Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
TheScruffyBandit replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Setting your FoV extremely wide when playing normally, to prevent people sneaking up on you. Setting your FoV extremely narrow when sniping, to provide additional magnification. No thanks, I don't want to hear people farting an burping constantly, also people would just run voip on a second system, like a laptop, tablet or smart phone and mute their in game microphone. -

That's what I'm referring to, yeah. I'm not a fan of 3pp anyway and I do still consider using the camera angle to view around a corner or over walls abuse, but obviously much more minor abuse than using the lean and camera positioning to see through solid walls. -

Wall peaking and using the camera angle to view things outside your characters normal field of view are two different problems, wall peaking is leaning and positioning your character in such a way that a wall becomes invisible and it's easier to do on third person mode. If you haven't encountered wall peaking, you're very lucky. It happens on first person too, however it's harder to do and much harder to get a good view with, luckily. edit: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=4002 has screenshots of what i'm talking about when I say wall peaking. The top picture is what generally happens in first person when you clip into a wall. Notice the much smaller area where the outside of the building is visible through the wall? The rest are what can happen in third person with some manipulation. -

I like night in dayZ too, just can't enjoy it currently because it's a matter of abusing gamma yourself or get killed because everyone else is. With locked gamma, everyone is on a level playing field and things like touches and weapon flashlights may be USEFUL for once. 3pp is the single most abused feature, it's far easier to wall peak in 3pp aswell as the obvious and near constant abuse of the camera angle. The gamma lock wouldn't cause you a problem, just reinstall the game to trigger the screen configuration again, I'm not talking about syncing this data to the steam cloud or anything, just removing the ability to edit gamma levels ingame and instead having a screen configuration on first launch after installing the game. Just because it can be worked around from outside the game doesn't mean we shouldn't work on stopping the abuse of the ingame gamma, it would still be an improvement. -

1: Remove 3pp view or use something like "4th wall" to stop abuse and lock the FoV to match the display resolutions native aspect ratio. 2: Lock the Gamma after a screen calibration on first launch. 3: Learn to live with it, not much you can do about 3rd party coms, best bet would be to introduce functional in game options for near silent communication like throat mics so those people who don't use voip aren't at such a great disadvantage. -
If it looks like bullshit and smells like bullshit then it's bullshit or so close an approximation of bullshit that we may as well just call it bullshit. Edit: You must be very proud, OP.

Removing spawns isn't the solution to people killing themselves to get back into PvP faster, longer respawn timers are. Character death should be a pain in the ass, even when you're not geared up, currently that's a major issue with this game: Nobody cares if they die.

I already made a thread about this (or at least the .22 magazines anyway) in suggestions and I believe acolyte is looking into it. Hopefully these weapons will see more use if the magazines spawn in civilian locations.

Carrying two primary Weapons without having one everytime in the hands
TheScruffyBandit replied to Colle's topic in General Discussion
I never carry two main weapons anyway, just a sidearm and a long gun. I'm hoping SMGs or at least micro SMGs like the skorpion and micro UZI are considered secondary weapons however. -
Because certain elements of the player base will throw the dummy out of the pram if it gets removed. Personally, I'd use it as a chance to identify them and march them all off to the guillotine, but I believe bohemia are too nice for crimes against humanity.

Streamers make Day Z SA look like so much action happens.

Pretty much, yep. -

Had some great fun myself messing with streamers. (In my defense, it has always been the ones who deserved it.) -
So after roughly 300 hours since I trusted my last random person...
TheScruffyBandit replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
DayZ playerbase summed up there grimey, I've been carrying around pistols, an axe and spare food for friendly freshspawns... too bad not one of them has been friendly. -

Sarcasm, but they did manage to get the game modified to help prevent us from knowing which server they're playing on... so, yeah. :D Interesting how steps got taken to protect a group of players who put themselves at a tactical disadvantage knowingly from getting killed by people playing the game legitimately. It's almost like the game got free advertising from them or something. -

You can't kill a streamer, it's against the ToS or something. -

Because they hop servers, role with a clan who abuses admin to loot farm or dupe gear more often than not. You've stumbled on the streamer's dirty little secret, or one of them anyway. They're giving people the wrong impression of this game and attracting players that the game would be better off without and to top it all off, they pushed the devs to unlock the steam account name from your dayZ name, making it damn hard to ban hackers and abusive types from servers. Guess that's the price of the free advertising they give, though.. right? -
If you could change one thing about SA right now....

The player base. -
I want to be scared - A discussion on horror and Dayz
TheScruffyBandit replied to hrdrok's topic in General Discussion
I like the idea of giving zombies the ability to tackle a player and pin him or her down, or to perhaps grab your legs, tripping you and bringing you to the ground, forcing the player to struggle free, get to their feet and regain their footing. Perhaps it would give us a reason to use 1 handed melee weapons instead of just grabbing the first axe we see, too... since it would be much harder to attack a zombie which is pinning you down with a large and cumbersome weapon such as an axe but a knife of screwdriver could be forced into their head. However I'm not sure this would work with the current weapon switching delay and clunkiness. -

Naw, I'm still getting audio glitches. -
It's alot easier for an admin to ban a hacker if he knows the guys name. It's a common complaint on these forums from server admins. I don't see how telling us who killed us and how after death would effect gameplay at all anyway, sure it's not exactly realistic but neither is being reincarnated 30 seconds later back on the coast so I'd say that ship has sailed.

This little hack is getting out of hand to be honest, I've dumped 2 of these magazines into the ocean already this week and I was shot at and eventually killed by a group of people who obviously didn't need to reload (since they must have fired off at least 300 rounds between them, while failing at hitting me with full auto M4 spray). Hopefully it can be resolved soon.

How often do you find a Long Range Scope?
TheScruffyBandit replied to TheRealDen's topic in General Discussion
All the time on dead bodies of people who don't pay enough attention to their surroundings and fire off their weapons needlessly, giving away their location. -

TheScruffyBandit replied to hrdrok's topic in General Discussion
I must be weird then, the idea of being eaten alive doesn't scare me any more than any other method of death. Doesn't particularly matter to me how I die, be it a bullet, a snack for a hoard of undead or old age, the scary thing about death is not existing anymore, not how painful the process might be. That said, I do want the zombies fixed so they pose some level of threat without being immersion breakers (which they currently are), because everytime one respawns in front of me, runs through a wall or sharks through a floor, it reminds me that I'm playing a videogame and my tension levels drop right down again. -

TheScruffyBandit replied to hrdrok's topic in General Discussion
The scariest thing about DayZ will never be zombies, it's scary because of what people become when society breaks down, which is far more chilling. The zombies are just the trigger that set events in motion, but the real terror comes from never knowing if there's some asshole around the corner who's willing to kill you for a tin of beans, or worse some maniac who'll slaughter you just because he gets a kick from it. Even worse knowing that, somewhere in the back of your mind when you meet someone who seems friendly that some part of you is sizing them up, trying to see if they have anything you might need and if you'd be able to take that item from them.. and the creeping suspension that they're doing the exact same thing. If that isn't fear inducing, I don't know what is.- 81 replies

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
TheScruffyBandit replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Capitalism works, it's the only way to encourage fairness and people with money are intrinsically good, fair minded people! you're not a communist are you? YOU GOD DAMN TERRORIST! See you in Guantánamo Bay comrade. But seriously, you're kind of correct... it serves valve and bohemia's purposes to perform somewhat of a balancing act, if the cheats get completely out of hand then it would keep legitimate players away and cost them money, however until things approach that breaking point, any real effort to curb cheaters isn't going to be cost effective. That's just the way things are, it's the same for every game, no company is going to spend money unless not doing so would cost them more.
