An interesting discussion based on this speech
helcol replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
@abentwookie, I have watched the mist, the end made my sister 'rage quit'. When she saw what happened, she stood up silently, went to her room, and slammed it shut. The video does show the evil side of humanity and it could explain some of the interactions that happens in Dayz. Good post! -

good insight, I never thought of it from that perspective. -
the space bar could easily allow for a different melee attack depending on which weapon is being used

Adding to the night vision discussion, how about making it so if a player wearing NV looks strait at either a flare lighting or a flashlight for too long they will become disoriented, have lowered accuracy, and can't see sh!t. This could allow players who have a flare/flashlight, to shine it onto the hillside to blind possible NV users. Also, make it so that the beams of a flashlight are visible. Cherno/Elektro would look like "20th century fox" logo. It would be AWWWWWWWWWWWESOME!

How Much Time Has Passed Since The "outbreak" Happened?

This explains E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G that is happening in Dayz. I mean EVERYTHING! -
Current player spawns (remote far south east corner of the map) are too remote and boring.
helcol replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
I disagree, survival is fighting to live through whatever you find when you spawn in. Increase variety of guns/ammo but decrease the amount of guns/ammo entirely. I feel you only get enjoyment by grabbing a gun and shooting people without a gun, try talking to the people/ hold them up. It leads to a lot more interesting things. -
Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
helcol replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
C'mon, was that really necessarry. I can see where the OP is comming from. I disagree on the safezones because there are no such things as a 'safe' zone in any survival situation. It would only make sense to have players interact with other players rather than npc's, The concept has been done and has not worked (I don't think it'll ever work). Seriously, the word "carebear" is a word that is stereotypical in nature and targets people who are pushing for more player interaction. The lack of explanation and the use of sarcasm implies that you are narrow minded. Try to reply in a respectful manner next time. -
This logout system seriously needs to be deleted
helcol replied to dokibaxxi's topic in General Discussion
The combat logging needs to stop, I don't mind the wait. It lets me take a moment to look outside every once in a while. SEE THE SUN! [Edit] The system does need work, but for now this'll work to deter future combat loggers. -

OP, have you ever heard of the game Nether? There's your reason as to why I hate SZ's in a survival game. period. -
More Effective, Less Frustrating, Hopper/Logger Solution
helcol replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
I still see that as an exploitable use, people using it to combat log easier (and join on the same server away from combat) offering an opportunity for ghosting. The best fix in my eyes is to have it so people who legitimately leave the game using the exit button and will wait for ~30 seconds-ish (want a WoW style timer that CAN NOT be cancel able) and people who alt-f4 will have their char standing there for about 2 minutes doing an animation that shows that they combat logged. Also, you can't activate the exit key until you are in the forest. Ultimately, these are the problems that need to be discussed. As to the OP, don't pretend to retain a sense of honor when you preform the despicable art of exploiting the game. Let us be honest, you are not 'testing' server hopping because testing implies that it will be part of the official release. news flash: IT WILL NOT! -
hypocrite loot farmers, why do you whine about "hoppers"
helcol replied to mssing's topic in General Discussion
That was my reaction to your post initially.. I mean really...you admitted to breaking server hosting rules. GJ  inb4 lok <--- (Google it) -
I decided to play Dayz on a high pop. server to have a good time with player interaction, As I spawn on the coast, I attempt to run inland to get some supplies. Before I can even reach the barn, a fully kitted man told me to get on the ground. "Any last words" he told me. "Have fun wasting all your ammo" I replied knowing he was telling me to get on the ground to get a good shot. After a mosin report, before I respawned, he said, "Nah, I have enough ammo to start WW3" This is a problem in my eyes, I knew he was telling the truth, he probably did have enough ammo to kill, theoretically, 50 other fresh spawns like me. Right now, on my current life, I have way too much stock piled ammo, I am almost fully kitted out, and I have no food/water problem whatsoever. If I suddenly wanted to go kill fresh spawns on the coast (which I would not do), I would definitely have enough ammo to kill, theoretically, at least 50 too (2 bullets for 1 player). The abundance of ammo in Dayz doesn't show the supposed "scarcity" that results from a zombie apocalypse. I think the influx of 7.62 ammo in the game is due to the fact that the SKS has been added, but the amount of ammo I find for 7.62 is absolutely ridiculous! It is way to common. What do you guys think?

Mosin + Prone position + Bipod deployed + Hold breath -> strong jitter after some recent patch
helcol replied to Ovomaltine's topic in General Discussion
I don't see any jitter... oh wait, my video froze . -
I could not tell his intentions before it was too late. I usually rob people when I have the jump. It is much riskier and it also adds some RP to the act of banditry. I once robbed a man with an empty gun. I also don't kill unless provoked. But that is just how I sometimes choose to play... I love Dayz for giving me the choice on what to do in a certain scenario.

more like 40+ percent. There are a surprising amount of friendly players on Dayz, you can be helped by 2 friendly players and then get killed by one A%^ hole! Who are you going to remember? Also there is a forum post testing out how friendly players are. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/167477-i-conduct-social-experiements-on-dayz-players/ the results are surprising!

Are you good at finding players from gun sounds?
helcol replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
My god this is a problem: This one time, I grouped up with two random survivors, we were looting Electro and then I realized I was getting dammaged. A bandit with an M4A1 (no silencer) tried unloading an entire clip into me from the hillside and only hit me once. I never heard a scent of a shot and he also failed to even kill me... until I tried to sneak up on him, taking out my FNX-45, I aim *CLICK* guns fucking ruined. Guy turns around, chuckles, and proceeds to dome me. (I heard the shot this time). I am so smrt! -
You changed the original context of his quote, destroying the value of quoting, and you are implying that I, and others like myself, server hop to find guns/ammo, I play Dayz legitimately and I still find way to much 7.62 ammo. People who server hop are like reckless drivers, they think they are saving a minute when they preform their actions, but end up leaving everyone waiting because of their actions...
-
I just think that their is way to much 7.62, I would propose to remove the box and make it in piles of 5 ammo rather than boxes of 20...or is there a better idea out there? Also, I believe finding a cartridge, gunpowder, primer, and an ammo making kit should allow the player to create ammo (but only when, or if, the ammo becomes as scarce as food in an already looted town.

an even easier way to tell the server hoppers from legitimate players. Whoever gets the achievement is most likely a server hopper!

Since they have implemented paper, interesting things have been put on paper, However, I propose we take it a couple steps further: 1. tape paper to wall using duct tape 2. Put a giant arrow, symbol, or emote face on the paper visible when not looking at the paper in inventory. 3. cannot erase misspelled words, when you type, Ex: to be claear, this si and examle, it will appear as is, crossed out words will show in pen as you cannot erase in pen. whatever you type will stay, even if it is a mistype. Crossing it out, like this, or censoring it, is up to the player. 4. Crumbling up paper, players should have the option to crumble up paper, use it for fire, or just use it as a distraction for zed/players (would be really funny to peg someone in the head with a note, they open it up to read it. "don't move or you are dead" or "I'll give you a ten second head start.". 5. distinct pen/pencil behavior: pen cannot erase (depending on the condition of the pen, will determine the pen smear size or amount of ink), pencil can (depending on the condition of the pencil, will determine the eraser mark size) 6. can sneak up behind people on hardcore servers and put a note on their back. (kick me) 7. picking up paper can give an EXTREMELY small risk of getting a paper cut. (something >1% chance) These are just suggestions, I realize most of them won't be possible, but it should be food for thought. If you have anything to add or want to give me constructive criticism, don't be afraid...post below! tl;dr - more paper uses.

Things that should be done in the future regarding paper.

could be the same as #4, that would be awesome! -
This has been a debate since the mod, it is still going on for the SA, and I feel nobody has had this viewpoint regarding the issue on the forums: We have on one extreme the people who KOS, feel it is the best part of Dayz, do it to whoever, whenever, and have no remorse for the lives they took...and we have the Friendly players who tend to group up with others, love player interaction, and typically don't kill except in self defense. (This is, by far, not the only play styles in Dayz, but they are the ones that create a ruckus on the forums most of the time). I HAVE played both play styles, personally I prefer being more the hero type because I find it more rewarding then the bandit play style (if there is a bias, keep in mind where I am coming from). However, I feel both sides are equally enjoyable and people should try one side before having an opinion on it. This is how I feel about KOS: I have no problem with it being in this game, frankly I'm actually glad for it because it makes player interaction that much scarier. Yea, it is unfair to have a guy with a mosin walk up to you and shoot you without even a hello. This is the problem how I see it, Many people resort to this game style when the game has very little content, the amount of KOS in the SA has dropped considerably because they have added many other ways of killing people (force feed, disinfectant, etc.), loot becomes ruined from shooting people, and guns/ammo are much rarer than in the mod. I was an active member on the Nether forums and the biggest problem in that game is it is actually a death match game rather than survival (practically 100% KOS + SZ campers = ). Dayz is nowhere close to that at the moment. If KOS becomes the majority of player's play style, then it makes one fun element of the game, player interaction, near to impossible, for those who crave it and would ruin the game. There needs to be a balance to make it so that KOS happens, yes, but not so often that this game becomes more about the killing rather than the surviving. As for those who love that friendly game play, I feel the majority of people who rage on the forums do not realize that they might be dying because of what they are doing. If you yell "friendly", it does not put an invisible shield up that should protect you from said player. Also, I feel some of you run head on into a situation and do not take the time to analyse the player's behavior to see whether or not the player is friendly. Try to be a little more cautious when approaching other players. And complaining that KOS always happens is a false accusation at this very moment. I have grouped up successfully more often then I have been KOS'ed/Back stabbed on the SA. Friendly players have to understand that the thrill in player interaction comes from not knowing what will happen to the group. (ex: will bandits kill you, will a fresh spawn with an FNX in his pants pocket mow you down, who can you conditionally trust?, etc.) As for the forum posters who support either one side or the other, please be respectful of each other's play style's. The beauty of Dayz is that everyone has their own goals, their own motives, and also their own play style. Saying that one side is completely right or completely wrong is just ignorant to how important one side is to the other. I feel we need to understand each other's play style rather than blatantly criticize and insult each other. don't let ethnocentrism get in the way! If you have any more questions, want to add/critique my opinion, or talk about your opinion, please do so in an ethical manner...that is all I ask. :) P.S- Used the search function, I did not find a post that described this view on the topic + the majority of them become arguments rather than constructive criticism...sadly
