The military will deploy into any where with infantry having them carry their full kit in a large rucksack. These are usually ILBE As you can see he actually has two packs on there. The one he's immediately wearing is the ILBE pack containing most of his uniform, and personal items as well as extra other garments or equipment for grooming needed in the field. The second pack attached to that is defined as an "assault pack" these are issued in a variety of size depending on the role of the soldier and their deployment. Each branch of the military also tends to have their own variations done on these packs. To add more to the variety. But the idea is the same to have a relatively moderate sized bag, that can be compressed down to ensure whatever equipment is needed for a determine time period can be easily carried and secure while moving in a hostile environment. These usually have nylon straps and buckles to sinch down to ensure it remains as small profile as possible with the equipment contained within. Per the original request, a mountain packpack with a camo pattern, or just switching to OD Green or Coyote Tan would be correct for the size of an ILBE rucksack, and the Taloon bags could easily have the same treatment done to appear as an Assault pack. They'd be about the appropriate size. The only major additions is that these packs are also MOLLE capable so they potentially could have additional space added through the addition of pouches if a soldier chose too.

I believe this is more the style of pack you'd want for 60 slots. The pack you posted is like a single day patrol bag. I use one of those as a range pack. It hold quite a bit, but no where near 60 slots worth of stuff.

Master List of Equipable Items the Community Wants in the Game

We could have beard hats? It's a (fake) beard, and it's a hat! Win(sorta)\Win -
A friend of mine has two Romanian SKS rifles. He's modified one to be a sniper platform...Modified...Heavily...Custom cuts and fittings for the receiver to mount the scope. Which is still a Soviet PSO-1 scope. The weapon cannot be loaded with a stripper clip but can easily be individually loaded per round. And he's currently in the process of doing AK magazine fitting customization to make it so he can use a 20 round mag with the rifle. A longer magazine would make the bipod no longer functional when laying prone. It can be done, it just takes some machining to make this possible. On the flip side I agree it shouldn't have a long range scope...

Adding dynamic wind is complicated. It's a very complicated system to simulate and maintain - if you added a few constants then it'd be a little easier but wind behavior changes based on time of day, weather, pressure systems, terrain, the pressence of wind breaks like trees/bushes/walls and various other things. I'd linger on the edge of this being too difficult in this engine as it currently stands. Then there'd be the need to add things to help monitor wind directionality and speed.

Having this method would be a huge improvement. Though that doesn't discount I'd like to able to set certain locations to be for only a specific kind of item. Like pockets will only carry cans of soda.

Just curious have you ever been injured in a way that you've bled out? My experience from internal bleeding once, was feeling weak, dizzy, and I'd randomly black out. Now I dealt with this by going to the hospital and getting bed rest for a day or two with a nice IV to replenish fluids.

There have been several recent posts suggesting some solutions to this issue... And they're not super complicated methods or drastic changes to the existing systems in place. Just refining them a bit. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/170056-more-realistic-inventory-management/?hl=inventory and http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164736-inventory-space-same-capacity-but-4x-number-of-squares/?hl=inventory

Western-feeling | Or: My 2 wishes: Hat & Leg Holster
DaedalRogue replied to irishroy's topic in Suggestions
That style of chest holster has existed for awhile and was popular with Helo pilots during Vietnam conflict and even some still in use it today. For the most part that style has been replaced with people using MOLLE holsters aligned that way on the front of their LBV/PCV. -
Added effects to less potent melee weapons could also change how the melee system works and make it more intuitive for users to acclimate to. A good example would be to add a knockdown effect to the Baseball bat so that getting hit with it and not having it be a headshot doesn't mean you're left standing there for the still buggy pathing of zeds to more easily chew on you. Or add armor values to the type of clothing you have which could impact the damage taken or chance of bleeding after being attack by tooth and nail of the zeds. An example here is the basic T-Shirt offers no defense, but picking up a raincoat would decrease the chance of bleeding after being attacked.

Spear was one of the first man-made weapons. I don't see why we can't create some sharp pointy sticks, or have a mechanic to harden sharpened sticks to be more durable. Then again you have options to affix blades, screwdrivers, and other pointy things to the end of a stick and use that for a spear as well. It's something I think should be added.

Thats pretty good conjecture. It's been confirmed though from the Vietnam conflict our NVA regulars were carrying soviet made AK-47s or the chinese Type 56. As these are pretty much the same rifle to the degree that parts are interchangable between them. But that was certainly true in a lot of brush wars during the cold war.

I agree with your statements here. My bone of contention is the majority of this list is of military arms or collector curio arms that have a degree of rarity associated with them even in the collectors community. Along the lines of finding captured german arms from WW2, no one ever mentions finding the common MGs like the MG-34 and MG-42. Both of these were commonly issues among german soldiers and tons should've been captured. Or perhaps the actually Russian DPV from WW2. Even then they are curios arms that are rare to locate despite their common usage in the past. I'd rather see the rise of more common civilian arms than stretching out and grabbing a lot more military tech. Ruger 10/22, Browning Mk2 hunting rifle, CZ550, and a myriad of other readily available civilian weapons are along these lines. But if everyone wants more military arms okay...

Alright I can see this. I'd view this more as an expandable chest harness though. You're only manually placing pouches onto the LBV as you acquire them allowing for more slots to become available up to a maximum of 12 squares. I can see a degree of tedium with that, but accounting for a marginal increase in storage space and the ability to more easily have items just become centralized to a location. Like magazines as you reload defaulting back to the Ammunition storage location is much nicer than random pant/sleeve/pack location as space is available I think could make for inventory management a little bit easier. The idea for the pouches is that they'd behave like the weapon attachments currently. Namely those like for the Mosin where you pick up the Bayonet or the PU Scope then attach them to the weapon. So to that degree is the management you'd have to interact with there. At least with how I organize my equipment for backpacking, or my range bag for shooting - everything has its proper place. Unless we're permitted to establish that in the inventory creating some dedicated storage for that I think is the most meaningful way to get that functionality. The coding limitation on this is more entailed into hooking up the scripting system and establishing flags on items to determine their nature. Even so that can be simply Weapon Class: Pistol, Medical, Ammunition, Food, Wearable, etc... This is similar to a systems used in Mechwarrior franchise games for determining weapon slot types and allocating those to be limited to Energy/Ballistic/Missile as the break down occurs there. There is some work to have this implemented and the attachment system being applied to a wearable item will be interesting to see. But if it works it expands on a whole different setup potential that could be applied to backpacks, belts, leg drops and a myriad of other things - Even so if this pouch idea works you could see Rifle ammo satchel or attachments for individual rounds. Those are common on most hunting rifles today in the U.S. for having your spare rounds in a wrap around the buttstock of the weapon
-
Nice idea, I think it'd work well overall.
-
The issue I see here is these are all military weapons. Where are the general civilian arms? Side Note: PPSH is a Sub Machine gun, not an Assault rifle. This is characterized by its use of Pistol munitions namely the 9x18 Makarov round.
-
As long as they strive to ensure the real world characteristics are there and working I think the lethality of all the guns should be fine and it'll be up to people to pick their weapon of choice. Every weapon has its strengths and weaknesses and I don't think any of them should attempt to be leveled out for mechanics sake.

I'm not sure what you mean 'inventory hell?' I don't see how a scalable inventory would be any more or less challenging to manage than the existing one with items being exchanged as they are between a new pair of pants or a new pack? Even adding the clothing option of shirts in there. It's just another rigging in the UI where items are being held. If you're talking about the degree of scrolling required to move stuff around in the inventory. Sure - there is already an extensive amount of that to account for. But this is meant to give focused and meaningful storage space. With only a mild improvement above the existing LBVs (Load Bearing Harness). I tossed the suggestion in because I personally would find this useful. I'm not concerned with inventory management cause if I need to move stuff around I'll find a safe spot and use the ground to reorganize - similar to what most people do when they're out and about.

I'm just going to say I can't agree with you on that. (edited from something less polite). The reason why you got one for $100 is because it is the most manufactuered weapon EVER. There were 20 million rifles made between it's adoption by the russian military in 1891 through its final service in the 1950's. It served in that time as a main battle rifle and a sniper platform. Watch a guy try to make a 1,000 Meter Shot with the Mosin My personal Mosin I've hit targets out to 400 meters with the iron sights from a crouched rested position. I'm looking at getting a sniper variant with the original PU scope in the near future to have both a main battle rifle version from WW2 and a Sniper variant from WW2. The potentional for accuracy at long range from the 7.62x54R round is not to be understated as well, it continues to be the round used by Russian armed forces namely in the SVD and SVDS platforms. As well as their heavy caliber for DMR and support weapons. On the subject at hand. I don't feel shoe horned into using the Mosin, I generally prefer it. Though I'd like to point out that the forward post on the iron sights is too long. That's one of the few inaccuracies I've seen with it.

I take it you never read World War Z - and don't tell me you watched the movie it's nothing like the book. But in the book the government in the US at least was pushed back over the Cascade and Sierra Nevada ranges of mountains making a contiguous land barrier that the zeds couldn't easily surmount. Sealing up all the passes allowed the US Government in its remnants to fortify for the long haul whilst abandoning major cities that had managed to bunker themselves down somehow. Through the War part of the book you'll have them flying supply runs to these besiged cities that remain doing airdrops via C130s to help those populaces while they held out because they couldn't wage a land war against the Zeds yet. So from that perspective this idea makes perfect sense, and I kinda like the thought that while the world has gone to hell somewhere people on the outside are trying to organize, supply, and rebuild an effort to really fight back. Now on the flipside I wouldn't have this idea implemented until we've seen all the other systems put into place and we're trying to deal with a roving mass of zeds.

The requested design would only be a total of 4 slots larger than the standard combat vest currently and would take quite a while to collect the pouches required to fully fill one out. The idea surrounding this was in conjunction with two other inventory posts, One segregating pockets so combat vest would have a series of 1x2 Blocks to hold magazines, and the Subdivision of the existing squares to account for "real sizing" spaces. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/170056-more-realistic-inventory-management/?hl=inventory and http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164736-inventory-space-same-capacity-but-4x-number-of-squares/?hl=inventory Respectively, those changes by themselves would be an improvement to gameplay mechanics and then gets users to think about how they're going to carry equipment and what is the best equipment to try to obtain for their play style. This will be a bit of trial and error at first which is good as that's what a lot of this title is to most people in the beginning. Even without those changes this doesn't make it much different other than have the availability to customize the spaces you want in a myriad of ways. Also Molle Gear depending on your setup works well with having a pack on. Most Molle gear is also design to work with having a belt with additional pouches and leg drops as well. I suggested the idea as a means of allowing people to customize themselves further. I don't think there is a relative balance issues associated with this, but changing the equip time for using the backpack vs vest vs holster would be beneficial to the overall experience in the game. Though all of this is just in my opinion.

Depends on the version of the AK, even the modern AK74 doesn't support alot of rail mounted up attachments, but they have a fitting system that works on the side for flashlights and an undermount system for grenade launchers. There is a modification that can be made to AKs to allow for top mounted rail system. If you're looking at the brand new AK-12 which the russian military is just rolling out now. It fits for the Nato standards of today for attachments and motifications that can be made.

To be honest, I have MOLLE gear. I picked up the gear to actually go to gaming conventions namely PAX with the full setup of a Helghast Infantry from Killzone. So that sort of gear its readily available to civilians as well as military personel. I know a lot of paintballers that have their own gear as well. I suggest the plate carrier vest, but left out the ballistic plates as an attachment as those could only be found in Police/Military hands. While what I have is a full plate carrier vest I don't think I'd want the 30 pound front and back plates in it ever unless something apocalyptic happened. Though the one good arguement I could see to this is Soviet Block countries don't use MOLLE gear, there is a russian version thats slightly different in it's rigging method but a similar concept which I think could be used as a replacement for it.

Can we settle for Stock strikes and bayonet thrusts when available? Otherwise martial arts beyond fisticuffs won't really work in this engine...
