Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782
moparspanky replied to apollovulcan's topic in General Discussion
I think having the option to cancel the log out (ie. being in game during the log out timer) would be nice, however I don't think it will personally effect me in any material way to be out of game for those 30 seconds, as I always find a safe place to log out anyway, for the obvious reason that I don't want to come back in-game in a potentially dangerous situation. -
My son and I play together and we try to stay un-observed. We play slow and stealthy 90% of the time. While we have interacted with others, it's not our preferred style, choosing to stay out of the way most of the time instead. We have both had occasion to die which has required the geared one (usually my son) to guard the corpse and take critical gear (aka M4 + magazines) while the respawn (usually me) sprints from the respawn point to the nearest watering hole, drinks like a drunk mule, then sprints full out to my corpse (and hopefully my gear), stopping only to eat if and when it's required. This can be quite thrilling, but it's not what I prefer to do. We like to hang out up North because the towns are further apart from each other and it's less likely you'll run into others and you're close to the air field if and when you need to stock up on ammo or replace a busted scope/silencer/acog, etc.

M4, silenced and a fire axe.

in which case, I would probably KOS because screw being KOS'd right? :)
-
Here's the trick. Literally eat and drink every single thing you can the instant you find it, unless your safety is at stake, then wail until it's safe then literally eat and drink everything. Your stomach can hold A LOT and once you are fed and liquidated you are good to go for hours bro.

Funny, I had quite the opposite reaction to the sparse loot and zombies. My reaction was: 'Wow, much more realistic to not be running over guns food and ammo at every step'. The game requires patience. I've literally had to traverse the ENTIRE map twice to get myself loaded out in an impressive manner. Now I'm full health, full stomach, full energy, lots of ammo, nice weapons, plenty of water and medical gear AND I know the map pretty well at this point.

I assume I will be KOS every time I play, and I keep my gun out, I stay out of sight when ever possible. I spend a good 30-60 seconds observing towns before entering, particularly checking for already opened doors (clear giveaway of someone having been there). Never (if it can be helped) run across an open field, particularly if it's near an air field or military base. Sounds obvious but I'm amazed at what I see players do. I haven't personally killed anyone on sight, prefering to stay out of sight and let them pass, or in some cases chat before parting ways. I'm not against killing other players, but it's not the aspect I'm after in this game so I'll only be killing if it seems like the only option. So far I've been able to stay out of most other player's way. One other probably obvious tidbit but, when I get ready to log out for the night, I try to find some place out of town and well concealed before doing so.

Like Berezombie said, Regular = 3PP ON, Hardcore = 3PP off

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
moparspanky replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
I am new to Dayz and am thoroughly addicted. It was clear from the first second I needed to learn how to navigate, figure out where I was on the map, and survive. I did lots of Google research, and played many hours at the same time. I have been an avid Xbox360'er for years, playing single player play through s and online (COD for example). This is my first MMO and my first PC game since 2000 (starcraft). The realism and difficulty of the game is what makes it so appealing, in my opinion. I keep a printed map and http://dayzdb.com/map#3.053.033 up in a browser, and having a compass is a huge help (obviously). I've had some character reset issues, which have been frustrating, but honestly it ended up helping me figure out how to gear up quickly. This is an amazing game, despite it's being in Alpha. -
that's interesting. My son and I play together and he still has all his gear but I get reset. We have our own accounts and play on the same servers.
-
Has happened to me three times now, last night being the most recent. If the point of the Alpha is to identify bugs, then I've identified one. My character keeps re-starting, and it's random. I can play for a week straight and it happens, and I can play for a few hours and it happens. I always join public servers.

Random Character Wipes/Resets when Joining the same Official Server? [Possible Bug/Discussion]
moparspanky replied to alaskafish (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Here's a very weird occurrence. My son and I each have accounts and play together. Last night, my character was wiped entirely and his character ended up with some of my gear. This was after us taking a 4 day break from playing, our last game having been Sunday evening. We were pretty well set too. it's my 3rd character wipe. Honestly I'm ok with bugs, but losing all my stuff after hours (and even days) of playing and accumulating good stuff is very frustrating, particularly given that the game is a survival game that hinges on your gear. Only up side, I am really getting to know the map.
