I think I really like this idea. It feels very... traditional. Whilst I don't necessarily think it's crucial to have the zombies moving all that much slower (now is too fast, fo sho), I have to say that I completely forgot about infection. That's pretty much in every damned zombie-flick. What makes zombies so feared is not strictly because they're overwhelming. Once you understand their habits, you completely trump them in everyway. Once you have a small group of well armed people - you completely trump them. One may get through and it may cause some bleeding, but blood packs are so easy to obtain, and the same with bandages, that whatever damage you incur is easily rectified in a situation with a large group. What makes zombies so deadly is that one deadly bite, and you're infected. I can just imagine all the scattering to all the hospitals as you try and get your buddy, who has only a little bit of time left, some of those much needed supplies to counteract the infection. Certainly, though, zombie speed and clipping will -need- to be sorted out before a mechanic like this is implemented - but goddamn I like it!

A shame that the hosltering could be defunct due to the engine D: Certainly, though, I agree that a great many of my player kills are simply due to self preservation, and indeed, rightly so. Once I feel that I can trust that this guy won't shoot me, even for a moment - I'm happy. It's the unfair feeling of it all that gets people kind of frustrated And whilst I agree that even a guy like me could unholster my gun in less than three seconds, I figure you need good time for the player to react. I guess the best way I can justify my standpoint is in film. It's a method of, where in high-action scenes where a lot is going on, the footage will be slowed ever so slightly, so that you can comprehend all the significant movements on the screen. For those interested, it's usually slowed down just enough so that the human brain plays it back in real time, yet picks up on all these little details. I figure the same would apply in game, when making actions that are otherwise pretty swift, a little bit more comprehensible, and easier to react to.

a MAJOR game change without changing any current mechanics
Scerun replied to FinalJustice's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sounds like you want to better facilitate clan-play. Which is alright. Only problem is that by implementing your methods, you're facilitating clan play and otherwise destroying solo/casual-group play. Not to mention this will instead of being a koS game, you turn it into a glorified team death match where the guys who spend insane amounts of time on the game hold the monopoly over everything. That's not O.K. I understand that to an extent you need to better reward players who spend a lot of their time playing. That makes sense; but instead you'll be suggesting a world where clans are best rewarded, and subsequently prevent all others from getting any kind of playability. A world where bandit trolls and clans run amok, ruining the experience for the rest of the 90% of the playerbase. No, thanks. -
Daddy, what did you do before the zombies came? Professions

The more I hear of these ideas, the more they grow on me. I think. The only thing I'd say is that there should not be any skil-sets that enhance shooting abilities - that'd either encourage certain types of people to shoot people more, and would make other skill-sets feel a bit useless in that regard - in a non-fun kinda way. Doctor skill sets sounds good Mechanic Skill sets sound good Perhaps make an available skill set that is average at everything, too, so that the lone wolves can still access a large part of the available skills in the game. -
I KNOW you're an exploiter if you disagree
Scerun replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nothing should ever be implemented that can affect even the supposedly miniscule numbers of people you think would be fodder to your system. There should never be any implementation that would accidentally put unlucky people in the crosshairs, not matter how small the number is. A system that does as such, is a system that does not work, and should find a peaceful place to die. -
Added it. May have forgot... Ahem

I think this is actually a pretty decent idea. Ofcourse with slower zombie speed.

I want this.

Well I've been thinking a bit about how stand offs between two players go. You both stumble out into the open without noticing the other guy's presence. You stop. You turn. You point your guns at eachother. Neither of you wish to shoot the other guy. You both have your guns aimed at the other guy's head, because that's the smart thing to do. It's just a case of who's gonna shoot first, because shooting last is a bad thing to do - this is because no one gets to shoot last. Ever. You use voice chat, but he doesn't respond - maybe he has voice chat turned off. Maybe he's deaf. Maybe he's dumb. Neither of you is really willing to type in chat, because that leaves you vulnerable. You continue to look at eachother. The other guy shoots you first and you're sat there wondering why you didn't usher his brains somewhere admist the background scenery before he did unto you. So here's a little solution I figured: Howzabout, if you're shot in the head, your character discharges his weapon almost instantly. Like a reflex or someshat. Just one bullet. For body shots/legs/whatever there can be a 5 or 10 percent chance of your weapon discharging likewise. I figure that this would make you more willing to work things out a little bit with the guy you're aiming at, because if you shoot him in the head, he'll shoot you back in the head. Ofcourse, you could shoot him elsewhere, but he'll return fire whether by auto-discharge, or the fact he thinks it's a pretty good idea (which it is). I can just picture the scene already. Two guys walking slowly from one another, trying to keep their aim over the other guy's head incase they shoot. I call that some tense motherfucking shit. Furthermore, if you're surrounded by a group of enemies, you might just get out there alive if you stay aimed at one of their buddies!

An Idea that will make this game much more realistic and tactical

Deny saving tents/vehicles outside of map.
Scerun replied to Paah (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While I agree that they shouldn't be able to save vehicles outside the map, I sympathise that there isn't anywhere you can really hide a base, seeing as the map is small, and ultimately one-dimensional. By that I mean you only get to explore the surface landscape - there are no underground locations or the like to hide out of plain-sight. It tends to be rolling fields. No natrual valleys and cliffs to obscure your sight, or caves. Ya know. -
I'd like to find a shovel with which I can dig two holes for my legs so that I may take the aspect of a tree, or bush, or any other variation of foliage for that matter. For the next hour my character would be soaking up all possible nutrients from the soil, therefore replenishing food, water and blood meters. Don't give my this whining about being vulnerable either, you goddamn carebears - if you wear a ghillie suit and you'll be A-O.K. Sorry if this is a repost.

Why stop there? Give EVERYTHING BIGGER BOOBS

I'd like to add that if this is done during a sunny day, then the process would be more effective and therefore faster. At night the benefits of being a tree would be substantially worse.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Scerun replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is a really great insight into making the game more about the right kind of survival. Survival from the world - not from the other players. Thanks for taking the time to write this up! -
Looks to me like you got shot

Weapon Personalization (maybe not what you're think)

This would be awesome. Imagine finding a gun that you thought was lost over a week ago on some dead corpse you found in the middle of the woods. -
