    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I'm comparing hardcore/normal experience on equally populated servers, I still got shot at less with my hardcore characters. Populated Hardcore servers do exist, but it may depend on your region as to rather or not they show up based on >ping. This would suggest there is a difference in mindset between the two player bases, though I dare not speculate as to what, or my situation is just a fluke. Logically though, the mindset should be about the same if there are much people juggling two characters as one would think. Then again, most people don't have the time on their hands that I do.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

True, on the low pop ones. What usually happens with Hardcore servers is that you have a bunch of really low pop ones, and a couple with higher pop. I generally only log into my Hardcore character when I see those aforementioned populations have drifted to the top. I don't play on low-pop servers. It's boring. Which is not to say that you don't get shot at, just less. And just to be clear, I'm not advocating either server type. Just reporting personal experience.

    Remove guns from the game.

*eye roll* Haven't we had this conversation? You and I? When there are more survival mechanics and zombies are a threat your situation will improve you. Wait for those things, or get out. Maybe DayZ isn't right for you.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I personally find the hardcore experience more harrowing because it's easier to get snuck up on. I'm an incredibly paranoid sufferer of anxiety...Even so, the stress is astounding. That said, I think the "hardcore" hives will be more meaningful when there is more to separate them from normal hives than just first person. And..FOR SCIENCE..My own personal experiences are that I get shot at less on hardcore. Although, right now I'm pretty indifferent. I just like having more than one character.

Sun Tzu - The Art of DayZ ?!?!

The Art of War is a brilliant read. Made me the gamer I am today. And not just shooters or military games, but both realtime and turn based strategies. It's even applicable to Magic the Gathering.

    I don't understand this game.

All those things will change, in due time. Just gotta wait.

    I don't understand this game.

Yes and No. Mostly no. Basically. There will always be KoS (Kill on Sight) and communication breakdown, and paranoia when dealing with other players. But. Right now, it's especially bad because there isn't much in the way of PvE (per say) implemented. No Zedz to turn our guns on, no environment antagonize us. It's always going to be tough dealing with other people, but I imagine social dynamics will change a little with the implementation of more survival mechanics. In the meantime, make your own fun! I can kind of play it as a stealth game. I get my kicks out of being sneaky and stalking people. Or taking stupid risks in highly populated areas to see if they pull off. Finally, you could take a break for two or three months and see what's change by then. No shame in that. And remember... Never get attached to your character or your stuff in a survival game. You WILL die. If you didn't, the game isn't doing it's job.

New appreciation for the DayZ team

In recent years we are lucky to be as much a part of the process as we have been! There are a multitude of examples of brilliant dev teams that utilize social media and give us insight on what is to come, and take our feedback and fix disparities they might not have seen without our prospective. The tight lipped approach is what you get out of most developers who have a publisher standing over their shoulder, things are subject to change rapidly in development and they don't want to make promises they can't keep from a PR standpoint, I suppose. Though, it's not completely unheard of for indie devs to remain ominously silent. The most information I ever found out about Rust was actually some bullet points some made from a really early series of Q&A type reddit posts from Garry. The direction is vague, but from what I gather the game is going to mimic human evolution in a way. The modern looking weapons and attatchments will be phased out and replaced by more ramshod scrapped together looking weapons. You'll eventually have traps, electrical engineering, factories. There was an example made of talk about coloring the clothing of your team mates to the same color--Like if you built a village, your people would wear that color. But nothing would stop someone else from wearing that color and infiltrating. You could counter that by placing a series of traps only members would know. Eventually vehicles. Again, it was just vague examples. A lot of what comes next will likely be defensive stuff, since we have so many offensive items and craftables. This is all a combination of speculation and my shotty memory of what I read, so don't quote me or take it 100% verbatim.

Post your clever joke names for DayZ!

I'm not clever enough for that :c But I will say: DayZ isn't a game. It's an online non-multiple choice abstract BDSM role testing device! If the male/female ratio of players were higher, I might even go so far as to call it a fetish dating service. Then again.....Youtube vids of people playing give me the impression that gender isn't a factor. >.>

ANyone can tell me ....Why !

English is dead. Who wants a funeral invitation?
  12. DayZ has taught me to a valuable survival technique in gaming: Shoot anyone with a vaguely eastern European accent, because they could be Russian. And if they are Russian, chances are they are devoid of reasoning and will kill you. As horrible as that sounds >.>

    "Flawed Concept" - Discuss

I'm not defending him. I'm not choosing a side. And I'll tell you why: Because it's ridiculous. Why get our panties in a bunch over something that changes little if anything in the now? There will be advantages and disadvantages, the likes of which we won't see for at least ten months. My point is, why whine now when we don't have repercussions to whine about? Absurd waste of time and energy. "Early Access" is a silly marketing phrase that means "Gamble your money on our promises" You gambled. You feel like you lost that gamble? That's on you. No one else. Please dont be so simple, you're better than that. I've seen it.

    "Flawed Concept" - Discuss

Coming from the prospective of a tabletop gamer, maybe his vision is that of a more immerse pseudo-roleplaying atmosphere with the level of immersion that the playerbase nor the engine can provide. It also sounds like a number of other issues. There is no magic bullet one size fits all reason, but more a consortium of many which may or may not include: *It's gotten tedious/not excited for it anymore *Differences in an opinion with the devs. *Perfectionism/feeling burdensome to the devs. *Being homesick. *Personal life, ect. Reasons that we will never get the whole picture of, and thus have no business judging. The decision has been made. Move on. I think a lot of people are using this as yet another excuse to project on other people rather than admit that they are at fault. Ego won't allow them to consider that it was they, themselves, who chose to purchase an alpha product nonchalantly masquerading under the guise of "Early Access", and despite warning labels, still moan about how they are the victims. They are right, to some extent. These people are the mindless victims of advertising, They bought it because it was what everyone else was doing. They put their money down on potential. And potential is still what they have. Hasn't changed. There will be positives and negatives to Rocket putting distance between himself and DayZ. But our position in the now is still the very same. We're still awaiting the core features of an alpha product. Save the bitching and moaning for 10 months down the road.
  15. I'm a little sad. But... I will do the only sensible thing there is to do: Wait it out and see where it goes. No reason for undue stress over wild speculation garnered from a scant few words you probably don't even have the whole context for. Why put yourselves through that kind of trauma? You are human beings. Act like it. You have self-awareness, use it. Regret, whine, complain, feel cheated, feel entiteld---Save these things for when the preverbial shit actually does hit the fan, ducklings. To do so before hand, or in anticipation for, is just a waste of energy and time. And honestly, most of the complaints on this forum are from people who have absolutely zero insight on game development.

    Death Note [Not the series]

I once wrote: "The pink dragon flies at midnight as the chartreuse pig howls at the moon. -- When the time is right, you will know what this means."

    Funny DayZ bandit moment

I have a similar story, except I was the victim! Was in Cherno with a sawn off, at night. I was getting shot at by what sounded like an SKS. Probably from some other building. So I ducked into a house for cover, ran right up the stairs. And I waited. Because: When in doubt, wait. Right? So this mob of fresh spawns had gathered around both exits, and in poor english (Obviously not their first language) they tell me what a bastard I am for shooting at their friends. I think I was called a puta. First language was likely Spanish? I tell them what really happened--someone shot at me, so I went into cover. They didn't believe me, or there was a communication breakdown. I suppose it was just one of those situations where a mob wanted blood. So they stormed the building, swarming me, and beat me to death. Taunting and mocking in barely decipherable English ensued. I just sat at the "You are Dead" Screen laughing for awhile. Communication breakdown. Just..hilarious. lol. Woe to the Vanquished, indeed.

Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?

I don't mind them. This is probably because the survival horror games of old had rather clunky controls as a feature. Having Leon Kennedy run down a narrow corridor full of zombies without getting bit wasn't easy >.> And to me, that built tension. Fear.
  19. Rudette

    What's your average lifespan?

I average about three to five days of real time. Usually death by complacency, or I get so geared I go to the coast with the intention of dieing in a fight.

Thanks a lot DayZ Dev Team

Excellent game with loads of potential, being updated at breakneck speeds. I'm sure we won't recognize the game we're playing three months from now!
  21. I usually roam around up north collecting food and ordinance. Sometimes I just run towards Svelto. For some reason, Svelto is almost never looted dry. Someone may have come through looking for weapons, but the food is usually abundant. Once I'm geared I stick to the treeline around the coast. Watch people. Interfere when it suits me.

How long is your average Dayz session?

    Approximately 2 to 5 hours.

    There Is Hope For DayZ

Do we really need another one of these threads? Ok. I'll humor you: Congratulations! You've successfully gotten up on a soap box and to declare what could easily be considered common sense and painted it up in the entirety of your completely self-righteous and sanctimonious attitude. You'd make a fine Priest. Have you considered contacting the dioceses and applying an application for the formation of a parish?

Little guide to play UNICEF in DayZ

My MO: 1. Stay in the treeline. 2. Watch them. Watch them eat. Watch them sleep. 3. Slay them with your axe. 4. Season to taste 5. Open your backpack and pull out your hacksaw. 6. .....Wait a minute Right. A guide, a not a Cookbook. Sorry.
