To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

It can be improved.. It may slowdown ghosting and server hopping.. But it doesnt stop it.. It does work somewhat for now though. Think how it will be when base building and barricades are in play.. You will want something to stop people from logging into another server, moving 10 feet, logging back into your server and being inside your base. Only way I can think of to really fix this is on top of the current system. Have it so you randomly spawn elsewhere on the whole map for switching to a different server. Switch too much, too soon. You lose all your gear and only spawn at fresh spawn spots.
  2. Im liking it right now although you can still clear a military base, sit around for the timer and jump to another server and do it again, rinse and repeat.. Could be improved on to be made a little better to fix some other flaws that will be a issue with server hopping. But yeah, it works for what we have right now somewhat. Will see how I feel about it when barricades and base building and such comes in that someone will still be able to log out next to the barricade, jump to another server and move 10 feet. Come back into the original server and be on the other side of the barricade.. But yeah, bridge to cross when we get there.. Soon to be a issue like i said. Personally I think if you switch servers it should randomly put you somewhere else randomly on the whole map.. Do it too much too soon, and you become a fresh spawn.

The only way base building will workout

www.pcgamesn.com/dayz-creator-dean-hall-talks-humanity-barricades-damaged-weapons-and-all-sorts-other-stuff "Colonisation will be possible, enabling players to wipe out zombies from an area and make it their own base without zombies spawning in the area and ruining their work. In keeping with the realistic tone though, zombies will still be able to wander into the cleared areas and squat there. So if you’ve colonised an area, how do you keep the zombies out? Another question helped provide the answer: Will there be barricades? “We’re developing a system, it’s not 100% confirmed yet,” explained Hall “But you can gather resources from areas like trees and rocks and stones. You can also pick up items in the world with your hands, walk around with those items and drop them down. So you’ll be able to use those items to make barricades.” He made it clear that the system isn’t complete yet, but it’s definitely something they hope will make it into the game. Unfortunately barricades don’t extend to boarding up windows and doors; Hall said the idea of it made his lead artist “cringe”. " So yes to above ground bases(colonies even), no to boarded up windows and doors. My only issue would be, how do you stop someone from logging out next to your barricade, jump in another server and move 10 feet inward, log back into your server and be inside the barricade?

The only way base building will workout

Hmmm I need to find it.. But I do recall Rocket saying something about clearing out areas of zombies and colonizing in those places.. I would think that means above ground.
  5. Devs want something very subtle.. I wouldnt expect any kind of thing thats going to effect the players ability to play the game any different from the person who isnt a bandit or kos's. Also dont expect 'skins'.

How do you beat this? :(

    Ahh awesome

How do you beat this? :(

You wouldve probably broke his leg if the patch was in... Im pretty sure that was in the notes.. Gunshots and some melee may cause fractures.. To add... This is why I think that server hopping should as well on top of the concept being implemented, put you in a random spot anywhere on the map if you change servers... Do it too many times, you become a fresh spawn. As much as i dont mind the 30 seconds before logging out concept... If someone is trying to kill you from inside a building, you pretty much have to have it in mind that everytime they stop shooting, they could be starting their 30 seconds to log out that you have to rush their position instead of being strategic about it. Pretty much putting you at the short end of the stick.

What do we really want as far as zombies?

On top of having alot more zombies everywhere.. Zombies should be more than a nuisance.. A shot fired should attract alot.. Personally I would up the challenge of them as well by only letting them be killed by headshots. Will make you think about shooting or going alone.
  9. cels

What do we really want as far as Day/Night?

All I know is that I have never jumped into a almost full server yet and it was night time...They fix some lighting issues that might change. (flashlight illumination and so on)

    Stickies.

On top of this. Would help the dev team on every other topic as well since the sticky's would be the go to place to look for ideas and not just going page after page trying to gather all the ideas people has come up with.
  11. Most I saw was something from about a mid last year stating they want something alot more subtle as the skins were not liked. couple quotes from mid last year that somewhat relate to the topic. --"I think we need to do something quite different. Like blood appears on your hands when you're looting a body that's recently dead, that your face grimaces, things like that. I think we need to work with the community and come up with something." --"we'll be gathering a lot of data while people are playing, in the database, and then use that and then look at it. I think humanity needs to be a lot more subtle than it is now. And hopefully also with the introduction of this new antagonist--which is the environment, effectively, and your health--I think there's going to be a lot more reasons for people to interact. Not necessarily positively interact! But certainly neutrally." So seemingly theres plans for something(nothing easy to identify), but this is alpha so you wont see it for awhile.

Base Building - What would you like to see?

I believe I remember them saying at some point they want to do underground building actually. Might not be to the extent Radunas is hoping for though. To the topic though, I would like to build up in the trees.. Treehouses i guess. I recall from the mod that you can bash trees with a vehicle and knock them over so theres a danger in having a hut in a tree. Still would be pretty awesome.. Gather lumber, chop down other trees to build it and such.

The pleasure of a dead bandit

Im happy this didnt end with a combat log....

    sks mods wishlist

Personally not a fan of any silencer being in the game for any weapon.. Just makes avoiding zombies easier really and if you need alot of shots for trying to kill someone at long range that they have time to find out where youre at... well than you should be a better shot.... You want to be quiet? heres an axe.... Suggestions for attachments though... Bipod and bayonet(that works)

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

If private hives ever become a thing, most likely pve servers will be on those. (Depending how much control is given to those who start private hives). Outside of that.. Whats to stop someone from still messing with you on a "pve" server? If a guy hits you with his car would it not kill you? Would someone not be able to cause destruction to your base or anything you built, train zombies at you, many other things as well that isnt straight out just shooting you? If anything, you would just have people think up more creative ways to get around it being a "pve" server. If you think about it... This puts you(the pve player) as well at more of a disadvantage actually cause you wouldnt be able to do anything about the player causing issues without trying to get around the idea of a pve server yourself to stop that person.
  16. Just curious really. Not qqing about KoS and Bandits.. I enjoy doing it actually but find it very lacking and easy. Again, I play like a bandit.. I see someone with a gun I dont know already, most likely they will die or I will die trying to get them.. I have no issue with bandits or kos.. Its a part of the game.. A part that personally is a little too easy that I wish there was more to it that made it more intense and fun to do. Just wonder if there will ever be anything in place that would make it so your actions play more a role in how your character is? Like will there ever be something that really makes the friendly player really decide if he should shoot the other guy cause hes unsure of them considering it might in a way have a reaction to his character? Will the bandit be as open to run around killing knowing that theres more to it now then just shooting whoever? Likewise will there ever be anything for the player who doesnt go this route that brings a reaction to their character? I only ask is for like i said, It would be awesome to have more to being a bandit, its a bit easy, i want it more to make you have to think about taking that route. And i would still take that route personally cause it would just make it more intense! Now.. The reason I wonder this and maybe im interpretting it wrongly, but I saw Deans tweet in response to Richard Garriott (UO) in that he said "not many people go away from the route of WoW and EQ" and Dean replied that some of us do.. Now to me, seeing as Richard's design philosophy in making UO and such was somewhat based on virtues and how your decisions pretty much molded your character, I wondered if Dean meant by this that closer to stand alone, we might see more of our character actions actually molding our characters as well.. Or am i completely off and this whole post was a waste :P
  17. If this is intended towards me, thats cool. No one person is the same. Im not really looking for much personal opinion on a system on what it should be or if we should have something at all. Im looking for a answer to the question on if this still will be something part of the game come standalone. Obviously thats going to bring alot of opinion more so as we see. There are quotes around from mid of last year with plans on still going ahead with some kind of plan: --"I think we need to do something quite different. But certainly neutrally." Looking at these quotes from mid last year from Dean, they had plans of still going about some kind of plan. Im just wondering if theres anything recent that states this is still on the table or anything new on what they are thinking about. Apart from the tweet that made me question it all, https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/422217763130585088 ,I coudn't find anything else recent. Where a better place then to go to Dayz forums I thought to try and find a answer.
  18. I dont think its that bad. You really just need to make sure you are not near anything.. Would be more interesting to see how its implemented when you have a higher amount of zombies roaming around in and out of cities and towns. But again.. A quick 360 degree look and I would think you would see if a zombie would be in range, 30 seconds away from you and no one was following you. Really just have to see how it goes.
  19. Wasnt really trying to get into the whole what would be a good system.. Was really just wondering if there was plans to make something more out of the choices you make. Pretty much this tweet is why.. https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/422217763130585088 If you dont know who he was responding to, Richard Garriott created the Ultima series.
  20. I dont necessarily KoS myself unless the person has a gun in their hand. Id rather try and rob them of their backpacks and anything of theirs I can put in it. If you want to put a gun in your hand or run away while im tempting to do this... the outcome isnt pretty(sometimes for me as well). Rinse and repeat as the backpack becomes empty. Ill look at your link in a bit.
  21. Im not advocating any kind of insanity thingy or what not that effects your ability to actually play.. Nothing others would really notice either.. Just curious if something was thought about really by the devs.. Yeah I saw Rockets comment on the humanity system.. Wasnt a fan of that system either. Im going to guess this being said was sarcasm.

How I Play As A Bandit.

To each their own. Personally I'm a backpack bandit.. I dont run around with my own, I go for yours. If i see someone with no backpack I dont bother.. If they have a backpack but no gun armed(melee weapons are fine), ill try and rob them and take their backpack without killing them. If they try to run or arm a gun, ill shoot and take their backpack from their corpse as well as any food i can fill it with. Once im out of food and use of the backpack, I'll toss it away and look for my next backpack to rob. If you have a gun armed already and a backpack, you're pretty much dead and your backpack is mine. Sometimes this doesnt work out in my favor, but its fun.
  23. Yeah not saying anything like how you had the bandit skin and hero skin.. No one really should know who you are.. That the purpose of choosing to trust someone imo. And I dont kos much outside of the guy I see running around with a rifle in his hand.. as long as their hands are empty they are safe in my book :P The minute that gun gets armed though :P Shouldve put your hands up instead of arming heh. Sometimes it doesnt work out in my favor when that happens lmao. But yeah, just curious really. I try reading up on alot of whats being said but figure Im always missing something.
  24. Personally I dont think you should have a way to tell a person is a bandit or not. Thats the whole point on trying to decide if you should trust someone or not... I do though think their should be consequences to players actions though.. Something this game is definitely lacking..(understandable it is alpha, just looking at it moving forward) Let me start of by saying I do enjoy banditry as well as very willing to KOS. Thats never going to change... The one issue I do have with KOS is that it is too easy though and theres no real consequence in doing it.. Pretty much its a part of the game that I hope in the future has work put into to make it more something that brings more of a dynamic to it. Pretty much hoping that it will be something that puts myself on the line to worry more as well as the friendly player who also KoS's out of fear of being killed. I made a thread in the suggestions section. Sadly it seems that when it came to having a system it was looked as if I had issues with KoS in a negative way which I dont... What I have a issue with is theres not really a consequence for the decisions you make in this game.. It seems theres a stigma towards players that if you want to make KoS a challenge it means you dont like it.. Total opposite, I love it and want more involved into it. I want more to be involved with player killing and how it effects your player. I want it something that effects the friendly player as well as the bandit and the decisions they make to play that way. Right now theres no consequence for your actions which is kinda dull and a little too easy imo. My post in the suggestions section: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169480-ghostingserver-hopping-combat-loggingbandit-system-and-also-zombie-difficulty/
  25. Server hopping and ghosting: I would think the best way to solve this is make it a actual penalty to switch servers.. If you want to change servers, you should randomly spawn elsewhere from where you logged out from on your original(home) server. The possibility of where you would spawn should be the whole map. Server hop too much or be a fresh spawn already and you will spawn at one of the new character spawn points with no gear. This would also make base building less easy to spawn inside other peoples base. Obviously as well with this system, that after so much time on the current server you are in, the server would be considered your home server. With this, the number of how many times you can change servers before just being spawned at a new character spawn points again with no gear will reset. Should have a warning in place maybe as well to let you know a couple more server hops and you are spawning as a new character. **Obviously this is more so a idea for when items respawning is fixed.** Combat logging and Bandit system: One thing i could think of to add on top of another system for combat logging is that it is based on if you are a bandit or not. I guess you can call it the bandit system.. If you want to kill players, there should be a penalty in way that makes it so you dont log out immediately(even if no gunshots in the area). Only time the player killing penalty wouldnt apply is if you kill someone who is a bandit. I would also add a decay overtime effect that persists through death(sorta like UO). That the longer you go without killing someone, your bandit status decreases eventually to the point when you will no longer be considered a player killer. Would be nice also having this in place for the accidental player killing. **Keep in mind, The combat logging idea/bandit system above. Im saying this should be added on top of a system to make it so people cant combat log. Which personally im a fan of the gun shots fired in the area should keep you from logging out for 3 to 5 minutes. Gun shots keep going, your character doesnt log out.. You either run to get out of the area so your character can log out immediately, or fight back.** But not to base it just on gunshots. Add as well that if you are in the area of another player and tempt to log out. It should give a warning saying your character will not be logging out immediately. With the bandit system you would just get the warning saying you are a bandit and your character will not log out immediately (despite if someone is nearby or not). If your character is not a bandit, it will immediately log out if no one is around. -You could add, to bring more of a penalty to killing players and reward for not killing. Logging out while being friendly around other friendlies will log you out immediately. But if a bandit is near, it will not. Friendly near friendly with gunshots in the area will keep you still logged in as well- Also.. Zombie aggro, bleeding and injuries/sickness, and being held hostage/prisoner will keep you from logging your character out til a set amount of time. Lastly.. Zombie difficulty: Right now I think they are pretty much just a nuisance when really they should be very dangerous. The one way I believe this could be fixed is going back into the zombie genre and making it so that they can only be killed by headshots.. This will change gameplay quite drastically I would think come SA when theres alot more zombies in the area. Gunfire would be more of a last resort because of the number of zombies it will attract. Would also promote teamwork since going alone into a town will be a bit more difficult since zombies wont be as easy to kill. A person alone can quickly be in a bad situation if they attract alot zombies.. Could also be quite possible to make it a dangerous situation for a group of people. But yeah.. thats all the ideas I had.. Just think the game can be a bit more difficult really and have a little more consequence for your actions.
