The only part I don't like about the current timer is if you are in a situation where someone in a house is shooting you. Its like saying you have 30 seconds to rush the house instead of playing strategically everytime he stops shooting incase hes still trying to combat log. I think if you fired your weapon it should be a immediate 5 minute timer added to whats currently in place. Maybe have a timer in your character window that shows how much time is left before its just the normal 30 seconds to log out. Something like this maybe..

When Base Building Is Introduced, What Will You Build?
cels replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
One issue I want to see addressed and will also be what decides if I bother with building a base or not is server hopping... Whats to keep someone from logging out near the wall of my base, log into another server and move to where they would be inside my walls. At this point log back out and back into my server, being inside my base? If this will be possible I just dont see much reason to build a base to keep someone out.. Will just stick to hiding tents. This is also why I advocated that the better fix for server hopping for loot and ghosting would be that changing servers would randomly put you somewhere else on the whole map.. Changing too much in a short period of time would make you a fresh spawn on the beach. -
Neither view is hardcore.. Its preference.. Seems actually the majority of those who play on 1st person only is to get away from the 3rd person view advantage.. Considering it can be fixed so 3rd person wouldnt have a advantage, Im sure the 1st person only servers would be much more underpopulated than even now if they did fix it which is possible.. I prefer both views, as why I dont play 1st person only servers and never will unless im in the mood to run around cherno or elektro and such... In my opinion this is also how alot of people feel as why the 1st person only servers are underpopulated and probably always will be. Ill deal with the fact that I have to take in account for people possibly looking over the wall at me whenever im in a town.. I also prefer that they fix 3rd person view so you cant see whats on the otherside of walls and around corners...Which it can be fixed without just taking away 3rd person view.. 2017 mod shows this is possible.. Ill probably end up playing that mod alot because of it.

[Discussion] What is needed to make hardcore, properly hardcore?
cels replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
I would personally like it if infected were so hard that as they start getting to be more than a few attracted to you, it made you have to run away instead of staying and fighting.. The only way I see this to be accomplished is making them headshot only kills.. This on top of any normal jumps in difficulty already planned to make the infected more than a nuisance on servers as is right now.. I also think the perimeter that they hear and are attracted to gunfire would be from much farther away... (ex. zombie in the center of Cherno, gun shots from as far as 500-650m would attract them. Or.. whatever is the actual distance each of the firearms can be heard from.) There should be situations with the infected that are so bad that your only choice is to run.. Even if you have a full 60 mag on a m4a1. No silencers as well. -
Not everyone likes playing in 1st person view the whole time.. Dean himself has even stated that he switches between first and third person a lot more in the standalone.. And personally.. I don't find 1st person to be considered "hardcore" when the biggest thing about 1st person is its ability to break this issue.. Its why I enjoy playing 1st person servers mainly when I feel like running around Cherno and such. Your choice in view is more so immersion, it doesnt fix a issue.. The major thing 1st person does is stop the wall exploiting, outside of that its just preference to your view.. People can call it what they want but to me its exploiting and can be fixed as shown above.. They had this suggestion before they even went with deciding to split the servers before between 1st person and 3rd person servers and its something people obviously still want so no, just saying go to 1st person servers doesn't solve the problem.. If i have to choose between playing only in first person or dealing with people looking over walls in third person.. IF they dont want to take this suggestion.. Ill end up still playing on servers that allows third person cause I enjoy switching between views.. Really ill just end up playing on the guys mod that fixes this issue already and not even bother. Hell.. Fix it so you cant exploit third person and add it to whats defined as "hardcore" servers.. Im sure you will see alot more people start playing hardcore since its not just first person view.
-
I dont consider the idea of hardcore being view preference.. You should be asking "Why is 1st person only servers so underpopulated?" And to me, thats because people dont like playing in just 1st person. To those like me who enjoy both first and third person view. We deal with that fact that people abuse the third person view advantage. Hate it completely that its possible, but I enjoy being able to switch between views and rather not have to play in just 1st person to get away from it. More so when its really only a issue with 3rd person when i'm in a town. This abuse of third person view seems to be one of the bigger reasons people choose 1st person servers.. Others do it cause they do enjoy that perception of play. I hope they fix third person since it can be fixed.. 2017 mod shows this.. I think once more aspects of what defines "hardcore" is brought to hardcore servers.. They will still be underpopulated because some people just dont care to play in just first person. This will probably end up being a issue(only 1st person) and negatively effect amount of hardcore servers you see(maybe). I would place a bet.. That if hardcore was actually both 1st and 3rd person view(with the exploit fixed so you dont have the view advantage).. You would see alot more people on "hardcore" servers, ALOT more. To me, "hardcore" shouldnt of been defined by view. Less ammo, head shots only kill zombies, no silencers.. so on and such. Thats what makes a server hardcore.. Making it just first person was just a easier fix to the third person issue, one that's probably going to hurt the numbers who play on hardcore as we see already. More things should be brought to the idea of what a hardcore server is that isnt preference to view.. But for that to happen. Third person needs to be fixed. Then you will see a jump in hardcore servers. Another video of a third person fix.

I would like it if you dont have a backpack on, you can carry a bike. Maybe, considering im sure it would be carried over the shoulder.. You would have to drop the bike before being able to shoot and such.
-
Seeing as someone is actually fixing 3rd person so you cant have that advantage in a mod so you cant see over things and such, I would hope this can get brought over to standalone or something similar to it. Heres another vid. I like being able to switch between 3rd and 1st.. Dont care for the fact that you can look over things with the camera though and see people, zombies normally not in LoS.
-
Theres a mod(2017) that made it so 3rd person cant be abused(or used) like this... Pretty much it wont let you see people or zombies unless your character would be able to see it in 1st person. Im hoping this comes to standalone cause i enjoy normal servers for all aspects besides the ability to peak over walls and such. http://youtu.be/g0fWg1UkGP8?t=14m7s If a mod can pull this off I hope they can as well in SA.
-
So just curious.. Is most if not all the negativity towards 3rd person pretty much because how it can be abused?
-
Starting at 14:10... This definitely needs to come to dayz for normal servers or ill just end up playing on private hives that support this once private hives and modding is allowed.

Why doesnt Bohemia just make it so if its not in line of sight you cant see it? Someone posted a video before of a modder working on this where people, zombies, anything thats not a permanent structure or part of the landscape cannot be seen if its not in LoS.. If they can get it done in a mod, I would think a game company as big as BI could pull it off as well.. I enjoy playing DayZ with having third person(i play 1st person as well if i feel like screwing around electro and such)... and not for what seems to be common of the peoples opinion in this thread and elsewhere that the reasoning is to see over walls and such to have a advantage over someone running by.. To me making "hardcore" just first person is a cheap fix(understandable that it will be more than this in the future)... Theres alot better things i believe would make hardcore servers more to the idea of being hardcore that isnt just view.. From what it sounds like, unless devs for the SA give any word on it, ill soon just be waiting for modded servers to be allowed and will just be playing on the ones that implement this tech since it is being worked on already by modders for the arma2 dayz mod. Then ill still have my third person as well as no over the wall and such out of LoS advantages.

Very true! Gates as well.. Strafing back and forth trying to get the exact spot for the icon to pop up to open them.. GAH!Also as well.... Not sure how many times I FINALLY get the gate open up at Green Mountain only for it to trap me between the fence and the wall -.-

Maybe its the way that I play... But I rarely ever run into anyone in a town that it doesnt make much difference if im in first person or third...Usually the people I only ever see is out in the forests or fields running between towns. I play on both normal and hardcore servers.. Dont mind either really but personally lean more towards normal... Enjoy normal because it gives me a better sense of my surroundings.. Call it cheating or whatever, dont give it shit.. I dont run in cities really that it doesnt make much of a difference to me if people can look over walls and what not.. Played that way in the mod and im playing that way now.. That and I like seeing my character for some reason.. In the the mod, I dont think I wouldve ever found perfect places to hide my tents to be completely unviewable without 3rd person and such. Im sure base building is going to be just as difficult on hardcore servers to place things correctly the way i want it. I would like it still if Dayz devs went with the idea of making things not visible if it isnt in line of sight so looking over walls and such with the camera view doesnt let you see anything besides the landscape.. If they can do it in a mod I dont see why Bohemia couldnt do it... Probably the only reason I play hardcore servers atm is if I feel like running around electro and such. Outside of that i dont see much of whats great about hardcore servers at the moment. I kinda wish there was more to hardcore besides taking away third person. Making it things like zombies being harder(only headshots), death being easier, no silencers(suck it up and shoot better), no zooming view in first person. Hell, give third person back to hardcore maybe even, they SHOULD be able to make things not viewable if its not in line of sight in both normal and hardcore. Personally though, I dont think anyone can really be sure why hardcore servers are empty and its all just opinion.. I wonder why night time servers are empty as well but that would all just be opinion too.. To add, one thing that annoys me in both normal and hardcore servers is trying to loot items thats right in front of your face... That needs to be fixed

Backpack bandit.. I run around without a backpack til I find a person with one... If you have a gun in your hand, most likely i will KOS and take your backpack.. If you dont have a gun in your hand, I will tempt taking it without deadly force. If you run, or try and arm a weapon, I will KoS. Once I have your backpack, I will keep it til I use up whatever supplies is in the bag. Once empty, I will drop the backpack and begin my search for the next backpack to take from someone. Edit: Just noticed the red lettered sentence in OP was a link to a quiz o.o 76% survivor 35% hero 35% bandit 0% Kos'er

Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
cels replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Same here... i do it now and will do it even if they add something.. I find it pretty easy though actually atm so i hope whatever they decide is something pretty cool.. Im sure it will still be pretty easy, but at least theres something more to it... -

cels replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Something is coming at some point most likely... Looking at other comments made from people on the dev team, I wouldnt expect anything that will effect your ability to play the game normally with whichever decision you make in killing someone. "Bohemia has also said that it is trying to figure out ways to humanize players more, to add real weight to the idea of killing another person." http://www.edge-online.com/features/how-player-interaction-makes-dayz-a-fascinating-social-experiment/ -
Currently why not when it has no bearing on my character?.. Not so much meaning that it should change my ability to play or that i should have a bandit skin for doing so. More so cause theres nothing that reflects what kind of character im playing making you have to decide that this is the route im going to take. (to add, i would be a bandit still if what i said above was possible) So as is now.. If you have a weapon in your hands(not a melee weapon) and I see you, plan to be killed. If you dont have a weapon in your hands you are not a threat to me yet.

A new idea to stop the "kill-on-sight" mentality
cels replied to Beetlejuice (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well that was based on your thread title, you should change your thread title to be more fitting to your topic. Like 'Idea about skills' As far as your topic, Dean spoke about skills at some point and cant remember what he said but im looking for it..... ...and found it.. any kind of skill or learning he said would be more based on learning as you go. So basically do it alot and you get better at it. -

cels replied to Beetlejuice (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
KoS is something you will never stop, if people wish to play that way, they will.. The only thing I can offer as far as any info is that Devs are looking at suggestions for things that will make people put more thought into the decisions they make though without affecting gameplay for deciding which way you play. (And no not skins for being good or bad) -
To add, what I would like to see done to compliment base building is make it so you cant log out next to a base, log in another server and move 10 feet over. Log out and back into my server and be inside my base.. Fix this.

Im trusting... Til i get a can opener, then its KoS for all of you.. damn bean spilling j/k

POLL Should The Timeout Timer be Increased, Untouched, Reduced or Removed?
cels replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Yeah that would work if the private hive is a single server.. Otherwise you still have the same issue. This would fix all the servers. -
POLL Should The Timeout Timer be Increased, Untouched, Reduced or Removed?
cels replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I like the direction its going in but also think they need to add to it when barricades and base building is implemented.. Which understandable its alpha and its a working progress. Just giving a heads up that people logging out next to a base, hopping on another server and moving 10 feet over, then logging back in to your server, putting them inside your barricades and base. Its going to cause issues if this is possible. Only way I think this issue could be fixed in the future is on top of the current ghosting/server hopping fix. They will also need to make it so changing to a different server spawns you elsewhere on the map. Change servers too many times too soon and you lose all your gear and you are spawned at starter spawn points. Obviously this should be a fix more so when item respawns are back in that changing servers so much should not be necessary. Would also stop people from just waiting out the timeout timer so they can just server hop to sit at miliary sites on multiple servers to loot them.
