Yeah, but as far as I see.. he had no reason to trust you & if you'd been trying to avoid conflict, when faced with an armed player I would expect you to retreat, not stick around. I judge players on actions rather than words and most of the time people in an inferior position consider "friendly" to mean "give me an opening", so I would never trust a player saying that whose actions I viewed with any degree of suspicion. His only real mistake was missing. Your mistake was trying to enter a building you knew was populated by at least one armed player, instead of beating a retreat. Most players would take you trying to enter that building as a hint towards aggression.

At an airfield? Nobody is friendly, if he he doesn't have a gun now, he might in 5 seconds.

People never really stop to think

....and then people ask why you shot them when they're fresh spawns. Maybe it had something to do with them trying to run right up to me with their fists up? -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately, while I agree with you that this would be nice.... I doubt we'll see something like that happening, simply because it would be much more demanding than more traditional systems of calculating damage based on hit location. We're most likely stuck with the old "1 hit in the head, 2 or 3 in the body" for weapons like the M4, just like videogames have been doing since the dawn of time. edit: If only 2 or 3 hits with an m4 did kill a player reliably, I doubt we'd be having topics like this! I know I have a friend on DayZ who claims to have been hit around 10 times with 5.56 and managed to walk away from the engagement and I've shot people multiple times with an FNX only to have them crawl or walk away from me, bleeding from every single inch of flesh on their body. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
TheScruffyBandit replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Agree completely, it's getting out of hand and given the nature of the game with permi-death it's far more damaging than in other multiplayer games. I love the game, but more needs to be done to stop hackers and glitchers ruining it. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Exactly. Firearms are currently drastically underpowered, the m4 is just the most obvious in terms of per shot damage. I can only imagine this has been done in favor of balance. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Of course, the problem we're seeing here with the crossbow doing more per shot damage than the m4 isn't really the crossbow that is faulty, it's the m4 and all firearms and even melee weapons, frankly. In real life, if someone shot you at 5 meters with a single round of 5.56mm in the chest, you would almost certainly die without rapid and major medical attention, in fact even WITH medical attention from a well equipped and trained medical center you would be lucky to survive. In the world of DayZ where most of us have a handful of rags and bandages, perhaps a damaged saline bag any gunshot or major melee wound would almost certainly prove fatal. This is true for every firearm, even including .22 LR. Being shot in the chest by a single round of .22 would still almost certainly require surgery to remove the bullet and any traces of clothing which got pulled into the wound along with it, stitches and enough luck that the bullet didn't hit anything so important, such as lungs, heart or major blood vessels that you managed to survive long enough to receive treatment. As it stands, a shotgun blast at point blank range to the chest can be cured entirely with a bag of rice, a handful of rags and a change of t-shirt. Obviously when you think about it like that, there are some serious flaws in the games mechanics compared to real life. It's also worth noting that the game does not model for wound size or hydrostatic shock at all. Being hit with a large, high velocity rifle round even in the leg could cause ruptures of blood vessels all over the body like an exploding hydraulic system put under too much pressure. It's also obvious that a chest round from a more powerful round like 7.62x54r should bleed much more heavily than for example, a busted nose from a fresh spawn fist fight... however as far as I'm aware, they result in exactly the same blood loss over time. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
I didn't say that crossbows out perform 5.56 NATO, only that there's no reason why a crossbow cannot in theory match the kinetic energy levels of a bullet, something you just confirmed by admitting that most hunting crossbows are similar in terms of kinetic energy to .22 rimfire rounds. Did you misunderstand my post or something? -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
357 magnum has a muzzle velocity of between 1200 and 1600 feet per second and weigh between 110 and 180 grain. a 151lb composite crossbow (Barnett ghost) has between 350 and 400 feet per second, however the bolt + head weigh much more than the magnum round at around 500 grain. -

TheScruffyBandit replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
Try firing off a 60 crossbow bolts in 5 seconds. Also, a bolt travels much slower than a bullet, but it weighs much more, It's quite possible to develop similar levels of kenetic energy with a crossbow as with chemically propelled firearms. -
5 things that really need to be addressed.
TheScruffyBandit replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
1)Zombie AI. 2)Spawns clustered together feeding deathmatch mentality. 3)Hackers and glitchers being extremely prevalent. 4)3pp abuse. 5)Lack of scarcity. -
It's not the amount of RAM, it's the single channel mode. DayZ standalone is written for 32bit and can only address 4gb of memory total, including system RAM and GPU memory, however the engine and by extension the game is MUCH more sensitive to system memory bandwidth than any other game I've played, so effectively halving it by running single channel mode will have a crippling effect on performance.

4:3 FoV on a 16:9 screen gives me eye cancer, but atleast you're not switching between that and fish eyes, still it's unnecessary, you could easily have made those shots without the extra zoom from the silly FoV. Also, Zeder... There's no point complaining about KoS on an airfield. When you go to NEAF, NWAF or Balota, you should be expecting a firefight, people do not take chances trying to be your friend in high value death traps like those.

Weapons need to spawn with atleast 1 magazine in them.
TheScruffyBandit replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
the m4 and its magazines in general are too common by far & Pistol magazines should be far more common than they currently are. I'd make military 30+ round magazines fairly rare drops in barracks and prison buildings and spawn 10 round CMAGs in higher end civilian locations at a low % spawn rate. -

TheScruffyBandit replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I doubt that will be much of an issue, IIRC AK74 and 74u use the same magazines, as do 5.56mm nato rifles due to STANAG. I'm pretty sure the SCAR uses a STANAG mag, right? -
I never really thought about that, but you know... that seems to make sense with my experience of audio glitches in DayZ.

TheScruffyBandit replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I think the problem is more that by the time people find a magazine for a .22 rifle, silenced pistol or even a 1911 they're already at a military location and they're swimming in m4 magazines and rifles. -

TheScruffyBandit replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
which is why I suggested .22 magazines should spawn in the same locations as speedloaders/snaploaders for the shotguns, blaze95 and 357 revolver, most of the places that can spawn .22 rifles also have the potential to spawn those items, such as the office buildings, piano house and construction sites. -
I almost always carry a pistol, as a backup weapon when using an SKS or (rarely) m4 and as a close combat weapon for when I'm being a Mosin sniping arsehole, which is most of the time, honestly. :D Generally I go 357 revolver with the SKS or m4 to save inventory space, since I won't need a stack of ammo AND magazines and FNX45 when I'm using a Mosin, loot permitting. I also like having a weapon capable of mounting a weapon flashlight of some type for night servers (although I don't know why I bother, considering everyone gamma exploits anyway).

TheScruffyBandit replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I made a thread about the .22 pistol and rifle magazines in suggestions a while back, recommending they move the magazines into civilian loot pools, it seemed generally well received and would more or less solve your concerns i think. Acolyte said he'd poke a few people and see what could be done about the issue, anyway... so hopefully the civilian weapons will see more use in the future if something like that comes in. As for weapons spawning with magazines already in them, I wouldn't mind seeing M4s or pistols with empty magazines but in worn/damaged/badly damaged condition (as if the owner had died after running out of rounds after a pitched battle with zeds) on the floors in barracks and military builds, as a fairly rare drop and having the stored M4s under bunks spawn without magazines but in better condition. Would feel realistic, but for the sake of balance would need to be in very limited numbers. As for making all weapons spawn with magazines, I'd prefer we avoid that.. Generally gun owners don't store their ammo, magazines and firearm in the same location and you wouldn't keep a loaded weapon in a barracks under your bunk, that'd be a great way to get a section 8. Anyway, we already have the SKS, Mosin, Blaze, 357 magnum, and the shotgun/sawnoff that don't require magazines, if they move the 10 round 10/22 and .22 pistol magazines into the same spawn pools as blaze/shotgun and revolver speed loaders, I think that's more than enough. I do think it's silly that .22 magazines currently only spawn in military loot pools, but I don't see the need to spawn the weapons with a magazine already in them. -
Base buildings needs to come.. Fast.

I'm so looking forward to finding someone building a great base, waiting till just before they finish it and then sniping them and taking it as my own. -

Melee is now a Joke in Experimental- Fists more effective then Fire-Axe
TheScruffyBandit replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I'm not taking issue with that part of the post, but then I suspect you already know that. There is currently no unified way to track which glitches have been found and even if they have, this is the general forums and surely it would be the correct place to discuss those issues. I'd consider it rather poor form for a moderator to be telling a poster providing feedback on and discussing a current issue that they should stick to stable branch considering that for most of us here the moderation team are our first line of contact with Bohemia. It sends the wrong impression. -
Join = Kick servers. Remove them!
TheScruffyBandit replied to Colonel Seven's topic in General Discussion
We shouldn't NEED to report them. If these servers are being name checked for offensive, racist or sexual names then the companies providing them are already well aware that the server violates the terms of service for DayZ. For that matter, we haven't been provided with proper tools for reporting servers, a simply two click "report" and then "confirm" at the server menu under the details tab would be easy to implement if anyone besides the players cared about this issue. -

Are we to assume it's Bohemia's official line that they don't want feedback on issues with experimental branch then? <_<
