magnum=worst gun to use on zombies?

Magnum is an anti-player weapon. It's compact and has a huge punch, it'll drop a fully geared player fast if you get the drop on them but the downside is it is VERY loud. If you want a pistol for zeds, Amphibia S or any of the 9mm, 380 auto or 45acp weapons will be better for zombies, particularly if you find a pistol suppressor. Personally my anti-zombie weapon is an MP5k with a pistol suppressor on my 1pp character and It's working very well, since they're overspawning at the moment I'd highly recommend it as it also doubles as a fantastic breaching & "town" weapon when using a Mosin or SKS as a primary.

Has anyone managed to get a disease yet?

I got sick from drinking untreated water at low blood. I took anti-biotic, kept myself well fed and watered & the sickness didn't go away, but I also didn't die I just ended up stuck in grey limbo. I assume that means something isn't working right as I would assume I would either die or recover.

Don't let crafting destroy this game

After my next death I'm planning to do a Hannibal play-though and eat only human flesh, seems like the right time to do it.

What do you think about the new update .55

One issue I seem to be seeing is that with persistence enabled across all servers: Over time as people pick through the loot and take the high value items while nobody takes certain items such as spanners or weapons cleaning kits and so items nobody wanted stay in the economy for a long time (I have no idea how long it takes to purge an area or if that even happens). The selection process continues with people picking only the useful items from the re-spawned loot and it the loot pool gets progressively more stacked with undesirable items, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the re-spawning loot mechanic. I would imagine you can work around this by bagging up all the loot, moving it away and waiting for items to re-spawn (I've noticed people doing this at military loot sites before but it's not something I've tried personally, when I hit mil-loot I get in and get out as fast as is safely possible) but that seems time consuming and meta-gamish. I didn't like loot cycling on the mod either. I do like that items are becoming rarer, that's definitely a step in the right direction, but there's definitely some tweaking to do still.

What do you think about the new update .55

Well, I'm swimming in PM73 and MP5k, along with 5.45 ammo & PU scopes, however food seems MUCH rarer now, the zombies work okay on a good server with little desync but are a nightmare on a bad one. Some previously amazing loot spawns now seem junk while others have been boosted. side note: does the PM73 support the pistol suppressor? I kind of want to play around with it.

Impact of 3rd Party Comms (TS3, VENT, etc.)

3rd party comms are an issue for realism, it gives groups of players such as clans an unfair advantage since it's much harder to engage a large group when dead players can speak from the grave and guide your enemies onto your position, however I think it's something that would be extremely hard to fix. As for identifying players using third party comms: it's everyone in a group, or at least very close to 100%.

What do yu want in DayZ servers these days?

1pp, 20+ players, little to no desync and not run by a clan. I would say full day/night rotation but Night is pointless while the gamma exploit exists. There is no such thing as a PvE server in DayZ.

    in defence of FOV slider

There is no defending the ability to set FoV and Gamma on the fly, they're both open to exploitation and both are near universally exploited. I have not heard a single valid argument against a simple screen configuration utility which launched the first time the game was run to assist people in correctly setting gamma & FoV for their screens while removing the abuse inherent in the current system of on the fly adjustment through menus.

    Let's talk performance.

ARMA3 runs at a fairly stable FPS for me on my 4.5ghz 2500k and r9 270, so it's not impossible on RV family engines however I suspect that there will always be times in DayZ where server side will restrict FPS to below what most people would consider ideal.

    SKS or AKM?

I think the tents on the west side of myshkino are fairly high risk, they're extremely overlooked on all sides and are a perfect kill-zone for a decent LRS or PSO1 sniper, whenever I visit that spot I feel extremely exposed and vulnerable personally. My usual solution when I'm running with a friend is to have them loot up while I provide overwatch & keep an eye on the tree lines.

uk vest ruined in 2 hits

I lost a worn High-cap to a zombie earlier tonight, went from worn to ruined in a single hit. I think it's a known issue.

    SKS or AKM?

you can find 7.62x39 in police stations, UAZ wrecks and inside SKS stripper clips/CR527 magazines in civilian spawns though, if you're more of a survivalist who doesn't like visiting high risk areas, that makes the AKM or SKS a better option imo.

    SKS or AKM?

Main advantage for the SKS is you don't need to live on military spawn locations to feed it ammo, since it tends to burn less due to being automatic and the PU scope spawns in civilian loot and in my experience is more common than the AK optics. Personally, if you already have the AKM I'd stick with that. When you're breaching potentially contested buildings you'll be very glad for the rate of fire the AKM provides.

    Problems with current state

Weapons are easy to find once you get off the coast. If anything, they're too easy to get, I have a new gun within 5-10 minutes of dying more often than not.

    Missions and AI

Wasteland ARMA3/2 & ARMA2 DayZ epoch/overpoch servers would give you what you're looking for. The standalone won't (I hope) have AI missions running on the stock release. I hope complex base building and AI missions, traders ect. don't become popular on the standalone even on mods, I loved ARMA2 DayZ epoch but stops the game being a survival game and unfortunately "9000 vehicle, increased loot, trader safezone" DayZ epoch servers are the vast majority of mod servers that have a population because people play the path of least resistance.

    Mosin damage nerfed to oblivion

Killed a guy in Gorka from 200 meters with a single mosin round which hit him in the upper torso just this morning, I don't think they've changed the damage. Aim a little higher, if you hit lower torso, legs or arms you do less damage, could explain why you're having issues.

How do you solve the heating problem with ghillie?

I haven't used a Ghillie much, but when I was doing a Ghillie life I'd take a dip in a water source before engaging in the "jogging simulator" side of the game.

    Automatics>Snipers soon?

Personally I'm usually happy with an FNX, CR75, Ingraved 1911 or 357 magnum as an "close support and breaching" backup weapon when using a Mosin on no-backpack lives. The FNX and CR75 in particual work well for me because they can mag-dump fairly rapidly dispite being semi-automatic. A Mosin+LRS+Compensator, CR75/FNX a stack of 45 or 9mm ammo, a magazine for either gun and a stack or two of 7.62x51(54r) and I'm very happy with my gear usually, that said... I've only used a ghillie once so far and I don't particually like them since I feel they're currently overpowered, It goes against my sense of fair play I guess.

When will the Sway be fixed?

A good mosin nagant can be fairly accurate, but there aren't many perfectly preserved 91/30's knocking around anymore, for the obvious reasons of them being extremely old, military service rifles that have seen heavy use. I'd argue that most Mosin nagants that show real issues with accuracy are near completely shot out, arthritic old guns. After all, plenty of Russian snipers had good success with PEM & PU scopes during the second world war, i think that alone proves the gun itself isn't an inaccurate design. Even accounting for barrel damage I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Mosin that isn't accurate out to 300 meters which is the limit of ranging for the PU scope currently ingame & Ironsights anyway. I discount the LRS because I don't believe it should mount on the Mosin. I'd like to see condition effecting accuracy and the majority of older firearms, such as the mosins spawing in worn or damaged condition, I think that's a better solution than the current and IMO unrealistic weapon sway. I'd also like to see weapon steadying on rocks or other solid structures like walls, it has been done in ARMA mods and I'd love to see something like that added in DayZ.
  20. Generally my best "solo" weapon tends to be the SKS, since the PU scope is common and while it uses fairly rare ammo, it doesn't require a magazine and being semi-auto it encourages accurate fire and ammo conservation. I find the AKs tend to make me overconfident and I end up engaging groups at times when staying concealed would be wiser. When it comes to around town weaponry, the shotguns can be absolutely beastly. The fact that chernarus is a post-soviet state and as we know from ARMA2 has a history of military buildup means that finding military tier firearms isn't unreasonable. The only problem I have with the assault rifles currently is that they're very common on public hive servers due to server hopping and "we kick you" lootfarming clans on empty servers.

    Same mod-disaster like in Arma?

Modding is one of the best things about the ARMA series, getting them working can be a pain sometimes but it's well worth it.

    Frames per second = better?

I can't say I noticed anything, but I haven't run fraps and I haven't spent much time in big cities in the last day or two.

    Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)

Haven't seen a PAK or AUG, dispite often coming across helo crashes. Generally I get more M4s from killing duppers than I do from looting, tends to be more time effective. MP5 I find fairly often, mags too, but rarely do I find a mag AND mp5 in the same life, usually I don't pick them up.

"Friendly" Players who KOS behind your back.

KoS means kill on sight, not everyone who kills you killed you on sight. Perhaps they stalked you for 30 minutes to gain an advantageous position. Perhaps they watched you from the shadows to ascertain your disposition. Perhaps they tracked you for several kilometers across the map, hunting you without your knowledge. Perhaps they luled you into a false sense of security, then betrayed you for their own gains. I get tired of people using KoS to mean "the bad man killed me" as though, for some reason that killing people isn't a valid tactic within DayZ. Killing on sight means precisely and exclusively that the very first thing they did upon seeing you was kill you, without weighing up the situation or giving consideration to any other action besides shooting you.
  25. TheScruffyBandit

What is the nicest thing you have done in DayZ

I went down to the coast with a M4, SKS a backpack full of sawn-off shotguns, revolvers, Makarovs and a CR75, along with ammo/mags and gave each freshspawn I saw running the coastal road heading towards electro near Krutoy Cap a weapon, magazine (where applicable) & ammo. The intention was as a social experiment, to see how many people tried to kill me with the weapon I provided. I kept as much distance as possible, used cover to deny clear shots and retreated the second I gave them the weapon. Only one attempted to kill me and he foolishly fired a sawn-off at me from some 50+m away and then got an SKS round through his chest. It seems most people are KoSing out of sheer fear of getting KoS'd themselves, once they have a reason to trust you (and only a limited, extremely brief opportunity to betray you) they usually don't try anything dodgy! Science.
