1. A minor exploit worth living with. If you stand in front of a cliff, don't be surprised if a breeze carries you off it. 2. Well shoot, if a hacker could exploit it to harm people on a PVP server, then by all means, cancel any thought on PVE!!!! Oh, those guns that could be exploited by a hacker, let's go ahead and cancel guns. Vehicles exploited by hacker? Get rid of those. Just eliminate anything that could be exploited by a hacker. Oh, no game left. Really, that's a non argument there. 3. Sorry, not true. In terms of programming, having no friendly fire (make all players 'friendly') is one of the easiest things there is.

Why does everything get ruined when you get shot?
KerrSG1 replied to Zjasuu's topic in General Discussion
That sounds positively awful. Unless you get shot in the foot, your boots shouldn't degrade. Unless you get shot in the leg, your pants shouldn't degrade. Etc. One or two random item degrades would be one thing, but everything degrade? That's just bad programming. -
Fair enough question, no friendly fire. No gun or weapon can harm another player. Players can still be damaged by the elements, falls, disease, hunger, thirst, animals, zombies, etc. But no other player can harm another player. PVE.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
KerrSG1 replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
Whoops, sorry for the double post. I like the idea too, something needs to be done about KOS issues and I just find it unfortunate that the creator doesn't play on public servers so he can get the 'experience' that the rest of us get dealing with the worst examples of humanity from the internet. -

The guy doesn't play on any public servers? That explains a bit then on development decisions. When you can prevent the general internet douche bags from ruining your play time, then you have no problem. -
Absolutely, but in order for it to be setup that way, we would need the developer to provide the tool to enable PVE on a server that we could pay for.
-
Some people against it, but with no real cause as to why it should not be implemented. Your side really seems to come down to what is an 'elitist' argument, that this game isn't for people who 'just can't handle it' or something like that. Well sorry, but you still failed to demonstrate why PVE and PVP servers can't exist. You could still keep your 'elitist' position by saying you only play on PVP servers. The game makers get more sales by a broader base. Everyone wins.
-
Absolutely, but a million copies in a world of 7 billion is a drop in the bucket. Increased sales come from increased player base. PVE would capture the entire spectrum of players interested.
-
I pointed out before, this is still a business. This isn't a 'mod' of a game people have already bought. The purpose is sales, you must make a profit to keep a game going and develop it. The reputation this game is already getting is going to reduce it's sales and keep people interested in more than griefing from it. The proof is in the rampant complaints of KOS and other behavior, and people not wanting to play the game with the kind of people who are ruining the game for others.
-
It 'sucks the meaning out' to you. Not everyone. Not everyone wants to play the way you do, and no one is suggesting you be forced the play the way they want you to play.
-
And I pointed out 'nice people' are already leaving the game because of the griefing and KOS of the game as is. PVE would allow them to stay, and there would likely be inevitable cross over as people play on PVP as well, but would rather stick to PVE on the whole.
-
Again, how does it harm you to have PVP and PVE servers? It's insignificant coding, it's a switch flipped essentially, and it broadens the game player base and their sales. Hell, I wouldn't mind playing PVP servers occasionally, but I'd rather invest more time in PVE servers than deal with the typical internet chaff that go to an open PVP server. As for Rocket, his mind can be changed.
-
Again, no one is able to provide one valid coherent argument how allowing PVE servers will impact their PVP game. Except to call people a 'babby'
-
Except this 'maniac' didn't ruin another person's enjoyment of the game. Big difference between this and KOS, though I understand what you mean by the player being bored.
-
Hate to break it to you, but dealing with those douche bags is causing people to leave the game already, except there are no true PVE servers to go to. At least if there were PVE servers you would know you could go there, and if you wanted to deal with the aggravation of douche bags, you could go to PVP. Also, this is a game, which above all else is supposed to be entertaining. It isn't real life.
-
That's based on your interpretation of how this game is supposed to be played. Others feel differently. Would it harm your game play on a PVP server at all for with other people doing that on a PVE server? Also, your concern is flawed regarding loot. Loot is not a finite resource. It respawns, the server restarting creates more. There is no true 'scarcity' of supplies. The only true way to make that kind of thing scarce would be to have a one time spawn of supplies and then never again. A can on a shelf doesn't appear after I checked there last time, it's either there to begin with or it will never be there in the future.
-
Oh my god that is hilarious. If that was more the interaction in Day Z now instead of just being shot in the back by a sniper then it'd be more enjoyable overall.
-
Love the Walking Dead, but the problem with the comparison is after they put a bullet in the head of The Governor he's not going to respawn and continue to be a douche bag. The same would be in real life if someone like that was murdering people, once put down they're gone, they don't get to come back and continue to grief.
-
Is that knowledge lost at every respawn and you have to start learning it all over again?
-
Dude. It's Alpha. This isn't even the actual full game yet.
-
Increased sales. They are a business after all.
-
Again, no one has provided one coherent single argument how allowing PVE only servers will affect THEM if they want to stay on PVP servers. None. It's just 'I'm offended' Well, tough. You aren't free from being offended. There is no protection or guarantee no one will ever offend you. Get over it. Secondly, people keep saying how the goal is for everyone to be geared up at start with servers that give you fully kitted M4s. Who said that? No one. There are still environmental factors, disease, food/water and zombies to worry about. The zombies will become more numerous and more dangerous as time goes on, so there will be increasing PVE threat as times goes on. Is there much threat now if a server was PVE? No, but so what? You still aren't being forced onto something you don't want to play. Lastly, this quote is most telling: There's just two dudes standing around, weighted down by their backpacks full of the best gear with nothing to use it for. This should tell you exactly what this player's mindset is. "Get gear because the only purpose is to kill other players." It should be clear now exactly what this player believes, that this game is designed and meant only to be a people killer in game, that there is no other purpose for anything in the game. Bravo for outing yourself.
-
As much as it hurts you, yes it would be. The very fact it bothers you so much the thought of people playing PVE is really astounding. But hey, if that makes you happy, you can stick to a PVP server and you'll never be worse for the wear.
