Let's be honest we are all killers.. Try your hardest not to lie. Thanks
Rudette replied to capt. beefsteak's topic in General Discussion
I thought Toon was what the WoWkids called their characters, since they used the [Name] for some stupid meme or inside joke instead of you know..a name? Anyway.. These KoS threads feel old-hat! Maybe I should start up something about sharing axe-murder stories.. Though that might devolve too fast into a KoS thread. >.> -

Yus. In the house, In a heartbeat is a must. Some pretty good rock remixes of it out there too. >.> Some old survival horror soundtracks. Silent Hill in particular. Gwen's theme from Darksouls, the piano tune is really good. <.< But mostly Stone Sour, Slipknot, Korn, GazettE, Stabbing Westward, MCR, Cold, The Cure, Linkin Park, Gorrilaz, Marlyn Manson, MSI, Adverts, Depeche Mode, aann----... Naw I'll just keep going on forever. You get the idea!

I don't play in just one way. There isn't a whole lot to do, so every life for me is a different attitude. This ranges from homicide to altruistic, and the many grey areas inbetween. I am probably a killer though.. My favorite role is axe murderer. >.> -
Naw. >.> More uses for those gas cans! Play on night servers, go hunting people using gas lamps for fuel!

Will there be a reward system for characters that survive?
Rudette replied to sav112g's topic in General Discussion
Reward: Live another day. Eat another can of beans. -
I agree with this. People DEPEND on their religions, governments, and social hierarchies to tell them who they are and how to behave. Religion shoulders the burdens and responsibilities associated with free thought and fear of the unknown, supplants them with a sensation of self righteousness and zeal they can harness to erase doubt.Government lends a sense of protection, purpose, and responsibility. Social hierarchies establish our -learned- taboos and practices. Our standards. It is not uncommon to slit the throat of our own individuality to feel like a loved member of the tribe or subculture we choose to join. When these things disappear, the masks come off. People reveal how shallow and self-serving we all really are deep down. So much of ourselves are a front that many people live and die without achieving a modicum of self awareness. At the core of that facade is an animal out for it's own survival, comfort, and gratification. The long and short of it is.... When there is no one left to impress? Expect a human to respond with extreme cruelty to anything between her/him and her/his goal.

DayZ and Rust are both fantastic games, lots of potential in each.

My short time in the Army while they were processing us for basic training an 18 year old was told he wouldn't get to have energy drinks anymore. So he went out to binge on them and induced a heart-attack. -_- What a pointless way to die. Anyhow. I could see bandits with a backpack full of caffeinated beverages coming down to the coast to show a fresh spawn a good time. <.< I for one, praise the holy molecule---but in coffee format.

I play a little bit on both sides of the fence. Every time I spawn I go in with a different mindset/personality/goal in mind. KoS is fine. -----Everything between is fine------ Being friendly is fine. I think the problem lies with people who don't know how to properly engage in friendly behavior---Expose yourself as little as possible. Follow the rules of engagement, per say. Basic risk management skills! Don't play against KoS, play around it. Breaking line of sight when you engage in conversation, for example, is good way to scout someone for intent. Adapt. Also? I've found hardcore servers tend to house more friendly people, but that might be some sort of placebo effect after a string of coincidentally good encounters.

There is actually a lot of debate surrounding rather or not true altruism is possible and several theories surrounding both sides of the debate. When you help someone, you at the very least, receive an intrinsic reward. You feel good because you did it. Even something as simple as personal gratification, even from a presumably selfless act, is still a reward. Still a motivation. Still something that on some level you, yourself, desired that propelled you towards that act. -puts on Joker make up- Just like when I murder someone for a can of beans.

I suggest a change in playstyles with each time you spawn! Maybe your current life cycle is altruistic and friendly, perhaps your next is axe wielding maniac! That sort of thing. Not so much roleplay and getting into character as it is setting light parameters for how you handle things..It makes for a good change of pace in a game where there really isn't all that much to do yet! Another suggestion that stuck with me (I believe I read somewhere on this forum though unfortunately I can't recall where) Is that if you're playing friendly you should follow the rules of engagement and take control of the situation. Break line of sight when you make contact, especially with armed folks. Make sure any unarmed people you help out keep their distance. If you're going to help others expose yourself as little as possible while doing so.

I agree on several points. Particularly that there is no such thing as true altruism, that every human action is selfishly motivated and your point that bad players don't accept responsibility for their failures and thus throw away all the valuable information and experience received from those failures, in essence refusing to change, adapt, and survive for the petty sake of ego. And while, yes, gearing up and the sense of progression when you're wandering around gathering loot is the most exciting part of the game, I don't necessarily feel the need for a sense of rage towards the helper-hero types. Depending on the personality I adapt for that particular play through they provide me with a target to stalk, a leg up, an ally, or someone to tag along with and eventually betray. Interaction is the spirit of the game I feel, and even though I might not agree with a certain play-style or philosophy I can still find a way to take advantage of it. To be cliche, the journey is the fun part of the game. Every life in the game plays out a little bit differently, I like putting a bit of a light-roleplay spin on how I choose to handle situations. Not actually getting into character or anything, but establishing some parameters on how I interact with people. Keeps things fresh. All to often, my successful runs end with a shoot out . ..I get bored, I get restless, so I go seek a warrior's death in an area with lots of player traffic---To emphasize that there is really little do right now. There is no player vs. environment, there is no game world out to devour you in the sense that the game is very much incomplete. I'm sure when we have do deal with more survivalist elements and zombies that are more threatening that the social dynamics will get even more interesting.

I would like to see more civilian grade firearms myself. Hunting weapons, personal defense handguns, tools and power tools. Improvised weapons too! Clothing alternatives to all the military gear. I've always thought the M4/M16/weapons that share that same distinctive shape were ugly boring weapons. AK series and G36 and pretty much every assault rifle ever has a better aesthetic. >.>

But I like this community :c Sometimes I log into DayZ as a maniac. Other times I play friendly. Fun times are had either way.

I don't surrender anymore. Especially if the person asking me to surrender has a prepubescent or teenage voice. Not gonna be humiliated by some tasteless little consumerist subhuman! >.>

I don't know. I don't think I'd want anything a diseased corpse was carrying around with it. Especially if there was a risk of infection.

We live in a world where people Do not understand Blood Types

I've killed two bandits with my own blood so far. It's quite hilarious when someone demands your blood, then goes into shock and dies. >.> Take all their things, then head for the tree line! -
What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?

There should certainly be some sort of status before "Stuffed" so we know when we're about to reach our limits.

I think it would be pretty cool to raid the soda machines myself. Maybe some of the tool sheds. Things like that. Anywhere that there was people, or most places, will have had forced entries from the Zeds by looks of things, but some buildings being locked could be cool. You'd have to kind of look around to find a way in. Maybe even through a window, if you wanted to risk making the noise.

IDEA to end mindless KOS - psychological/physical consequences of murder
Rudette replied to roninhg's topic in Suggestions
If you want a similar experience I recommend the Frostfall and Realistic Needs + Diseases mods for Skyrim, it really gives you a sense that Skyrim is a harsh landscape that you have to be prepared for to survive. Trecking through the colder areas without camping gear, food and drink, and some warm furs will likely get you killed. Boiling your water..stuff like that..Very immersive, feels very "man vs wild" As for you ideas I don't think they are right for DayZ. If KoS is even to be addressed it should be after there is an environment trying to kill us. More Zombie density, better Zombie AI, Hordes. Disease. Hunger. Thirst. Hunting. Gathering. Crafting. Cold/Hypothermia. When these systems are all in place and dynamically trying to kill us, when zombie hordes gather around all the good loot -----Then people will have more to do than shoot each other. Really that's the problem right now, the environment isn't out to devour us. So we devour each other instead. KoS will probably level out some, but not completely. KoS is part of the fun in DayZ. Learn to play around it instead of against it. -
In Rust relief drops have this way of drawing players towards them, competition for the loot ensues. Some players run straight for it ready for a brawl, others run for it out of desperation---and then there are players who track people going too and from the drop site, hunting them. It creates a very competitive urgency to collect that loot, lots of neat dynamics there--especially in that it would give another thing to do, another goal to achieve with several angles to accomplish it. Though the idea of old relief drops that had never been scavenged, or weren't scavenged thoroughly is great too!
