I'm against any kind of moral judgement of the actions of the players, specially in a game that takes place in an enviroment of anarchy, morality shouldn't be something to take into account, every player is a monster that tries to survive other monsters, it's the survival of the fittest in all its glory, it doesn't matter if what you do is 'right' or 'wrong', it only matters if you survive or not. No one should have advantages or disadvantages based on the morality of their actions (which is different for everyone), in my opinion one of the goals of this game and an ultimate success, would be making players to do things that they don't want to do. Players that kills on sight makes sense in this game, you shouldn't care about anyone else but yourself, your friends are not going to be there for long.

[Be nice] How do you torture people in days?
JonEllisDee replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
Personally I don't torture people, I play as lone wolf and if I have to kill someone I prefer to do it quickly and get the hell out of there. I think that 'propa torture' needs of a group to be fun, what's the point of me finding someone, restrain him/her and perform a rectal exploration with a zuchini if there's no one but the victim to share a laugh? Also, I think that some peeps are taking the issue too far, you can't do Guantanamo shit on DayZ, we call torture to force feed a rotten fruit, making someone drink desinfectant, break someones leg and make the call for Z's dinner, it is a role play thing and personally I don't have any problem with it, it adds a lot to the game in terms of immersion, in my opinion it is just another stress factor and this is a 'survival horror' game. Also, anyone that have played Skyrim have done worse things, any daedric quest is good example. -
Best advice I could give is... play ArmA 3.
-
This is something that will be fixed when they implement DX10/11 and be able to render HDR night time, it will closer to how nights looks in ArmA 3.

Stuck in a room that I am unable to get out of..t
JonEllisDee replied to TracksuitHitman (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
Try going prone and vaulting close to the walls of the room, hopefully you'll find a sweet spot that you can go through, fall off the building and die. -
Multiple Problems With DayZ With Lag
JonEllisDee replied to TrentonxKiller's topic in Troubleshooting
It doesn't but you can force it to use ArmA 3 compatibilities bits via Nvidia Inspector. -
Your edited images looks far more pleasant to me, I'm a sucker for that kind of ARs, I also like your edits your sky looks quite better. I usually try to do all of this via shaders avoiding any edit when it's possible, if not PS is always a good friend This is my setup for Dear Esther, wish I could make something like this with DayZ https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8121/8693040213_0df2130d6d_o.png https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8278/8699632408_c47b9cd326_o.png

Dayz FPS issue on a Pretty HIGH END machine
JonEllisDee replied to tiktoc's topic in Troubleshooting
Ermmmmm... Dark Souls 2 is not a good example of anything dude, it is PS3 port, a highly underdeveloped one, the textures resolution is lame, the enviroment art is terrible, you see blocky geometry everywhere, there are areas with so obvious texture tilling that makes you wonder if they had any kind of art leading in the project and we better don't start talking about its prehistoric shading. In a PC visual context, DS2 is one of the worse examples that could have picked up, technologically speaking, it is lame. -
With so little information, I'm afraid we won't be able to provide any advise, 'Can't launch DayZ' is a quite vague description of the problem, also, we gotta guess your setup, we only know it's win 8.1 The best way of dealing with this is using the bug tracker http://feedback.dayzgame.com/ Read this first http://feedback.dayzgame.com/how-to-user.html

Can't find Dayz.cfg for better FPS rate
JonEllisDee replied to justaskydiver's topic in Troubleshooting
I think that devs disabled the use of the 'other profile' and the changes made at DayzProfile makes no effect. I was playing with a view distance of 3000 but the game is showing not more than 1000 at the moment. -
Servers goes down for maintenance every wednesday from 7 AM to 10 AM GMT. Don't freak out, you won't see online servers for some hours.

In DayZ FXAA uses a sharp filter that makes the borders more noticeable, imo SMAA looks more precise but it is a matter of taste really, they perform almost the same, so testing and decide which you like best is all you have to care about, best way to notice the difference is over foliage. Messing with Control Panel is safe, if you make a mistake you can always load the default Nvidia profile clicking at the 'Restore' buttom at the right of the programs list.

Awesome man! I'm really glad that you figured it out, enjoy the game and see ya in Chernarus :)

The visual impact of downsampling is huge and it is really cool that RV gives you the option to do it nice and easy, usually you gotta do it via external applications or drivers. That said, rendering at 4K is only useful to take screenshots at the moments, I get around 5-8 fps rendering 4k and killing zombies at that framerate is not fun xD Speak for yourself, YOU might not need it but I do.

Those specs are more than capable of running the game and the GT640 can handle it no probs, the problem is that somehow, it sounds like you're using the videocard integrated in your motherboard (Intel HD Graphics) and you don't want to use it instead of your GT640, you may have your monitor plugged into the Intel device, a really common mistake as many monitors has VGA connectors and the user plugs it into the connector that fits, the problem is that not all the GT640 cards includes the VGA connector, it depends on the manufacturer, they usually have 2 DVI and a HDMI ports, others adds one VGA connector, but most come with an adapter to plug VGA connectors to the DVI one. Before wasting money on unnecesary upgrades, check your PC connections.

Deleted all the contents of my "DayZ other profile"
JonEllisDee replied to Judas666's topic in Troubleshooting
That profile has no use at the moment, at least is not there for me since a couple of updates, so don't worry about it, you can tweak your game using 'username.DayZProfile' located in Documets/DayZ folder. -
I can't stop killing fresh spawns.

LOL, the only thing that seems to be confirmed is that you're a coward. I hope that you find a squad of crazy russians wanting to give you banan! -
Kickass PC setup and weird performance
JonEllisDee replied to pabloottawa's topic in Troubleshooting
i7 [email protected] SLI 2xGTX580 1.5MB I'm getting solid 50s fps at the forest (at some remote parts of the map it can go to 70s), 30-45 at small/mid towns and it can drop to 20s on larger cities. -
Kickass PC setup and weird performance
JonEllisDee replied to pabloottawa's topic in Troubleshooting
Once you hit the apply changes buttom the profile saves and you can close the program, it always shows the global default profile on startup and you won't have to make any other changes unless you want to. I hope it works for you, it made a huge difference for me. -
It might be a driver problem, the last Nvidia beta drivers made my cards and cpu get really hot while playing DayZ, had to revert to the last stable ones.

Kickass PC setup and weird performance
JonEllisDee replied to pabloottawa's topic in Troubleshooting
One thing is enabling SLI in Nvidia Control Panel and another one is forcing DayZ to use Arma 3 SLI bits via drivers, if you don't do this, the game will only use one of your GPUs, even with SLI activated in NCP. The only way that I know to do this is using Nvidia Inspector (http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvidia_inspector_download.html), creating a new profile for DayZ and use Arma 3 SLI compatibility bits. -
Kickass PC setup and weird performance
JonEllisDee replied to pabloottawa's topic in Troubleshooting
You can enable SLI via Nvidia Inspector, ArmA 3 profiles works great with DayZ, also, you can tweak the launch options and ini files. -

'Cause it is really unfinished? Had you 70 FPS at BF4 Beta?
