G36 = The prettiest assault rifle.

Part of me is sad that there won't be cannibalism. Everytime I pick up a hacksaw I think about it... Then again I can see why not; Fresh spawns would be called "Veal" instead of "Bambi"

These stories have been good reads. Always interesting to see what other people counter. I have moods. So I give a decide how I'm going to portray each survivor I respawn as--- to experiment with what tactics get me further, or just to play a social experiment for my own sick entertainment. Sometimes I'm friendly. Sometimes I'm hostile. Sometimes I'm just crazy. Though... Lately all experiments are off If I find a payday mask or burlap sack to throw over my head. My goal after that is usually to find an axe and stalk people. Wait for them to get into a vulnerable animation, get complacent, or just present there back to me for long enough. The latest victim was going into an apartment building, oh he had a nice shiny backpack with my name on it. I followed him in and waited in the hallway on the second floor---putting myself between him and his exit. When he came down there was this awkward moment of silence as he just stood there locked in place---staring down the foreboding scene of terrifying maniac in a mask holding an axe who had seemingly manifested out of thin air. Then I laughed over proxy. "HEEHEHEAHAHAAHAAAHahaaaAHAH!" and ran right at him. He panicked--you could almost see his character stuttering as he jerked around hitting buttons in terror--by the time he went for his own axe he was already dead. And his backpack was mine <.< To show you the polarity in the way I play there was another instance where I was traveling and met with a friendly stranger. We hiked to town, hearing gunshots in the distance before we reached our destination. He was more geared than me so I told him that I'd clear houses first, so that if any suprises were waiting inside at least he wouldn't lose his stuff. We walked into a building and I get winged by an M4 on entry. I duck around the corner just in time to yell "Run. Don't come in here. He's got a gun. Just get out of here. GO." In atypical cinema drama fashion, I run at the armed bandit, strafing another round, and start pummeling him with my fists. I managed to get him to move around, dislodging him from his corner. He repositioned and shot me in the face. Hope the other guy made it! I think adapting different playstyles can be healthy for your over all psyche. I think if I didn't get axe murder people every now and then my frustrations with my friendly playthroughs would have risen beyond any chance for redemption.

High-end gear that doesn't necessarily make you look paramilitary would be nice! Perhaps some vests to wear (In the same slot as holsters and harnesses) that are just for aesthetics or offer only one or two slots. *More improvised gear that we can make ourselves--the Improvised backpack is awesome. *Improvised scrapmetal/tire rubber shoulder pads or vests *Sharp object + Burlap Sack = Scary Burlap Mask! *At least two more types of gas masks *Finger-cut gloves *More leather apparel. *Football Shoulderpads *Police Vests and uniforms *Police hats and helmets *Police pants w/kneepads *Civilian/clothing vests with one or two pocket capacity that can be worn over shirts. *Kevlar vests *Black and White/Ubran Camo variations of military gear. *Coats/Trench in brown and black leather!

DayZ is a game about survival, risk management, preparation, and patience. Every so often it would be fantastic if you could stop and ask yourself "How do I want to progress?" For Example: Do I scavenge and prepare for: *Raiding bandit patrolled schools, fire-stations, and police stations? *Staking a claim to a rare vehicle and get it up and running, facing off against others with the same goal? *Getting gear at airfields, potentially trafficked by snipers and bandits? *Navigating through the woods for tree stands, barns, and outlying cities for potential civilian firearms? *Risking getting into a skirmish at the military tents? *Facing off with hordes of zombies(when zombies are a threat) in the bigger cities for gear? *Do the necessary prep-work and scavenging for winterized clothing and camping materials to access treacherous regions for potential gear there? *Go to the woods and making a living off the land, crafting leather gear and eating bunniez? Progression should not be linear with a narrow amount of good loot spawns, nor should the map be saturated with high end gear----but every choice should have it's associated risks. What this game needs most is to feel like the PvE aspect of it out to devour you. Right now the game world is rather tame. A weather/body temperature system would be absolutely fantastic. As others have mentioned, the mod Frostfall in Skyrim does this so well that many players simply do not play the game without it. It adds a level of intensity and a sense that the environment is harsh and unforgiving. Incredibly immersive.

Video Tutorials For New Players (Most recent episode - Improving PvP Defense - 1st Feb)
Rudette replied to ep_metheus's topic in New Player Discussion
Ah! I like this. Being mindful of positioning and exposure is a very useful tip, especially for those new to shooters or adapting to the slower pace of DayZ. -
So! It's inevitable that we throw this quote around. So the question is.... What atrocities have you commited for the good of the group? (Or have been inflicted on you by the group.)
-
>.> I guess I'll share mine. After about two hours of traveling with strangers I earned a reputation for being creepy and ruthless. I urged everyone to put down one of our members who had fallen down some stairs and broken his legs for the sake of the group. When no one would step up to do so I got tired of waiting around and beat him to death with my baseball bat. We gathered up the loot and moved on. In the next town I got complacent the leader of the group and another guy approach me---evidently they had been skyping/venting and decided to take me out. They pulled out their crowbars and beat me to death. The last words I heard were "We're sorry. You're creepy and unpredictable. Bloodthirsty. You're a danger to this group." I smiled, at least that trek through Chernarus ended with a compliment.

Do Want. I need this backpack, a clown mask, raincoat, winter/ubran camo pants, and an axe.

Music, while not realistic, can still be quite the tool for immersion. >.> Im a fan of 'In the house in a heartbeat.' from 28 days later....mmm.. John Murphey the composer for that one? I think. Anyway! Gets me psyched for more DayZ! Or some of them creepy vibes tracks from Silent Hill. A low priority of mine, mind you, because I tend to play my own tunes. However, I would give any music packaged with the game a fair shot.

Im with AsHawkins! Civilian vehicles with scrap metal and chainlink fence welded to the windows and such for pretection. Beat up looking transportation, weathered and damaged. Very post apoc, and adds the bleakness of the situation.

Add Hip Holsters, Duel Pistols and Utility Belts
Rudette replied to Ziggles (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Dual pistols? No thanks. Holding two pistols is tacky and wasteful; things that you get killed in a zombie apocolypse. -
Is it weird that I've already done this? Except I throw in a Joker impression. :o If you run up on two guys tell them you only have one position in your gang. Fortunatly, you brought two pipe wrenches so that they can fight to the death to see who gets it.

Everyone should know basic improvised skills, but In post apocalyptic settings a commonalty that you see in media is that people with knowledge and trade skills are coveted. They are highly useful finite resources in their own right. A doctor might even be taken into a group forcefully. This would amplify some of those standoff situations, giving you another quality to bargain with! Going into Zed infested towns to attain pre-outbreak knowledge would serve as a cornerstone for community building amongst groups of players. For example: What if characters couldn’t innately test and draw blood for blood bags? Imagine that your character found a medical journal of some sort in a lootable hospitable. You learned this rare and valuable skill, but then you’re held up by bandits! You plea with them not to shoot--- that you know how to draw blood and it could prove useful! Rather than lying face down in the dirt while your backpack is being looted, you are instead still walking on two feet, all be it indoctrinated into their group. When the crafting system is elaborated on a bit more and animals are brought into the fold a book on skinning animals might prove useful to someone trying to make a living in the woods as it might provide better quality hides for gear crafting. Perhaps there could be the addition of gunshops in some of the smaller towns—but since they are so easily accessible, the loot table would represent that they were probably sacked during the early stages of the outbreak. For most players the contents would be, for the most part, useless. For players who had attained a book on how to craft and recycle ammunition the bullet casings they scrounge there could prove useful. These books could be elaborated on with every major update to the game. For every new type of system, there could be basic skills that everyone innately knows and advanced skill sets to learn from rare and valueble book loot.

Ah. I See. That puts things into a new prospective for me. I will have to contemplate this. Thank you for taking the time to lay it all out for me. ^-^

I'd love to see the M4 replaced by the AK47 myself. M4s, M16s, M-anythings are like..the ugliest weapons ever made...And so dirt common in games these days. <.<

Ah! I see where you're coming from. However, I still see the potential in a skill system!

Extremely Non-Fun Game. But Fun, Strangely.
Rudette replied to Cullis's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZ should come with free memberships to a fetish dating site. After all, it helps so many people come to terms with their deep seeded inner masochist! -
I met with a stranger this morning, and we went scrounging through a village. I had less gear than him so I went to check buildings first. Walked up on a guy with a M14 and took a hit, but ducked around the corner long enough to screamin proxy "Don't come in here, he's got a gun, RUN! Just go!" and I bolt towards the armed man, fists flailing to buy the other guy time. Narrowly strafed his next round, got two good punches in then, then I was shot in the face. Better to die standing than to live on your knees.
-
I'm not really sure. :o But I know I'll never forget my first player kill. I run up on a guy eating beans and I wave to him. I reach out "Friendly! Hi there, how are you? ^-^" and he responds "Oh hai there.....-click-" He walked up and handcuffed me. Proceeded to explain that he needed my blood after losing his friend in a fire fight and taking some hits. Then he took my blood. He injected it into himself, went unconcious, went into shock and died.. I wiggled out of the cuffs, and looted all of the things, then ran straight for the tree line. That's right. I murder people with my own blood. What's more metal than that?

I usually try to calm down and analyse what I did wrong. Raging is a path to blaming every possible outside source but yourself. When you do this, you throw away valueble experience and knowledge. Rather than adapting to circumtances and using the tools you are given to overcome them, you instead remain stagnant and keep making the same mistakes over and over again when you choose rage. DayZ is a survival game! Adaptation is key to survival. Refusing to change means certain death in many vocations. Though I do have a peeve or two! I -HATE- when I get shot and hear some little snot over proxy chat say some trite bravado in ghetto/gangster/urban speak. Kids today are not only stupid, they are bragards about it. Like it's something to be proud of. What perfect little obediant and productive consumers they will grow up to be! Never once having an opinion that wasn't borrowed. It's.... Depressing. English is dead. :(

I like the idea of salvaged beat up looking transports, rugged and falling apart. Especially the armored busses. Very post-Apoc! They should be a relatively difficult high-end aquisition.Things that require persistant maintenance and scavenging to keep them useful. More projects to scavenge for are always fun.
-
I agree---Zombies should absolutely be high in number around areas with good loot. The bigger cities had higher population densities than all the smaller towns and villages. Cities should have awesome loot, but streets and outskirts pretty dense with zombies. Military installations and other sources of high quality loot should also be heavily infested! I want that feeling you get when you're creeping around town, ducking and weaving, trying not to get spotted or make too much noise so not to alert the zombies! As it is now.. You're only creeping around to avoid all the homicidle maniacs. I don't feel like the game world itself is out to devour us just yet. Also, roaming hordes. BAM! Suddenly: Zombies, when you least expect them.
-
Why is that? Elabroate please! I think tradeskills and what have you would make for more drama and human dynamic. I mean. What do really need to take people hostage for and force-feed them other than holding them up for their stuff? Wouldn't it be cool actually take prisoners for prolonged amounts of time for various different reasons---reasons that transcend the usual torture? The blood drawing of course, was just an example. I wouldn't propose actually taking away any basic skills from people, but perhaps implementing advanced mechanics that require those special skills as mentioned. Or to simplify it further, skills that just make you more effecient at something everyone can do.
-
>.> Vehicles will be awesome when the time comes I'm sure. <.< One of the things I'd like most right now is tighter melee, that feels... more visceral.
