How Often Do You Meet Survivors?
cpo1bishop replied to The Vampire Lestat's topic in New Player Discussion
Since I started up again last week I've: Watched as a guy cleaned out the barracks building in the military base near the south, killed the zombies in front of the hospital before clearing out the other barracks. Was presumably killed by someone on top of the lonely construction site on the far west side of the map. As well met a new friend in the tent section of the NWAF. I saw him in the tents and I was approaching from the airfield, his friends has just left so we were the only ones on. So I hid behind the hesco's to wait to see what he'd do, and he ended up coming right at me, so I called out his nic, (found out after the initial encounter my mic was cutting in and out so it took allot of guts and good nature on his part to trust the situation at all), after a couple tries we were able to inform each other of our peaceful nature, and then he got really excited to show me the trucks near us, which I had no clue you could use. So he proceeded to teach me how to use the truck, and after a race up the runway, we decided to drive to the island prison. Oh yeah, I think I got axed or took one in the head the first time I explored the prison. I walked into the one room on the left where the AK74's spawn near the rear of the guard house, and stood there frozen trying to take in the massive amount of loot before me, when...... You are dead. -
how long do you wait? After playing hardcore, I left it and found it takes an unusual amount of time to close, upwards of a minute at times, but it does close. Regular on the other hand hangs as soon as I try to leave the sever menu and I have to alt tab and chose to close via window dialogue.
-
i find hardcore does not; regular does regularly, with regularity, on a random basis.
-
I tried and I tried to get a clean shot with the weapon flashlight the way I first saw it because it was a little more startling, I almost double tapped the caps lock key, but because I was moving the only way I could capture it was to crank the gamma and stand outside. (really didn't wanna get shot taking a screen shot for the forums as possible qualifier for the stupidest death) (edit: I prolly should have mentioned this is in hardcore) dun dundundun oh....
-
yeah the screen shots don't really do it justice. Much more convincing when you come across the scene using a weapons flashlights. Oh, this is in hardcore.

Being friendly finally paid off

That's wicked cool. Way better than most of the other experiments I've heard other players involved in. Since .45 was released I started playing hardcore more often I've have yet to be shot at. teamed up with a few randoms for awhile, met a couple of friends, backed away from a few very startled folks who agreed to do the same. I wouldn't say it's wholly due to the dynamic caused by the lack of a third person perspective, but the equalization of the percentage of risk to both players in most circumstance, favouring cover of course, seems to make people a little less cavalier. -
Not even kidding, all of them found in civilian buildings. 2 worn, 1 damaged, 1 bd, 1 pristine. After finding the third one I started taking screen shots.
-
oh, that makes sense. thanks
-
It was pretty ridiculous. All within 20-30 minutes of each other. I picked up the pristine out of general principle. Maybe I'll run into someone that doesn't shoot me in the face to give it to.

This just occurred to me as I was just logging in, so it's not really a well fleshed out idea. A toteable duffle bag which could only be carried in your hands, and would spawn with you where ever you stashed it, and eventually at a certain point as it fills it should become immobile. You'd only be able to have one in your possession at any given time. So sorta like the backpack, the last one you use would remain persistent, simply potentially in a different location then where you spawn, where ever you left it. And, of course everyone else would be able to see it, and loot from it. Stupid? ps: I did find this post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/171916-large-bags-interesting-idea/?hl=%2Bduffle+%2Bbag#entry1752181 however it didn't capture the details I desired and it sorta got sidetracked. imo, a large duffle couldn't be shouldered, you'd need to carry it in your hands, this and it being lootable by others provides a little balance / risk vs reward.
-
Any spot on the map that makes sense to you to stash a stockpile of weapons ammo food and water.
-
thanks! (more below about the shoulder straps) (this isn't entirely focused on you, I kind of use your point to expand on the idea) Even though it's a bag, and a container, it's not a backpack. I'm not speaking about the actual object as it exists in real life, more the concept. Yes I realize most circumstance would allow for you to shoulder both straps irl. You could also do that with an additional rifle. So maybe, it could either occupy your hand slot, or shoulder carry slot. You'd have to take chance of carrying your rifle rather than it occupying the shoulder carry slot as the duffle would be there. Although I prefer it only being able to be carried by hand. The intent I was trying to capture is more like duffle large enough it wouldn't be feasible to carry it like a backpack. The concept behind only being able to carry it in your hands is to provide balance, as it's an extra large storage container, and not meant to be used like a backpack, but more like a drop. When you find one you'd have to decide if your current circumstance allow you to use it. Is the location it's in right now secure enough for you feel comfortable stashing items in it? If not, will you take the chance of picking it up, thus disarming yourself and occupying the hand slot, and moving it to a more secure location, if it's empty enough. Some mechanics would have to be developed to handle possession to combat obvious exploits. For instance, some way to stop people from finding one that already belongs to someone, taking possession and then simply logging. Perhaps, you don't take possession for a fixed amount of time. I could see this leading to some interesting scenarios. Payer a takes possession, sorts through duffle, now has to wait x amount of time before it will remains persistent with their character. Either player a stays and guards it, or leaves it unprotected, or just loots it and leaves. Player b returns to stash before x expires, now either has to fight player a, or retake possession and defend for x, or take possession and leave unguarded. edited for continuity

Came upon a huge weapons stash in Berezino.

I found three in around twenty minutes in the barracks on the north side of the nwaf, and in the bunkhouses there and in the base a few miles south of that location. Last time I died looking I was looking for a single usable battery, and in the last few days I've come across at least 20, not counting the non-pristine... pretty sure it's just messing with you -
caught this on the steam forum. I had no idea you could do this

Servers with connection issues to central hive
cpo1bishop replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
K, so what i figued out with a 100% success rate is: a. pick a server that is public as opposed to private using the hive column, b. when loading ensure there's no hive connection warning I load my pre .45 char everytime Unless anything has changed overnight, it seems like fragnet has the majority of these atm, as well as few randoms that are listed as public but are not listed as being carried by a specifc host; vilayer hosted randoms for example seem to be connected alright. Edit: I posted this while trying to get Facetrack noir working and now noticed everything is back to normal. I apologize for my hasteful post. -
Can someone explain the character reset situation?
cpo1bishop replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
I'm paying only on servers that have my pre .45 character hoping they'll sort what seem to be seperate hives within stable - regular. I just don't feel like lossin my shit if I can avoid it. Yes, but there seem to be issues where certain hosts seem to be on separate hives, and certain hosts serve up the character prior to the patch. Please correct me if you have solid info, but this is what I'm experiencing, and haven't been able to find anything to the contrary. Yeah, I think I remember having this issue last patch as well, but after awhile everything was back to normal, so to speak. So then the trick is to play a sever you're familiar with until the hives are one? I'm no expert. edit: I know there's the open ticket, and it's really soon, more information would be great. Forgive me if something has been posted somewhere else, I had a look around and couldn't see anything. -
is there any way to tell the difference? Edit: Actually I assume the ones that have Public stated in their description are the public ones eh? http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78

Can someone explain the character reset situation?
cpo1bishop replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
I've never had this much trouble before. Normally pretty well every server in my list is connected up to the central hive, just tonight it seems most are not. edit:http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 -
Servers with connection issues to central hive
cpo1bishop replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I can't speak for your your settings, but there seem to be a handful of servers that are connecting to the central hive and loading my character. the rest load bambi spawns. I thought it was Gameservers.com but now a bunch of them are also loading bambi's, however the last server I logged into was a Gameservers.com (edit: actually it was a vilayer) server and loaded my pre .45 character. edit:http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 -

(personal experience, not quoting a source of any kind) it seems there are several servers right now that cannot connect to the central hub, I've hit a bunch of fragnet severs, specifically the LAX group, and they all stated upon login that they're not connected up and I had the same fresh spawn for each. Hit another server, competently different fresh spawn. Another, and I find my fully kitted character. So it seems like certain groups share a hive, which has no persistence with other sub-hives, like frag net, and vilayer would each have a different bambi spawn consistent with other servers of the same host. Make sense? Like I said I have no clue how the hive architecture is laid out, so... just my observation -
I was crouched inside the tower area on top of the new police hall when I sar a zombie out front, opened the door and went prone in the doorway that leads to the roof. As soon as my character would have been prone, you are dead, my leg is in extreme pain, I think my leg is broken. I heard nothing at all. Did some sneaky bastard get the drop on me, or did I fall prey to a bug? Of course one can only offer ones opinion, unless someone else has fallen through that particular floor.

So I'm geared to the tit's, and by that I mean all pristine attachments for the m4 and the FX45, two pristine ammo cases stuffed with 600 rounds of 5.56, 400 rounds of .45, nine, count them nine yellow cases full goodies, full pristine black tac gear, and I knew my fucking blood type. My head torch was chewing through batteries like 1 every couple hours or so, so I decide i'd be fun to drop into some towns to look for some of the little buggers. Promptly die. Cause unknown. Respawn in Svetlojarsk, which was pretty cool, and proceed to find 4 pristine batteries within 10 minutes, and two discarded flashlights at the airfield a half hour later. #@&% really?

I think that would be taking this shit to far

yeah, I had to lower it in the config file to 0.1 as well. big difference. obviously if you still find it too responsive you can go to 0.075 etc but i found 0.1 is sufficient for me. I also used this for dayz and serveral other games. (removes pointer acceleration)
