major bugs and glitches that should have priority over other things.
omgitzgnar replied to blackmauser95's topic in General Discussion
This game has made more than enough to hire an army of programmers, but still they decide content is more valuable than stability. personally, if they were to patch even ONE bug, and release it EVERY wednesday, i'm sure the majority of people would be happy. instead we have to wait months on end just to have content (that isn't really even needed ATM) added to the still broken game. I mean, ooooooohhhh physics system! that's niice! [sarcasm] too bad we don't have any means of storing items over long term periods... if only there were a...hmm... deployable item maybe? that you could stash somewhere? hmm... i don't think anything exists like that in anything ever related to dayz. Seriously though, with all of the copy-pasted content from arma 2/3, you think a simple tent would be fairly easy. I mean seriously, dayz, i love you, but you're dying. /endrant -
You may want to look at your firewall, both router and windows. try temporarily shutting off the Windows firewall, and combine that with adding the ports to the forwarding list on your router, see if that helps anything. There's plenty of guides you can find to show you how to do it.

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
omgitzgnar replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
If private hives were implemented, they would have no server to "Hop" to, since the only gear they would have, is gear they acquired on that specific server. That's what a private hive is, essentially a separate database. So, separate database, separate character. Like switching between Hardcore and Regular servers, but server specific, instead of difficulty. -
Huge internet lag/desync on slow internet
omgitzgnar replied to dicamarques's topic in Troubleshooting
Dayz requires far more network communication than wasteland for example. If wasteland had shitloads of ai wandering the map, and well, doing everything that the zombies do, plus all of the loot, it would be different. The server architecture for dayz is different than any of the other arma mods, especially SA, almost everything in game is handled server-side, which requires the client to communicate, more and rapidly with the server. it's not a problem with netcode optimization, it's a problem with the internet speed. -
i would start with disabling any launch parameters you have on the properties, closing and re-launching steam, and if that doesn't work, verify integrity of game files. if THAT doesn't work, delete and re-download it. :(

are you using Push-to-talk? you may want to go Voice activated. My buddy used to have this issue as well. hmm... and if you have it, disable the ACRE mod for teamspeak as well.

close steam all the way, and launch/login again. i had this error last night, there was a steam update i've been cancelling. After i downloaded it, it ran fine.

A bright pixel sky & only silhouette, at night
omgitzgnar replied to GlutenFreeman's topic in Troubleshooting
That's about how night time works on DayZ. For the best gamma trick results, clouds should be on any setting other than disabled, shadows, off and HDR on low, gamma and brightness all the way up, and it's about as good as you'll get. if the moon is out on the game, it will be like a black and white movie. if not, a very dark black and white movie. -
Is your config file read-only? that would make sense, btw what kind of code are you talking about?

[Help me, wise gamers] Long distance Flickering on a "gaming" rig !
omgitzgnar replied to paradogz's topic in Troubleshooting
I started having this problem when i overclocked my GPU memory clock, if you've OC'd yours, try incrementally turning it down until the problem goes away. :) -
The experimental branch is a separate database, so no, your character will not save when it goes live, you'll have the character that you have had on stable.

It's possible you just got shot, even though no shot was heard as the audio in game is not very well done, at all. It's happened to quite a few people, myself included.
-
Well, you've reached the end game for now there aren't a whole lot of options. You can suicide/get murdered, or you can be one of the 98% and go kill any fresh spawn you see. You could help some newbies, show them where to get gear, maybe even do a little protection service. Since Global Chat is not in the game, hunting down bandits is not very easy. But, Pro Tip, don't get attached to your gear. Have less, lose less, is what i live by on DayZ.

If you use -winxp as a launch parameter, take it off. it should work then.

That's where the Bug Reports comes into play. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/83-bug-reports/ DeSync my good sir. I've seen some horrible things when it comes to desync.

Main menu screen is grey, can't see character.
omgitzgnar replied to AcerAr's topic in Troubleshooting
Remove -skipintro from your launch parameters. I'm assuming they told you to do that in one of the videos you watched, as 90% of the videos out there do. It's not necessary, and does not in the slightest improve performance. -
Are you recording or do you have any overlays on? for example, MSI Afterburner, DXTory, FRAPS, even OBS? I'm not sure why, but with (any of) those overlays on, changing video settings crashes me. Anything that requires the game engine to restart, Changing Resolution, Anti-Aliasing, VSync, all of them crash the game (for me) when any of the overlays are on. Hope this helps, man.

They do it to make your life miserable, Pro Tip: Ignore them, change servers, and move on.

Hey everyone! Thought i'd post a link to my video series here, hopefully you guys could check them out, drop a like and possible subscribe? :P I'm just starting my DayZ video series. But don't worry, i'm not some newb that just got the game, i've been playing DayZ since november of 2011? or 2012, i can't remember, it's all one long blur, really. :D It's not the best, i'll admit, but it'd be great to have some feedback, and just views in general woudl make me really happy! I'm making roughly one video a week, give or take. I will hopefully be posting a lot more vids, hopefully if the feedback is good. Anywho, enough of my nonsense, here's the vid. Appreciate it, guys. ^_^

Honestly, best thing to do, for in-game setting is put your settings ALL the way down, (including resolution. lowest you should need to go is 1280x720 in the User interface resolution.) and work your way up until it starts to run like shit, then back it up a little.

Set Launch Options - No main screen background images
omgitzgnar replied to jrhesketh@gmail.com's topic in Troubleshooting
The one that gets rid of this is either -skipintro or -nosplash. Those aren't really necessary because it's still takes the same amount of time to load the game even with them off. it's either watch a small intro for BI, or look at the little dayz logo. doesn't matter really. but yeah, take them out of the argument, and it'll work. -
KOS and how it might relate to the DayZ Sim.
omgitzgnar replied to Obraien's topic in New Player Discussion
This has become redundant reply number 600 million. Gratz. The guy is expressing his opinion, stfu or gtfo. (Anywho, back to OP) That's a decent outlook on it. Most of us have given up hope that the base dayz player will suddenly, or even eventually stop KOS'ing. it's nice to see someone still reaching for the stars, in that respect. Allow me to tell you the outlook i have on this. During the mod, the Hero/Bandit system was pretty cool, a survivor could successfully judge a person based purely on what he looked like. This was fine, and worked well, except people liked the Balaclava (and it required effort to get Hero Status) which required them to murder, just about anything. This forced a LOT of KOS, just to change your looks. Now a little later in the mod, of group of kids (assuming) discovered a way to inject scripts into the game, and worse than that, they let a literal CRAP-TON of people get ahold of it, for free. So now, there's people running around with the ability to see other players locations, and spawn in any kind of gear in the game, (sometimes not even gear from the mod, but straight ArmA 2.) So now there's a bunch of nine year olds, running around wreaking Havoc on the mod, (for lack of parental attention i've always assumed.) running around all over, killing every person they see. and this kind of mentality spread, like herpes at a dirty public bathroom in L.A.. Even (most) legitimate players would KOS, mainly for the fear of being KOS'd. People were hoping that this kind of thing would stop, with the release of the standalone, and all the thing you could do, and all the harm you can do to their gear. and to be honest, it's kind of worked so far. BUT there's still a very VERY large playerbase with the mindset of "oh, i'm going to kill him, just because he's a player." and not "he has better gear, let's hold him up, and if he doesn't cooperate, kill him." I don't see this changing anytime soon, unless there was a penalty to the player himself. because right now, if this guy killed somebody, and lets say ruined that can of beans he had, is he going to get sad? no, he's going to talk shit, and walk into the next room, find two soda's and a can of tuna. Now, if there was a penalty to player killing in general, Lets for example use Nethers system, players that have murdered somebody else, attract more Nether creatures to the blood on the players hands. That, that would be pretty handy for stopping the KOS'ing IF zombies were an actual threat, like hordes of zombies. Until then, the mindset of "Fuck it, kill him because he's there." will be dominant on DayZ. That is my view on the predicament, anyway. ^_^ -

Nice! Good luck to OP. :P -
Low Blood / Blurry Vision - how long?
omgitzgnar replied to schadowhunter's topic in New Player Discussion
You need to eat alot more. When the Energized is bright green, like the Hydrated is, you'll soon get the Healing status. (at least that's what i did.) The blurry screen can be fixed temporarily by going into the Video settings. :P -
Battleye Client: Update successfully completed. Restarting...
omgitzgnar replied to Ramblin Hans's topic in Troubleshooting
I used to have a similar issue on the Mod. Try Launching your DayZ Client as Administrator, it sounds like it doesn't have the permissions to make changes to the contents of the folder. You may also want to try Manually downloading the latest Battleye Client, and overwrite the current files.
