    Ruined stuff when shoot me?

Be careful with this as the backpack is currently calculated as the chest hit box... stuff may get damaged still.

I'm not trying to start a war

It's simply a matter of choice. It's been left in so people can choose how they want to play, and how visceral of an experience the player wants to have during any given play session. 3rd person, by its very nature creates a distanced, more detached, less intense experience for the average gamer. 1st person, also by it's nature, creates a much more inclusive, hands on and a "in the driver's seat" experience. Both experiences have been left in and are definable at the server level (hardcore/regular) so that the player can choose his experience type. I usually play Hardcore as I prefer the more visceral, white knuckled experience it can provide at times, but I do enjoy 3rd person at times too (it's more relaxing to me) when I've had a white knuckled day in the real world. I like having the choice to play how I want to play depending on how I feel.
  3. Dean\BI need to take a little bit of time and tidy up a tad in the PR department. Understanding that a little investment there will help maintain a good relationship with the community for the long haul and the ups and downs of the development process (alpha to retail). Get back to Devblogs and podcasts. Put some interns on it. Would give them an easy way to keep everyone on the same page and clear up the bigger community questions as they pop up. Give potential and current players an opportunity to see when to jump on board, or come back to Chernarus if they've taken a break for awhile. Not everyone has the time and patience required to stay up to date via twitter, redditt, this site and Steam. Devblogs and podcasts would allow people with less time in their lives to be in the know as well.
  4. We could perhaps collect a visual catalog of the aftermath of the infection... maybe there is still a story to be found in the changes they've made for Chernarus+.
  5. Just wanted to post this to get some feed back. TBH I don't know much about what is considered lore for the DayZ world, so please bare with my ignorance of such story elements if they already exist in the DayZ community. I wanted to practice some writing and this is what I came up with: Where to fucking start? The whole mission is FUBAR now... We were just supposed to drop the grunts on the ground with the team of docs and the goofy looking scientists, fly over watch, and then scoop up anybody that wasn't staying after they made contact with the local authorities...Easy duty, for a Super Stallion aircrew, right? If we had only known what the hell we were getting ourselves into... Our boat, the USS Peleliu, an LHA class naval vessel, full of U.S. Marines and Sailors, had been diverted on short notice to provide air support/ humanitarian aid for some kind evacuation in Chernarus air space. For about a week, there had been a complete blackout of communications coming from Chernarus after there had been reports of some kind of outbreak, it'd been global news. Something was very wrong in that part of the world, but noone outside of Chernarus new what it was. Then we got the call, and our big boat changed course towards Russian controlled waters as per their governments request. For some reason, the Russians didn't have any nearby naval vessels that were available to help. Something about the majority of the military resources, being “predisposed” at the time. Now we know why... I imagine the higher ranking officers knew full well what they were sending us into when they developed the flight and mission plans. It was a really short brief on those plans and what they actually knew. Where to go, what to do when you got there, and where to go once you were done...sounded simple enough. The brass was pretty tight lipped about most of what they knew... but tensions were obviously higher since the request had come in. The entire coastal region was to be considered NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) positive and everyone going ashore was issued the proper equipment, consisting of gas masks, hoods and gloves in addition to our normal combat flight gear. We were parked ten miles offshore to avoid possible aerial contamination and about two hours before take off a smaller vessel made contact with our ship. That's when we got to see the eggheads that we would be flying in country. After the pilot's pre-flight checks were complete, two squads of heavily armed grunts accompanied by three naval doctors and seven Russian scientists, all decked out for some kind of chemical attack, filed on to our CH-53e. The rear ramp closed. The ground crew gave an all clear and a quick salute to the pilot as the three engines on our bird roared to life as we lifted off the bobbing deck of the Peleliu, and began our flight towards the shore. What we saw coming into Chernogorsk... it was almost beyond description. You could see 'em from almost a mile off shore. Like the shimmer off of hot pavement, the city seemed to writhe on its own. As we flew closer, it looked like the city streets were covered with maggots...only they weren't maggots. They were people... ...and they were devouring the city. To be continued...
  6. And well they should stay concentrating on Chernarus+! I love the details they are adding that bring to life the back story of what happened to the map. Someone said that Hicks mentioned a new large prison going in at some point...maybe in the northwest corner? Would be cool to see the DayZ concept applied to a place like NYC or London though. It's probably not very feasible without building a completely new engine, designed specifically for that type of setting.
  7. Urban survival, in a huge metropolis would be a crazy contrast to the countryside of Chernarus. Picking rats out of garbage cans like berries in a bush!
  8. I would argue that maybe they are trying to maximize item count to stress code as much as possible to expose the cracks in it to see how much it can really handle for the end game. Thus our current inconvenience provides the Team with an opportunity to see where the actual "MMO" (used loosely) parts of the engine/server architecture could use some help under real world conditions. This then leads to a better, more polished game at the end.
  9. There is that video from last year with Rocket demonstrating the radio (not the walkie talkie) and how it was picking up broadcasts. He was playing 80's music on it while giving his demo in some other features. He talked about in game radio stations and stuff, luring zombies and people with the radio... Leaving it on and setting it somewhere to attract attention... Kinda made a big deal about it... I would say at the least, if we figure out that the stuff we are investigating now is hoax material, we should really try to bring it up with the Dev team as something they SHOULD do. Look how many of us are looking already... Look at how it's created a deeper interest in the history of the DayZ world amongst this small group of fans in our group and this site. The SA is basically a new IP and as a story driven game (we create our own stories in the DayZ world) the mod didn't have any context for the beginning of those stories. It has no background lore yet. The search for the history of Dayz would be an open ended side quest available to any player who wants to look for them and piece it together, as Dayz doesn't just hand the player anything. Some journals from the scientists and guards involved in the facility, several mysterious broadcasts, maybe something that gives us a clue as to how the outbreak affected the rest of the world (sequel potential) Just some thoughts...
  10. He doesn't seem to broadcast very long either. Who is he trying to reach? It's almost like it has to be someone that knows someone is looking/listening... I did notice that this one was a much cleaner sound... nothing like the sirens and background grit in the other one.
  11. Or we all spawn on the server and hand him several rounds...
  12. Isn't that patch supposed to hit the stable branch by the 5th?
  13. I wish my Great uncle was still alive, he was a signals guy in WW2... would be useful here!
  14. And an invite to the Steam group also! Unless I missed something....
  15. I could see that... that space is certainly large enough for one. It's pretty awesome that this is gonna unfold before our eyes!
  16. Thanks for getting these pics. That almost looks like the beginning of a new military base. With a tarmac.... the mystery continues!
  17. Can I get an add on steam please? kuma8877 Thanks rydekk and Crazykage for keeping things organized and setting up some basic rules of investigation. We are investigating a humongous crime scene, and your rules will help us sort fact from fiction.
  18. I didn't manage to get a full sweep done of that area NW of the NW airfield for new towers. I am posted up there in the woods though, and will continue looking around when I get a chance later tonight. I think maybe we should start documenting all the story/history related additions to the map as we find them. For example get some pictures of the crashed helicopter and those kinds of things and see what background we can deduce from those types of things as well. We could see if we can reconstruct the flow of the infection spreading across the map...
  19. That's a significant amount of extra terrain up there compared to the mod... I wonder whats up there, in those woods?
  20. Directly to the east of that "village" (if it's actually there) there is what appears to be a clearing in the middle of the forest that seems to have a slightly different topography/texture to it might be something to scout too. I hope to find a radio to use on my way up there. I will be doing all of my investigating on a full server if I can... hopefully I don't get shot on my way up there though!
  21. I'm gonna head up to the NW and take a peak for towers and HAM's. On the map you can see what must be a small town (if you follow the northern corner of the airfield towards the corner of the map) Before I head out, can anyone confirm if anything is there or is that a placeholder area for a new village? I'm going that way because we have 3 other towers close to each of the other corners... why not there? And that layout looks weird, what are those segmented sections of road? I'll try to record with Shadowplay or get a screenshot if I run into anything. Do we have a side by side comparison of the Mod map vs the SA + map? can we figure out what's been added from an birds eye view? May give us some clues to what they are planning....
  22. I would imaging that some of the most powerful and rare gear would be found in the most advanced facitily... guarded by the largest population of zeds requiring teamwork to get the goods housed there. I suggest only visiting servers with very high player counts (near max if possible) to hopefully force the trigger point. This means some of the places will be total killzones like the airfield... I also suggest we try listening in near any of the set pieces that would be equipped with radios... for example the beached tanker and crashed helicopter. Keep your eyes open too, when running through the woods to see if we find any more radios stashed in the countryside. And we shouldn't forget that there are still additional spots that look like more structures could be placed like the last patch added the new city...
