Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
SentencedToBurn replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Just had a go on hardcore for a couple of hours. Definitely heaps more zombies which is awesome as that's what you'd expect from a zombie survival game. The only thing I found was that when I spawned in the middle of the forest - while I was still loading I got attacked by a zombie and died within about 20 seconds or so while I was waiting for it to load. So as soon as your guy loads dont wait for all the textures and whatever else load - just run in case there is a zombie as they seem to spawn near you or im not sure how it happened. Loving the tactical bacon, havent seen the new towns yet but its nice to see all the police stations and medical centres now in stable. There seemed to be some lag using items and seeing people dissapear and then reappear 30 seconds later but it felt like all servers were dropping off and coming back on. Gonna try and make a fire later in the week, not sure if anyone's tried that yet or whether it's available or not. But overall it seems sweet, and its nice to have synced weather too. -
DayZ keeps crashing when I try to join a server?
SentencedToBurn replied to Paule2934's topic in Troubleshooting
try the experimental server - it worked for me. although i still ended up reinstalling my windows and everything else that comes with it as every time i reverted to a stable release it kept crashing. was fine after the reinstall though. oh shit just remembered - did you by any chance follow a guide where you had to edit the CFG file where you change the drawing distance, etc? After my reinstall I tried DayZ on stable - it was fine, but then after i made those CFG changes to speed it up a bit - started getting the crashes. If you have done it - the best way to reset them to default is to just delete the lot, it'll reset your keybindings and your name/default character - but your actual character online won't be affected. It didnt affect mine anyway. And then once you log in you'll start with a default set of config settings. -
I had the same issue which started randomly after I've done about 100 hours or so without a single crash. I couldnt fix it - the box had hardly any software on it apart from windows, latest drivers, steam, etc. It did seem to work fine on experimental servers but going back to stable i also got "DayZ stopped responding" after about 3-5 minutes of joining a sever. I decided to do a complete reinstall of windows since nothing else was on this pc, reinstalled dayz - i did experience one crash after about half an hour on stable, but since then it's been fine. Not sure what caused it - whether there were any updates come through last wednesday or not. Fingers crossed she'll be right for now.

lol go to the actual URL dont look at that photoshopped image and get all excited. And if you dont like the 3rd person view just join the hardcore servers instead, they've already given you the option of only having 1st person, whats the big deal?

Keep starting as a woman even after default change
SentencedToBurn replied to mistertuggles's topic in New Player Discussion
I actually was thinking the same thing when my wife also bought dayz and was running around with me as a female character. It seems though that she's been KOS'd just as many times as I have. Although a whole bunch more people would also offer her food and drinks lol. -

I only saw one person in this thread mention that opening doors seems to lag on 0.42 compare to current live version, last night a few of us were on an experimental server and it seems that the door lag was pretty bad - it was both the icons appearing quite late and also when attempting to open the door it was either immediate or if it lagged it took between about 2 and 5 seconds to open. Has anyone else experienced this or was this due to the fact that all experimental servers were full while the normal servers were down for maintenance? -

So you mean they should've deployed a version which would have introduced more bugs and glitches rather than postponing the deployment and addressing the issues before the rollout? -
First off - I did use the search function a few times however found nothing that actually answered this question. The reason I'm asking is that I've managed a number of projects using the generic approach and looking at the speed that these updates are being rolled out (despite the amount of moaning and complaining) makes me think that the Agile principles are being used. Just the amount of user feedback the devs actually take onboard, follow up and implement is mind boggling - maybe it's the fact that I've come from a large telco environment where the user's feedback is shoved way down the toilet and then flushed repeatedly, for me such quick turnaround seems amazing. Then the idea of utilising users themselves to go on experimental servers, test the patch before it goes live and provide feedback, I'm sure other companies have done this in the past but just seeing this put into practice - i wish larger organisations actually had a go at this rather than just talking about it at a high level talking that this is on their "roadmap". Anyway, if anyone actually knows which SDLC approach is used in DayZ development please let me know. Would be quite nice to use this as an example when discussing issues when sticking to generic/waterfall model at work. Thanks

I tested this last night - me and my mate swapped between a pristine and a damaged long range scope and there was no difference that we could tell apart from the actual condition of the lens where you can see small cracks and other shit. But the accuracy seemed to be the same. Tested on all ranges from 100m to 800m.

Friendlies are plentiful in DayZ- At least, for me
SentencedToBurn replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
This thread inspired me to be even less trigger happy. When I jump online tonight I will not only be friendly to bambis but will attempt to start more dialogues with armed players. I think I've played this game long enough to not worry about my gear too much. -
I'm sure plenty of people use the tactic of wearing an identical piece of clothing to quickly identify your mates from strangers. Unless ofcourse you meet someone who is wearing that same piece of clothing then it gets a bit dodgy. Also ideally you want people in your group to tell you if they are changing their appearance as it saves you freaking out and asking who is this guy with a rifle right next to you.

Met four human players so far!
SentencedToBurn replied to Standfree1987's topic in New Player Discussion
I remember my first few days on standalone - I would talk to everyone and maybe due to the lack of gear I wouldnt get taken often so it seemed pretty safe. Then ofcourse I started frequenting the airfields, visited electro and cherno a few times and it all changed. Now me and my mates always drop to the ground as soon as we see another player even though we have no more room for anymore gear or weapons. I also found players to be more friendly on experimental, I still remmember having a backpack an an M4 on experimental, it was at Zeleno - saw another player in full military gear with a rifle who had actually put his rifle away infront of me, waved and asked if i need anything. Holy crap. There are good people out there. Needless to say after a quick exchange of ammo and some weapon attachments we were on our way. I then attempted to do the same thing with the next person I saw and got shot instantly lol. The lesson is if you're attached to your gear then you gotta be an asshole. If you aren't attached to your stuff then you can be a good dude. -

The new patch is a huge improvement as far as the FPS go, first i didnt see any changes but then upped shadows, textures, etc and im still sitting at 60fps. Prior to this patch i used to drop to about 45 or so with the same settings so whatever you guys did worked mint. Zombie respawn is great, I was going to force-drink someone and test if my canteen dissapears but couldnt, will try again tomorrow. One thing i found was that although it no longer rains inside some buildings where it used to - it still seems to rain in some of those big metal sheds, specifically there were two that sit together at the docks at Svetlo, -
how do YOU dress to look friendly? and what not to dress?
SentencedToBurn replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
Me and 3 of my mates decided to be "humanitarians" a couple of nights ago, ran through Berezino feeding all the new spawns (we were running out of space from all the food anyway so opening cans and handing them out isnt a problem). But as you say one of the guys charged straight at us, lucky after a few "keep your distance or you'll be back at the beach" warnings he backed away and patiently waited for his can of drink and baked beans. The problem with "feeding the hungry" is that 1 in 10 will still try and knock you out despite the fact that there are a few guns pointed at them. -

Honestly, big thanks to all the devs and whoever else is busting their ass working on this game. Great update! -
Hey thanks SupaFunk thats real helpful!

Hahaha this could well turn into a "healthy eating in DayZ" thread. In order to lead a healthy lifestyle be sure to mix and match your intake. Avoid fizzy drinks and stick to fresh fruit and water when possible. And remember, if you see a zombie - save your ammunition and just go for a refreshing sprint instead!
-
Yup same here, black and white but not blurry at all. Have been eating and drinking plenty for probably last 5-6 hours but still black and white. Havent had any vitamins so will try to find some. Also tried to do a blood transfusion but coudlnt work out what inventory items i needed and in what order to use them, etc. Will just keep eating like a pig hopefully thatll get it eventually.

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
SentencedToBurn replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
As a first time user (me and the wife installed this last night for the first time) this is totally what we expected plus some. It was made very clear that the game is in early alpha, we watched a few youtube vids to see what it was like, etc. I'm not sure whether looking at the map on another screen is cheating but as soon as you come across a town, read the name, look at the roads - you can find your location pretty sweet. I dont think this is not too hard to get your head around, the few small challenges are what makes this game different from everything else out there.
