My daughter's laptop has similar specs except it has a separate NVidia card, still one of those mobile ones but even with that we can only run everything on low, and it still runs like crap. Laptops (especially for DayZ SA, which is far from oprimised) are very cost-ineffective. For the same $ you can build a cheapish PC which will run DayZ SA much better than this laptop. If you have to only have a laptop, then I'd at least look at something wtih a separate gfx card, not sure if you'll find anything like that which is in your pricerange.

Yup our persistence crapped out on our private hive after the maintenance too, lucky we picked as much as we could beforehand.

Hey guys does anyone know (or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place) whether tonight's maintenance will wipe persistent states on private hives?

As mentioned a number of times in this thread already: remove your startup command options.

DayZ Vehicles (first implementation)
SentencedToBurn replied to eugenharton's topic in News & Announcements
We were lucky enough to find two trucks between the 3 of us last night. It still lags quite a bit when you're a passenger but I think I edited most of it out. Two trucks in a convoy through Chernarus is pretty sweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63-908K2eJY -
Me and few of my mates spent a couple of nights searching for tents and the two tents that I found were in the same room (albeit different buildings) and on the same floor. Here is where I found mine just in case anyone else is struggling to find one: - Go to Cherno, Novoselky or Dubky - Go to any tall apartment building (the one where you have to climb up the ladder first) - Once you get off the ladder go up 1 set of stairs - Enter the 2nd apartment from the left like here: And it might be in this room here - the other time I foudn it in this same room it was sitting on top of the bed:

I did try to find a similar topic, my apologies if this has already been raised (I'm sure someone will promptly point this out). As most of you are probably aware you can infinitely (well I haven't found a limit yet anyway) store items inside other items, inside other items, as long as you understand what can be stored and in what order the items need to be added, etc. My question is - does anyone consider this glitching i.e. my interpretation of glitching is exploiting an existing bug to gain an unfair advantage. There is ofcourse a downside to this method as it takes forever to find anything as well as risking server restarts and zombie attacks while you have all your gear laid out on the ground. I do like to run around and feed the hungry and I often come across groups of bambis. Carrying enough burlap sacks, ropes and other bambi gear to help say 2 people is not too difficult but anymore and becomes problematic. So I've been collecting 6 pocket pants, jackets, yellow containers (although that is a legitimate storage item) and nesting them which allows me to carry shitloads of gear. Then when it's time to perform my humanitarian duties I just drop the "top level item" and extract all items that are stored inside. Ofcourse other players with hoarding tendencies can use this to store insane amounts of whatever they want, jackets, vests and pants all take up less space when stored. I'm sure that the glitch of being able to add items to an empty piece of clothing which is already in your backpack (or anywhere else) will be fixed but until then - what are all your thoughts on this moral dilemma? Is this a shameful act and anyone that does this is a glitching asshole, or would this be considered as one of the perks of this still being an Alpha? For those that still don't know what I'm talking about, here is a quick video I've just uploaded. Although in reality you only do this with pants and jackets as the containers are pretty hard to come by. ***************REMOVED***************

Hey while I appreciate your input and I am somewhat relieved that more people dont consider this glitching - it was not my intention to start bagging the game. I do understand this is an Alpha and I accept that all sorts of bugs and glitches are part of the process. -

SentencedToBurn replied to SentencedToBurn's topic in General Discussion
No I don't get anymore desync when I do it compare to when I don't. Perhaps I just haven't got to the point where it makes any difference. And I appreciate your view on this. -
Hey mate have you found one since the second 0.49 update came through? A few of us mustve gone through about 30 buildings in total both smaller and larger apartment buildings and didnt find a tent. But I noticed that those deer huts spawn loot again so maybe theyre back in there?
-
Found an answer here, looks like the tents spawn in tall and medium sized apartment blocks: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2grwgh/049_stable_anybody_know_where_tents_are_found/
-
I went for a run through a bunch of those shacks that used to spawn tents to try and find one but realised that none of them had loot anymore, would be interesting to find out if others found tents in other places perhaps?
-
Hahaha dude that sucks balls but your reactions are priceless. But yeah usually if they have a squeeky voice - dont help them. I dont like KOSing personally but that would be an exception if they came too close. Dont let this choir boy ruin your dayz experience and stop helping people.
-
I find that doing that gives you the opposite ends of the spectrum at the same time, You either get shot straight away because you cannot retaliate or you get ignored completely because you pose no harm. But yup if you are out to talk to people having no gear definitely helps a lot.

I dont often play on hardcore, I used to keep this character when I just wanted to muck around and not risk getting my regular character killed. So during my random muck around sessions I ended up building up a decently geared guy with a full backpack and vest of food, ammo and other bits and pieces. So in the last few days I kept jumping on to highly populated hardcore servers in attempt to establish some human contact. First I came across a newspawn who was very apprehensive at first, once I gave him some food and drink, he seemed cool so I gave him a 1911 with a clip and some amo, and a holdster. And what do you know the guy was cool, didnt shoot me for my mosin and my gear, we looted a few towns until I had to head off. Today another similar situation - came across a dude (Dr C.. something? I'm not good with names) at Berezino fighting off the zombies, although he did have a mosin I yelled out friendly, and again the dude was cool. Turns out he only had two rounds so I gave him some ammo, food and whatever else. Then we ended up looting the airfield and the new town up north. I know many of you have been betrayed many times, have given up and now only KOS, but being a rehabilitated bandit myself I feel that this type of gameplay is much more satisfying. This isn't an anti KOS rant btw, without people shooting on site these interactions wouldn't have been as intense, if everyone was friendly then there is no risk approaching anyone. So if you do come across a well-geared player and you always either run or KOS, remember that there is another option - you can talk to them.

Can you trust a stranger with a loaded gun?
SentencedToBurn replied to SentencedToBurn's topic in General Discussion
Yeah nah I hear that, and in RL I would definitely take a similar approach to what you are suggesting. In DayZ however it seems that many have never even considered the "communication" aspect of the game. Dont get me wrong, i'm far from a "we're all children of mother nature" type of person, in fact - fuck hippies and their peaceful ways. But as an exception, less mindless violence in DayZ (for me anyway) made for a much better experience. -

haha nice. My wife had the same experience the other day. These guys were yelling for her to come out or theyll shoot - as soon as she said shes friendly on proximity chat, oh suddenly they were very friendly, here have some food, have this canteen, where are you from, etc... women have it easy, we have to fight/scavenge for our shit. -
8 hours of searching and all I've found is a motorcyle helmet.
SentencedToBurn replied to poultond's topic in New Player Discussion
8 hours sounds like a bit of an overkill but if you have just started, my guess is you spawned near Kamishovo (or as Morgan Freeman calls it Kamywobo), that place is one of the first towns to get raided so you'd be lucky to get anything. Plus given you probably searched every building not just the buildings where loot actually spawns (after you play this game for a few hours you learn which buildings never spawn loot) so that wouldve had taken you a while. Then if you started moving your way inland - again, newspawns would have cleared everything out, and again with you searching every single building would have taken you a while. So i would say it's a combination of you spawning on a server that hasnt been restarted for a while and being new you would have searched every place like I did on my first day. Dont give up, rejoin another server and go to larger towns - you might come across some bandits but your chances of you finding good loot are much higher. -
Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
SentencedToBurn replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
The new zombies are definitely changing the pvp gamplay too. Last night we have been fighting off a bunch of zombies while trying to loot that small military base at Chapaevsk I think - saw a couple of guys with m4s and instead of getting all hostile and trying to take each other's pants we kept fighting off the zombies. In the brief moment between when all zombies were dead and they respawned we actually exchanged some ammo and bandages. I guess the idea that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" is changing the gameplay a bit (I was skeptical of saying "improving the gameplay" as I know many still prefer to KOS which is fine if they're that way inclined). Plus the new patch is much better, can actually play the game now. A few random teleports but nothing like the issues we had on the weekend. -
That was pre-0.42, now the weather is synced so its identical for all players on the server.

I dont think this has been posted on the forums and I figured some people might miss out, DayZ people posted this URL on Facebook a couple of weeks ago: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzUfyakhQg6xa3VfX21qWEpaNEU/edit It's a 60Mb jpeg of Chernarus (although the new town isnt on there). Took me and the mrs about an hour to print out the labels and mark all the ammo spots etc but it seems to be easier to use the printout rather than Alt-Tabbing or having a laptop sit on your desk with the map too: Actually if anyone knows of an up-to-date map where the labels and markers are included could you please give me a yell, This printout had to be downsized but it was still a 15Mb jpeg that I had to use to print on A0.
-
probably draw it on with a marker until I can be bothered reprinting it again. Although I dont think I have the patience to readd all those labels again so in a few months time itll probably just be full of stickers with new towns.
