -- or go around and KOS anybody they find. Once you find a can-opener and an M4, the game slowly devolves into PvP. We need to slow down gearing up so that it's not solved by a single trip to the airport-mecca." Now there is a problem with your analysis, if i may.... You claim the only way to play is to go to airport and gear up. False You then claim that anyone who has sufficient gear is now bored. False You then suggest that, some people actually do not go to the airport. Contradiction. -
Direct trade, is a great idea imo However, allowing the other player to see your inventory is definetly not. It would make a "trader role/style" of play very difficult indeed. As most traders do their work based on trading up. example someone offer an item in exchange for your "best gun", a smart trader offers a pistol, claiming its the best he has, meanwhile he has a stock of assault rifles. You can see how showing your inventory in a trade, makes this not work at all. That is just one example, I could probably think of more. As for the bag in hand animation thing, mmm I need more time to think about that.

I think when there are more zombies and loot respawn system, then this problem which you attempt to solve will not be a problem. -

skyline-gtr replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
yeah well bandits actual generally are hidden, underworld sort of thing. Heros are more exposed, take centre stage etc edit: i dont know why this topic even exists because the beauty of this game is you are free to do anything, take any role etc to take only 2 roles, define them, give them outfits, is basically racists against all the other styles/roles -

Why should they get a tangible reward? like i said the only reward a hero should get is a sense of wellbeing. there does not need to be balance between hero and bandit because they are not complete opposites. there are many other ways to play the game, should they all be in balance ? Its not 100% in favour of bandits. that is a narrow minded point of view. bandits gain loot, heros kill bandits, heros gain loot, bandits kill hero, bandits gain loot. it is a cycle. -
I would argue that while it is possible to kill someone, that it is not forced upon the player.
-
hmm drugarunda your whole post seems to rest on the basis that after gearing up you are only left with a deathmatch. Definition of deathmatch: The goal of a deathmatch game is to kill (or "frag", from the military term) as many other players as possible until a certain condition or limit is reached, commonly being a frag limit or time limit. Once one of these conditions is met, the match is over and the winner is the player that accumulated the greatest number of frags. You may not be using it in this sense of the word, so if you could explain what you mean when you say deathmatch, it might aid in the understanding of the concepts you suggest to "fix" that.

Wayze, you are being completely unreasonable, you avoid, ignore most thing that disagrees with you.On the off chance you do reply, you make stuff up, and generally make a mockery of real discussion. You twist words, pull half quotes, ignoring their source quote etc etc
