Just invited a few friends to come play with me the last few days.

I don't KOS. Half the time I'm sort of stalking someone, some noobs will sneak up behind me and catch me off guard. I'm terrible at spotting people, and even worse at situational awareness. I would love to KOS, but I'm mostly getting KOSed. I'd love to actually shoot someone for once. I never shoot at new spawns, and each time I run into someone I end up being friendly because I'm Canadian and it's in my stupid DNA. Last time I ran into a group of fresh spawns, I gave them most of my food and drinks, not even 1 minute later while I was topping myself off at a well I got shot by someone peeking around corner. I get why people KOS, that's all. Can't blame them at all. -

If you're getting killed 9 times out of 10, you'd imagine you'd learn to shoot first. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you're not killing on sight, you're just collecting gear for the guy who will. PVP is the only actual excitement in the game right now. If nobody ever shot at me, I would have got bored of the game after 2hrs. -
could have been sniped also by someone else. I was in balota recently, on a nearly empty server, and all of a sudden "YOU ARE DEAD". Didn't hear anything, didn't see anyone.

DayZ should always be about survival...
Scofflaw replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
There is a player economy. People kill each other and steal the loot. -
You've obviously never played inebriated.
-
Some things I learned : -Ignore zombies unless they follow you into buildings. -Only use your melee weapon on zombies, otherwise you attract any nearby players and they might think you're a hostile player. -Only pick up the firefighter axe. Anything less is like trying to kill with a wet noodle. Don't even bother. -Don't think nobody can see you if you lay in tall grass. It doesn't render from far, and you'll be visible to everyone.

People used to put a bag full of stuff into a bag full of stuff into a bag full of stuff... Nothing like going 5 layers deep into inception to find a stupid can opener.
-
Most people I know who worked as game testers wouldn't consider themselves lucky. Playing the same thing 8 hours a day, going through the same menus/options sounds more like a curse than a blessing.

Time to join an empty server, stuff myself with rice, and alt-tab while in the woods.

I shot someone in the back at NE airport, and decided to split. As I was running away, I was getting shot at with an M4. I could hear it as though it was fairly close, but couldn't find the player. I survived a good 45 seconds while running away, but he kept shooting at me. I could not for the life of me spot him, or even get a direction. Hard to say if he was invisible, or if in my panic I just didn't spot him. I was basically getting shot at point blank range, but couldn't see the guy. Probably a lack of skill, but I'd rather blame a bug..

will survival aspect of the game get better!?!?
Scofflaw replied to sondoor's topic in New Player Discussion
Loot is fairly broken right now, so it's hard to say what should be different. If servers don't restart often, you won't find any food anywhere near the coast. Servers that restart often tend to have too much loot. There really isn't a way for it to be balanced with the current system. The survival aspect of the game is what you make of it. Without a huge amount of effort, you can be fully fed/hydrated, and have all kinds of guns and ammo. If your goal is simply to survive, you can go live alone in the woods for near unlimited amounts of time. The PVP aspect is what makes it scary. Even if the zombies were more challenging, they wouldn't make your heart race like getting shot at by a player. I don't think a balance between pvp/pve will ever happen by design, but the whole fun of the game is that it is what you make of it. Sometimes I role play a bit, sometimes I go help fresh spawns, sometimes I shoot people in the back, you can do what you want. Want a challenge? Go in a big city on a 40 player server, see how long you can last. -
Hey everyone, pay attention to me!

hah! So, it's not a REAL zombie simulator...

I need a sponsor for the Dayz 50k marathon!

What if we get you a pack of rice and a full canteen, and see how far you can run without getting bored? I got totally lost two nights ago (booze + navigating using the sun = bad), and I just spent 2 hours trying to find out where I was. -
I found one, and I'm going to parrot what was already said : + Quiet. You can't even hear it. I thought maybe the sound lagged, but you can't hear it at all. Really a big plus if it didn't attract zombies. + Seems fairly accurate, I ditched it before doing further tests, but I was able to hit stuff pretty well. I would like to test this further. + The iron sights look nice. Very clear. - No damage. It took me two chest shots minimum to put down a zombie. It's really bad. I'm not a gun expert at all, never even held one, but I thought even a .22 could be lethal. This is based from my 5 minutes of youtube research, so whatever.

The first few times I played, I thought "this game actually sucks", just because I joined servers that hadn't reset in a while, and all I could find were rotten fruits. Sometimes you win, sometimes not.
-
No it doesn't.

If you're not killing on sight, you're just collecting gear for the guy who does.

I shot a guy point blank twice with a sawed off, don't think I hit him once, he then killed me. Maybe there are blanks. :)

later in the future, will there be actual PVE servers?
Scofflaw replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Where's the challenge in pve? Zombies would have to be a lot tougher to get any kind of enjoyment out of pve. With a fire axe and a bag of rice, you can last for a good couple of hours with no challenge. -
Can anyone tell me, how many shots it takes with each weapon?
Scofflaw replied to zor_prime1's topic in New Player Discussion
Mosin is one shot kills from my experience. I one-shot people with the fire axe also. -
I think you misunderstand the purpose of an alpha. Not providing any feedback during alpha makes the whole thing sort of pointless. Don't like KOS? Get off the coast.
-
You sound like a hacky comedian from the 90s.

I've got about 100hrs so far, and I've killed probably 5-6 people. Even on 40 player servers I rarely run into people. First guy I killed was trying to fight off like 3 zombies with a crowbar, and I shot him in the back with my pistol. Felt bad. Now I just snipe people from >500m away.
