    How did you last die?

I had a character that I had going for a couple months. Two maybe three months. She lasted a long time! I tend to shy away from most firearms.. I like my trusty axe and Mosin or crossbow---But this time I had been depending on my FNX45 .. I had actually managed to find a magazine for one and fell in love with it's ability to put out lots and lots of accurate close quarters pew pew. I decided to raid a police station for some more ammo. There was a guy waiting near the stairs with his SKS pointed at me. He fired off two rounds, I fired off YES rounds. He died, but he did manage to break my arm. I heard foot steps outside---presumably his buddies--so I ran out the side of the station and into the woods. Hid behind a tree. Bandaged up. Reloaded the 45. I flanked one pursuer and shot him in the back of the head and ran back into the woods. It had gotten dark and I couldn't see the other guy moving around.. But I could hear him. So I thought what the hell? I laid a flare on the ground and changed positions. To my surprise, he was stupid enough to investigate.. So I shot him in the back. I had lost alot of blood and my arm was broken--but I stumbled away alive >.> Exhilarating! I stumbled into the clinic looking for morphine or something to tear into rags and combine with my sticks. But there was already some guy with a moto helmet and an orange backpack looting the place. I yelled for him to get on the ground and he complied---but then I heard the crack of Mosin fire. Now my leg was broken... I now understood why he was so obedient. Before the unknown shooter's bolt action rifle could chamber the next round I unloaded what was left in my pistol into my hostage. GG. But I'm taking your friend with me! In true DayZ fashion I died in dreadful depressing fashion, much like the entire cast of Reservoir Dogs. You can't ask for better than that! I blame my death on desperation and urgency. I wanted to get into that clinic before someone came to investigate the gunshots as quickly as possible, get some cover and fix my arm. The lack of spacial awareness got me killed. The clinic was a bad move, a move towards a hot zone. I should have fled to the woods and went inland. I supposed had I stayed alive I would have continued to do what I'm doing now; looking for new ways to screw with the minds of those stranded in Chernarus. I just would have been better geared! A fresh start is always nice though.. When it's just me and my axe, reunited.

    And so it begins...

Yus.. These things will set the standard for a gamespace that is out to devour us! Normally, we're wandering for a couple hours and then have a handful of minutes of trauma and tension when we meet up with another player(s). With other survival elements in place we will always be combating something in environment .. This will of course make that two hours of wandering around much more enjoyable. We're getting there!

Has a Helmet ever saved your life?

I would like to add one more thing here! >.> Even though the helmet has saved me in one fringe case where someone didn't come closer to finish my off while I was unconscious, it may be better to wear something smaller and less obstructive to minimize your chance of being seen. Or just for aesthetics! That is, if you're a lone wolf!

What lags less? DayZ Mod or Game?

-snorts- no reason to get so aggressive, duckling. I'm not here to start some argument or harass anyone. Your accusation and quickness to jump the gun is, frankly, insulting. I will excuse your rudeness. I'm here to discuss and hopefully help. Yes, these things work in tandem. What you've described still falls underneath the umbrella of my simplification. Variables may compound and appear to be the same problem but are still genuinely separate when problem solving and fixing the issues a player is experiencing. Symptoms of FPS drop are not going to be cured with a good connection. Symptoms of a bad connection are not going to be cured with new graphics card, better ram, or adjustments to ingame settings or ini. The scenario you described can be alleviated by joining a server you have better ping with or avoiding high traffic servers if you find that alleviates your problems. That would be a lag issue, but is in no way an FPS issue. A clear distinction, as per my point. OP may or may not need help discerning where to look first if/when they decide to play the game. As for the laptop comment.. Laptops aren't all bad I'll admit. They come with obvious utility. But they are more expensive, too integrated for cheap and reliable upgrades, and still teather you to wireless connections which (more often than not, but not always) contribute to complications and connection issues. I'm not really against laptop users or usage, per say, but I don't find them very cost effective or user friendly enough for my own standards. To each her/his own.

    Tips please

There are a couple of new towns. Novo is probably the most hostile of the new places! Six months. Hmmm. Have the police stations and clinics been around that long? (I dont think they have) Anyhow, if they haven't they are in most major cities and some of the smaller towns. Good source of loot and firearms, but usually high risk areas. You'll know the police stations as they are very distinct. A yellow two or three story building with a small round tower ontop. Check police car trunks for loot. Sometimes you can grab ammo, a pistol, clips, clothes. Good times! You can cut trees down now if you have an axe. It's good to do this for sticks to make splints from. The little hunter shacks in the woods sometimes have and assortment of loot in them which can include firearms, crossbows, tents, and other such things. Barns also sometimes spawn firearms Scouting a high traffic area before entering it can save your life. 2-5 minutes of observation could reveal someone changing positions or even a looter victim you might trail track and kill. Chemlights and flares have been added. They make suprisingly good traps. People seem to be drawn to them. Like moths to my axe--er the flame. You can use stone to repair axes to a pristine state (presumably you're sharpening them?) You can hold down G to throw items---Be wary of this when holding a firearm, as they will often disappear if you accidently throw them!

What lags less? DayZ Mod or Game?

Some people consider an FPS drop to be lag, but really it isn't technically. Lag is internet connection/latency related. FPS drops causing similar visual effect when your hardware isn't so great and/or the game isn't optimized. I firmly believe there is no such thing as a gaming laptop. So.... Get a desktop

Has a Helmet ever saved your life?

A pristine motorcycle helmet once saved me from a sniper in Berezino. I was shot while crossing the fields on my way out, foolishly exposed route really. EShot me in the head, put me unconscious. I was too far away for a double tap, they thought I was dead, or just got distracted by another target---whatever the case I got back up a few seconds later and ran as fast and far as I could.

    And so it begins...

I haven't jumped into experimental this patch, but from what I read food is rarer too? Can you give a more detailed overview of what you know for my benefit, pretty please? I for one think this is excellent news! I've always said that the gamespace itself needs to be harder to survive. It will be excellent when he have to worry about shelter and warmth wetness hypothermia and all that jazz! (That is, assuming hunger will be an issue due to changes!)

Dear gentlemen who planned to kill me

-snorts- Petty. There is a class of people who play DayZ... And they think that the moral high ground should make them immune to bullets or set some bar that everyone they meet should be held too. ....And when it doesn't work out their way we get a KoS thread. "I wasn't careful about being Friendly woe is me" ....When it does work out their way we get one of these vapid bragging threads. To which people with the same mentality will throw their beans at. Rather than bragging? Goading? Calling people out? Stroking the ego? These people should be learning from their mistakes! Learn that being friendly means risk management and exposing yourself at a careful deliberate pace. This is a perfect example that the moral high ground is just the largest mound of bodies from which the victor stands to cast judgement on those he or she treads upon.

Dear gentlemen who planned to kill me

This isn't so much discussing the game as it is "lol you messed up lol now listen to me stroke my ego and be smug about it! lol" some kind of egotistic reach towards some self gratification that should have been derived from the act itself. I like a discussion. I am fond of debates. Hell, I LOVE a good story... But a discussion can be had with some semblance of dignity...

Renaming game modes is a bad idea

It kind of makes more sense at the moment! But.. It is kind of discouraging in the sense that we don't know if a true hardcore mode is ever coming.

So what is DayZ, exactly ?

For me? It is a Patrick Bateman/American Psycho simulation! Silly boyz and your silly gunz.

Dear gentlemen who planned to kill me

So.. Someone made a mistake and you shot them? Sounds like DayZ. So is this supposed to be... news? Gloating? E-peen stroking? What? Redundancy. -eye roll-

    In-game Currency

Any sort of established currency system would be unnecessary. Money is for governments, order, regulation, ownership, enslavement. Without the power, symbolism, and enforcement established currency has no meaning---In such a world, the whole idea of currency is a worthless construct... that is unless you want to use it for kindling. All people have left in DayZ are needs, no luxuries, no overlords. Bartering is enough. >.> You also seem to assume that DayZ will ever have an environment conducive to ... communal behavior. Noble ideals.. But naive!

    The DayZ endgame

The endgame will always be about protecting/dieing to protect what you own and/or taking what you want/dieing in the process of taking what you want. What is yours, what you own, and what others have will hopefully keep changing to give this competition some meaning.

    Saddest death in gaming

I had a character that had been going on around her third month. Survived a 3 on 1 encounter in Berezino with some hit and run tactics. It was intense. Satisfying. Broke my arm though, and lost most of my blood. Stumbled into the clinic only to see another player looting. Told him to get the fuck on the ground and asked if he had any morphine. He complied.. But then I got my leg broken by a Mosin firing from somewhere behind me... I don't know if they were working together or not but I like to think they were... So before the unknown shooter could chamber the next round I unloaded my pistol into his friend's chest. Then I heard that cracking PEW! You are dead.
  22. I'd probably tinker with it just because it's new, but it depends on what else has made it into the game by the time that part comes.Fortification and construction probably won't be too meaningful without other persistent elements in place and the server communities that would form as a result. The biggest incentive to fortify would be defense! *Defense from other players? Well..if you log out, you don't want to leave any tell-tale signs where your stash is.. Reinforced windows and barbed wire are going to tell would-be looters where your stuff is. *Defense from the elements? Not quite here yet! However, I'm sure seeking shelter and regulating body temperature will be implemented before we see construction, as some foundations for this are already in place. *Defense from the Zombies? Zombies are getting better all the time, but aren't numerous or challenging enough to warrant securing a structure. Active roaming hordes would add some drama here. In light of all this the game would have to evolve drastically for fortification to compete with a nomadic lifestyle in viability, despite the cool factor.
