Computer specs and display configuration
sacrdandprofne replied to CharacterMilk's topic in Technology/Programming
I have an i5 with 6G RAM; GT 520 card. Not a great set up, I know. I run it on the native resolution (1980) which obviously helps with the crispness of display, but I have to knock everything else down to "off" or "very low" to prevent horrible FPS. Indoors it runs awesome, outdoors can get a bit laggy. Nothing I can't deal with. But, when I try the other route (50% resolution) the game just looks like crap no matter how high I put the detail. I guess there's no happy medium? -
Maybe counter that with a higher spawn rate for lower-grade melee weapons? Just for a quick jumpstart of defense.

This would be fantastic! Take the "chaos evidence" atmosphere of L4D2, with all its destruction and creepiness, and throw it on the Chernarus map!

Wow; this whole thing just made the game that much more awesome and creepy! Hooray! A backstory! -
I wont call it realistic till this happens

XD I have 3 beers in my bag; I'm wondering what'll happen if I down all three. Although my buddy's character threw up after drinking too much water. -

No, didn't think of that. -

I see a major downside to cars. If enough people have cars on one server, the entire map would be looted within the hour. Then people would get bored and mow spawns down with their cars. -

That's what a zombie apocalypse is all about: zombies actually being a threat! -
Wholeheartedly seconded.

It was Chuck Norris, wasn't it? :o

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

So true. XD -
Can't argue with that!

5. Didn't speak English? But, at any rate, he did keep approaching; you kinda had to. EDIT: now that I think of it, he was probably busy telling his buddies on TS that he was in trouble.

I am legitimately scared every time I log in
sacrdandprofne replied to Dr. Phil's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm still new, so I still get anxiety anytime I set foot in a big town; especially an airfield/base. A buddy on Teamspeak put his headset down without saying anything first and the loud "BANG!" made my heart stop. XD -
This.

So apparently new players are the only combat loggers? Har har!

What is?

As soon as I saw the gorgeous screenshots, and saw the words "survival horror" and "multiplayer", I needed to at least try it. Thankfully it was gifted to me by a friend and we both jumped in together. 1. I love anything zombies 2. The realism/social-experiment aspect is fascinating. 3. Multiplayer is so much better when there's a long-term task to do (vs quick zombie blasting L4D2-style, which also has it's place ;) )

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
sacrdandprofne replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
I can understand your friend's frustration: I wasn't having boatloads of fun when I first started, but it grew on me really quickly. I was hesitant to start another "running around game" (I gave up Skyrim out of boredom), but something about this game stuck with me. Hopefully he'll give it a couple more tries, then the bug will bite him. ;) Best. Video. Ever. -

Rewarding players for actually staying alive and surviving.

I'd like to see a "leaderboard" showing "longest spawn", but that'd be too easy to cheat on. -
I'm half supportive of this idea. Names floating over people trying to hide would be no good, though. Maybe it should only pop up when your characters have interacted (ie, in combat).

There's no reason to go to the NWAF or the north anymore (here's why)

Once the whole map opens up, the Chernarus we know will be a ghost town. -
Easy and simple idea on how to tackle combat-logging issue
sacrdandprofne replied to Miquinei's topic in Suggestions
No, I understand what he meant. It just seems like overkill. For example: I have kids. If I happen to be near a. Not so safe area and have to hide and log out quickly, I shouldn't have to worry about being vulnerable for 5 minutes.
