    Experimental - New melee animation.

i actually like it. feels more real than the simple lmb clicks
  2. This game is great and i love it. I wish it would continue to be a great success. Yet, from an outside perspective i got the impression that your dod (=definition of done) is far too sloppy. The amount of issues and the kind of issues that you have, leave and introduce while continuously adding more and more content is too large in my opinion. Many of the bugs are so trivial to find, that i wonder if the developers even tested it, or if you just intended to ship with bugs. Yes this is alpha, and we get to see what the QA gets to see. But in my opinion, in a professional software project, QA should barely find anything. Missing content is fine, but broken functionality is not. And i'm really worried, that by adding more and more content, without getting rid of all these bugs, but introducing new problems, they will become too much of a burden. Harming your image, your progress and your success. I'd love you to introduce better developer testing, maybe a Test-First approach, and to increase the iteration-lifetime, if you had to. A company that releases early access alpha to the public should have a pretty high quality software development process in order to keep their image clean, and their success safe. Well, that's my opinion at least. Maybe you think i'm too harsh, and i'm alright with that. This is not about me, because i like and enjoy the game at the current state despite of all it's issues. I'm more worried about people that aren't as forgiving and patient as me, and i'm also worried that your projects gets into trouble because of the continuously growing burdon of problems, and technical debt you introduce. I wish you best of luck and a great success. A Dayz addict. Ps: I'm friendly, don't shoot!

    Redefine your "Definition of Done"

I also acknowledge that it's not done. i'm just worried of the amount, and the kind of halfhearted features i get to see. There is no real definition of alpha, but an alpha usually is the first version of a program that is to be tested by the QA. So, it usually is what the programmers hand over to the testers when they think they are done with all their tasks of the current iteration. And i think that they could drastically improve this 'done'. This is quite hard, since there is a communication gap between designers and developers. designers think the obvious, but the obvious is not as obvious in a programming world. This gap could be closed by acceptance tests, for example. Also, the developers could be way more strict themselves in terms of 'when to hand over a feature'. Of a good programmer, i expect a feature to be rock solid when he hands it over to the QA. It might contain some bugs, but they should be really hard to find. QA should be more about defining when something is done in the first place. Well, this is a basic issue that the development sector is facing atm. I believe they knew how bad it was, but they had to take the risk to release the alpha in order to get the money to continue. But now that they have sold so many copies, i think it's time to step up.

    Redefine your "Definition of Done"

Thats the nature of software. It will never be done. Yet, we try to define when something is done for every iteration, in order to increase it's overall quality. We do this by defining requirements and positive, but also negative test-cases to avoid communication errors. https://www.scrum.org/Resources/Scrum-Glossary/Definition-of-Done

    Redefine your "Definition of Done"

Yes, i see truth in your statement. Nevertheless it makes me worried to see the kind of issues i'm seeing in this particular Alpha, because i believe many of them are avoidable, and should be avoided, even in alpha. I've experienced other early access alpha programs (not games in particular) that weren't nearly as unstable as this.

    Redefine your "Definition of Done"

This is also what i thought. I think that the fact, that bohemia is building on top of the arma 2.5 engine, which is probably a big ball of mud / legacy code with lots of issues, it's sometimes extremely hard to make it "fine". I can really imagine that this is very hard. But other than that i think that there are many other trivial issues that are not only related to the engine. I don't know. that's just how it appears to me. I also mean little things like: Splitting ruined bullets only leaves one ruined bullet. Ruined can opener opens cans. Duplicate my gun when i log off while having two guns. Can run around with free hands after logging in with 2 guns. Can't put something in my hands if it wasnt in the inventory first. Can't put a 4slot item into 4 free lots sometimes? Can move while relogging. These are just a few for example. And i am not talking about glitch issues, like glitch through wall here, which i am quite sure are engine related. I'm talking about the small things.

    Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)

this is a really nice update. thank you for your great work!! i enjoyed playing on the experimental recently. just one thing: by adding all this new stuff, i hope you don't overlook the critical issues that you have still left. i'd rather have a critical issue solved, instead of a new gun for example. by critical issues i mean things like: - respawn loot without server restarts - make zombies not glitch through walls - players glitching through walls and/or into places where they can't get out again (this is probably an issue in the engine, and i don't know if you are able to fix this) - performance in big cities (also engine related) - fix occasions where you'd just loose your character, because of server- / networkerrors or something like this. You probably already know this and work on it. Just sayin ;-)

    Why ARMA Engine?

You dont just build your own engine. Building an engine is a huge software project and takes a lot of time and cost. You need very good programmers, with good experience in this stuff, or you will easily fail. Even if you have everything right, there is a big risk to fail. Many companies just rely on other engines because of this. Just because there are engines, that fulfill the job, that have no risk involved. You don't want to reinvent the wheel in a software project, since it's a waste of money, and too much of a risk most of the time. Yes, the engine it's a bit clunky. But is probably one of the best to use for this game. And since they are doing a Standalone, we can hope that they touch the source and fix some of the issues, which can be quite hard also. One can only imagine what kind of big ball of mud the source code is.
  9. Hi, I have a question. I have a pristine mosin with long range scope, but i cant really aim since my zoomed crosshair is shaking so hard. It's also shaking when aiming with my pristine magnum. I don't know what it is, since i am healthy, energized and hydrated. i even used painkillers. I was shot once, and probably lost a lot of blood. but i have regenerated for like an hour, and i can see very well colorful. Could it be that my blood level is still low although i am healthy? Or is this a bug? How can i make it go away? :/ Please help. Greetings, a fellow dayz fan ---------------------------- SOLVED: I just needed to hold breath. sadly hold breath was bound to right mouse, which is zoom also. had to rebind it to another key. now it works.

    what is this?

it's probably a cheater. my friends also experienced some guy shootin fresh spawns like this.
  11. Thanks for your response. No its not a bug sadly. But i found out the Problem: I needed to hold breath in order to stop the crosshair from shaking. Hold Breath was by default binded to "Right Mouse Button" which is also used for zooming. So i could not hold breath and zoom at the same time. I bound hold breath to shift, and now it works. My crosshair stays still for like 10 seconds if i hold breath. I think this is a big deal, many people might not know this.
  12. This game is worth buying in it's current state if some of the following factors are true: - You are not impatient - You enjoy a gameplay of explore, search, find and equip like in diablo or similar rpgs - You have played and like other survival games - You like simulation games and shooters - You enjoy the atmosphere of open world rpgs If you happen to like the game, the money is definitely more than worth it, because you will most likely get a huge amount of game-hours while you'll experience a different story every time. If you are impatient, there is a chance that you'll get angry for not finding anything or for having to run long distances without any reward. The Risk is worth it in my opinion. Just give it a try
  13. while i generally agree, this problem does not seem to have anything to do with system specs
  14. No hard feelings, but i think this emergency update made the game worse. It seems like you have introduced a severe memory leak. Even with high end computers, the longer you play the more it stutteres until it freezes at some point.
  15. some servers are already up with the new update. i respawn on different spots on any server in join. my prepatch character is gone. are characters generally being wiped in this patch? or can i expect my character not to be lost?
  16. sorry, it seems i saved twice. you can delete this post.
  17. The Problem seems gone for me. Did not loose anything the last couple of days. It was really just a short phase after the patch. I was quite upset because i paid for it and i lost like 4 equipped characters as a beginner. And as a beginner, i was very nervous about my gear, that i took hours/days to find. Now, i'm not that attached to my gear any more. I love the game, got my wife to play it also, and i look forward to some nice updates. Keep up the good work.
  18. Dear Dayz Team, I recently bought this standalone because i got curious about all the stuff going on, the game, the streams, the potential, the videos and so on. So i played the Game, and i really enjoyed it. I liked the atmosphere and the feeling that the game is setting up. And it's a lot of fun playing with friends also. I do understand that this is an early access version, and not considered stable. You call it alpha. For an alpha, i dont mind if the graphics is buggyi cant turn off mouse accelerationi die if i fall 2 metersi can walk through a supermarkets wall because of clipping errorszombies walk through wallsi crash some timesBecause i can still play the game, and it makes up for it. But what i totally cannot accept is the fact that in the last Week or so, i lost 4 characters. The same happened to a friend of mine. What i am saying is: The most basic foundation of a game that you can sale is to not have players randomly loose their savegames. This is simply inacceptable. I mean, you charge money for this. I recently used IntelliJ IDEA Early access - which is totally free by the way, but i never lost my project. I do understand that it is complicated. You are dealing with shards and Big Data here. I'm also a Senior Software Developer myself, and i know these issues. Nevertheless, putting a game on sale for € 20 which is basically unplayable is just unprofessional. Why do i loose my character if i disconnect while having a "Bad Connection" sign?switch servers? You say that this is all the hosters fault, but i don't buy it. Maybe they have some bad configuration. But this is not an excuse that the current server architecture is allowing characters to be dropped. Why is my character not periodically saved on the Server that i am playing, so that i don't just randomly loose it on crashing? Why is a Server not keeping all characters states for like a week or so, and try to synchronize them as soon as they have a connection to the central? So no characters get lost! Where is my character? Fix the Situation! PS: Dealing with a large legacy code base like you are doing now is a big challenge, and has some risk involved. I hope you can do it, and i wish you best of luck. Please write Tests when coding and get the basics stable. You don't appear professional to the outside world, if you can't manage that basics.
