So this is a game in which you are given very little to start off with. You are thirsty and very soon you will also be hungry. If you do not find some water and food soon you are going to die. So far we can see that the element of survival is high. This continues throughout the entirety of the time you spend in game. If you do not find or have access to food and water constantly you are going to die. Any social interactions are entirely dictated by the people involved in those and have no bearing on the essence of the game. The core of the game is survival, therefore "Survival game" You may roleplay or teamup, infact they are little to no boundaries stopping you doing anything you want to do. But sooner or later you are going to have to submit to the most basic of human needs to survive.

"DayZ is at its best when everyone playing it has bought into the survivalist fantasy" This, if you did not know is an opinion and the basis of the portion of that article which you posted. He then goes on to say that the game needs re-balanced to enforce how he thinks the game is at its best. Pretty poor article if you can see the reality.

More consequences of your actions? (Like or dislike in the polls)
skyline-gtr replied to Ljungen81's topic in Suggestions
I enjoy the option to be whatever I want, whenever I want. I feel no need to be shoehorned into someone else idea of what a bandit, hero, KoSer is, by some of my previous actions. The fact is, no system is perfect. Especially with computers. It is far to easy for them to interrpret one action or a series of actions as "definition A", when it could in fact be "definition B". No compuer can in fact read a persons "intent", it relys on actions only and when the actions of different intents can easily be very similar or even the same, then you can maybe see the issue here. -
Would you like to expand on your thoughts so as to promote discussion ? As I see it, currently in DayZ there is no destination and the journey is the only thing. As I mostly enjoy the journey more then the destination then I do enjoy this aspect of it, and it is a large part of the reason that I put my money up in an attempt to help this game be what it can.

I agree with most of that and I feel that a large percentage of the threads in here would server better prupose if slightly re-worded and posted in the suggestions forums.

Im not sure you understand the point of surviving. The point to surviving means staying alive. Translate this to DayZ, it remains the same.

You have posted 5 examples of life in DayZ. At any one time there could be roughly 20,000 players, they are all different and all have different likes and dislikes. So im not sure if 5 is a great number of situations to base changing the game for. Your solutions seem interesting but I dont think all of them they are best placed in this game. Statistics: I have seen this come up before and I suggest that once you add things like this in the game, it no longer becomes about playing the game, it becomes a tool for raising statistics. Appearance change over time: I do like this option, with things like beard and hair growth, clothes become dirty and worn etc. Skills progression: I would prefer if this was not added to the game. I could talk more about why if you are interested, but it would require a lot of typing. So I just refer you to my previous post on this thread for now.

Not sure if I have this correct but your main gripe seems to be that you can respawn ? Let me say that I do consider DayZ to be a survival game. Maybe my ignorance but I have yet to see a game which has more survival aspects then this. If we took out respawning, it would solve the issue which i think you have but not in the way you intend. It would still be about survival but would no longer be a game.

You may attempt to adjust the control settings ?

What do we really want as far as Day/Night?
skyline-gtr replied to crimsonbzd's topic in Suggestions
I have come across a solution to this issue in a fantastic game called Gran Turismo, I belive it was first used in the Gran Turismo 5 game and is still used in the newest version called Gran Turismo 6. As someone already suggested above it would be an option presented to the admin upon server creation. It consists of a set of sliders. You can set the start time and the variable which controls time progression. Another addition that could be considered is another couple of sliders which control length of Daylight/Darkness. -
I was not aware that KoS was a problem that required a solution

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.

Wow another thread title that completely ignores any notion that people may form differing opinions. Thread to be disregarded and treated as lame troll attempt. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

Nah mate, my arguement is that your arguement is based on fiction. My own view on the subject has not been released on this thread. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
skyline-gtr replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
I can sum up this argument quite easily. You: This type of solution is required to provide immersion in this game Another person: No, the solution already provided is more immersive. Me: No solution will be immersive, using the controls provided. You: shut up, I know what im talking about, you are stupid lawl! -

Ok so I will repeat myself. This is a game in which human movement while holding different objects, is attempting to be addressed. I think we can all agree that human movement, however much practice you have, is actually inconsistent, and inaccurate. So I suggest that your argument is in fact out of context. Also your thread title which you write as an absolute is in fact a matter of opinion since, immersion levels will vary from person to person and as I have already pointed out to you, for me no form of movement using a mouse to control something on the screen is going to make something immersive for me because it is a middleman in the situation. Also there is no such thing as a rock solid arguement because if it was rock solid there is no arguement it would simply be stating facts. The fact is that many people disagree with your fictional argument becaise it is in fact a matter of opinion. -

Cool I can see you are getting frustrated, is it perhaps because you are clearly wrong, your thread is based on fiction and opinion and you fail to respond to the more relevant points in my replies. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
skyline-gtr replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
Seriously? Expanding crosshair on movement and view panning is not going to solve any immersion issue for me. I would say that it would decrease immersion, because who has crosshairs in real life nevermind crosshairs that change size when i move. The point of a flat scren and mouse+keyboard breaking immersion for me is because in real life I do see things in three dimensions whilst a flat screen can only display two, and a mouse+keyboard breaks immersion for me because it is not comprable to using your hands at all, it is in fact a middle man in the process. Agin you were using abolutes while being wrong. Your reason being that it portray that it would mean that you are not confident in your subject. Which is wrong, because the subject is actually a matter of opinion. Using, I "think" or similar would actually show a better understanding of the subject, because in this case it is rather subjective, since this particular quote of yours was in fact in reply to my own personal experience and opinion of immersion. -
Try a different bush maybe ?

May I suggest a little brush up on your reading comprehension skills Wrecklessmedic. I was not telling people what does or does not belong in a forum, I was merley suggesting a more relevant alternative. I will also add that sarcasm is commonly known as the lowest form of wit.

Yes I can see that from your topic history also.

Alright Inception. I will change my ways. Its just that you seem to be referring to this one thread. I was referring to this as well as the following: Where is all the friggin water at ? How Big Is The World Right Now? Screenshot folder ? So.... um WTH? forgive me if i thought that they belonged in the new player forum, as they do seem to pertain to being a new player. I was not aware of that the same topics were often found in both general and new player. I only added the troubleshooting and google as an alternative, just to cover bases. apolagies :) edit: I amit I was slighty annoyed at the questions being posed, as I feel that no effort was made on the OPs part to find a solution. So instead of expressing my annoyance, I tried to help by offering an alternative means of finding the answer that did not involve posting on the "main" forum for the game.

Will there be consequences for your actions?
skyline-gtr replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
I have a similar thing that happens in gaming, to me at least. I have been gaming for many, many years. Now what used to happen when I got a new game, I would play game for many days, weeks, and probably finish it. Something changed, when the internet became involved, I started to look at GameFAQs and forums etc. This opened my eyes to a vast new world of end gear weapons, magic etc etc. The change was slow, took a number of years but I soon started to realise what I was doing, I had in fact turned one of my favourite hobbies into a job! A job that was to not play the game for fun but to follow such a strict path through games, collecting absolutey everything it had to offer. This was not fun and I did not feel any sense of accomplishment either. I now try to avoid any sort of thing like that with games that I am really looking forward. Yeah sometimes I get stuck and like to do a little research. Moral of the story: Ignorance is bliss! -
