  1. I agree about the global chat, communication may not be "realistic" but this is a community game. No one came to this game because it is a zombie game, we came because its an MMO zombie game. By removing the communication, it becomes more of a Co-op game with exceptionally intelligent survivor/bandit "AI". About the storage box, my take on it is this. The addition of a spade tool is interesting, i like it. The size you suggest is way too big though. 40 items in what is nearly a zero risk storage is far too much. I say keep the tents in as high-volume storage and put in buried safe-boxes as something that can only hold 12 slots or so. Enough for a weapon and some ammo to be safely stored, or as a supply stash, but not as something for all of your crap. For people to store a lot of stuff, like the current tent cities, they would need many many boxes, and it would make finding the right box a pain in the ass, as it would be in real life.

    Best Sniper?

While you can't zero the crosshair to a specific range' date=' you can absolutely use the mil-dots to compensate for different known ranges. I have a notebook sitting next to my keyboard that details how many mil-dots high a person will be at differing ranges, and how many dots of compensation are required at differing ranges. If you want to be successful with the DMR at any meaningful range, you'll want to do the same. BTW the DMR is zero'd to 400m (zoomed). [/quote'] Nah its 300 meters, tested it the other day on a guy when i was 309 meters away from him (According to the personal waypoint) hit right where i was aiming. The DMR is very strange in that with the scope at minimum zoom, its zeroed at 300m, but at max zoom it is zeroed at 400m. The default keys for the adjustable scope are +/- on the numpad. Anyone with a bit of research and math can make a simple chart for a mil-dot scope based on a target of known height. The main ratio to remember is that at 1000m 1 mil~36" That ratio stays the same no matter what the distance is, so at 800m, 1mil~ 8/10 * 36" = 30" The drop per distance is something that needs to be found out with the gun though, so unless you can find a chart for your gun you need to take it out to the range.

    Difference between hatchet and axe

or the old hatchet could be replaced by something like a camp saw, the simplest versions are just a chainsaw blade with a handle on either side.

    My Suggestion.

Man, some people don't know when to draw the line on realism. If you start to make a game this realistic, it just stops being fun.

    Another thread advocating radios!

I like the idea of being able to sneak into the channel of the enemy. Realistically though, if there is any possibility of it happening, any clan i know of will just continue to use third party chat.
  8. http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=15528 Is page 2 really too far away to look?
  9. I guess I've never noticed that aspect of food because I'm almost always with a friend and blood packs aren't terribly hard to find.

RAPE - adding an other psychological element

My favorite part of this post is how he picked the rainbow icon to go with it.
  11. It certainly doesn't seem like a terrible idea. As the game is right now, i don't even think about food, i automatically come across it while looking for other things. As long as I make sure to keep one or two of each at all times I've had no issues.

    Drinking from lakes/faucets

Oh sorry for the misunderstanding. Faucet isn't incorrect, but i would have called it a well or a pump as you just did. Yeah, it would make sense to be able to, drinking out of a lake is awkward, but not impossible. I always carry at least two canteens with me, but i could see where it would be annoying to have fresh water right there and not have the ability to drink. Since canteens are filled from the inventory, there is room for a scroll wheel command.
  13. I think that melee weapons should be made as sidearms, and as they haven't actually been balanced yet, it wouldn't be as hard to implement now as it would later. There are several reasons I think this would be more fair. For myself and many others, the pistol is reserved as the zombie killing weapon. They are short range, the 1911 and revolver are one hit kills on zombies, the weaker pistols are quite quiet. They are a perfect fit for this role. This leaves the primary weapon as more of a PvP weapon, both for bandits and people who need to fight the bandits off. Melee weapons are pretty much exclusively for killing zombies, so there's little reason to pick it up when it can only be paired with a pistol that's already well suited for it. As a sidearm, since they assume the same role, and people would be far more likely to use them. If balanced properly, I don't think it would be unreasonable. Melee weapons are an inherently risky weapon choice, and if a player carries a loud primary like a sniper along with a melee, it leaves little room for error. In a bad situation, the sniper would be left with a choice between facing a large mob with just a melee weapon, or shooting and alerting every bandit and zombie in the area. The risk of the weapon would make up for the silence it provides. Additionally, if the hatchet remains a primary, it takes up 10 slots. As a sidearm, the hatchet would only take up 5 slots. This would make it much more practical for the average player to carry one even if they don't use it as a weapon. Sacrificing 10 slots is a hard choice even if it means carrying a sniper and a silenced primary, a hatchet just doesn't compare. At 10 slots, I could carry 5 stacks of wood and ditch them as I need more room.

    Melee weapons as sidearms.

From what I've seen around the forums, it seems that the melee weapons are just a shotgun that has been modded with a new skin and given ultra-short range. Really an elegant solution if you ask me. @Demnish Ive always thought that a melee weapon that could be easily and reliably used to kill massive hordes doesn't belong in the game anyway. Ammo conservation is one of the main stresses in the game, and as such, i feel that melee weapons should be more of a last ditch weapon; or as a weapon that can be used to take out a single zombie without creating a horde. What I meant by rebalancing the weapon for a secondary role is making it so that there is a bit of a ballet required to get a zombie kill without being injured. Make it take 3 hits or so, make it have a bit of a wind-up, make it so that the zombie has a chance to get hits in if done poorly, make it high risk. The fact that they are common and silent will make up for a heck of a lot of downsides.

    Drinking from lakes/faucets

I admit I'm not exactly sure how the infrastructure works, but would faucets work now that no one is taking care of the water plant?

    Got some big ol' Bags

I like how a bag that can carry 10 piles of wood is only able to carry a single crowbar and hatchet.

    DayZ Progression Rate

Mr Maccoy' date=' I believe this as I'm quite sure (probably wrong to be honest) as the DayZ dev. team stated that once ArmA III has been released, they will begin on creating the 'new' DayZ (on the new game). If this happens, ArmA II DayZ will probably die, won't it? [/quote'] Rocket is a member of Bohemia interactive, and once BI noticed the success of DayZ, they would like to include it with arma 3 on release. While that may be a pipe dream, I think its fair to say that transferring DayZ and most of its content to Arma 3 shouldn't be too hard when rocket is able to watch Arma 3 as it's being put together.

How about a Bow and Arrows?

You can actually make a survival bow with nothing but a length of PVC and a short length of wooden dowel in the middle to stop it from folding in half when you pull it.

How about a Bow and Arrows?

i think both a modern compound bow and a craftable one with less range xD & and arrows should be craftable with wood:) Modern compound bows have the potential to shatter wooden arrows. IF implimented, i think the compound should require aluminum arrows while a wooden self bow could use either aluminum or wooden. Really though, i think the Xbow would fill this role just fine if the sights were fixed.

sorry for the self bump, but i was really hoping for at least some criticism.
