Black shirt, anti-stab vest, black trousers, black baseball cap. -
It's a crying shame people can't be trusted to play games fairly, but that's human nature I guess. ;)

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
TheScruffyBandit replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
It's a discussion on Metagaming in DayZ and third person is clearly metagaming so It's not entirely off topic, however I do agree that this shouldn't become another 3pp argument, as you said we do have another thread specifically for that element, this one is more general. -

Sure it does. The current implementation of the third party view unbalances PvP, Just because the way it's currently unbalanced suits you doesn't mean it won't or indeed shouldn't be fixed. [] Just because the 1pp servers exist doesn't mean unbalanced and unrealistic behavior should continue on the 3pp hive, not everyone who plays on 3pp is as happy as you with the current mechanics you need to get out of the mindset that this is strictly a 1pp vs 3pp issue when it clearly isn't, It's an issue of balance verses the ability to camp, observing an area from completely risk free location. From the point of view of a "1pp purest", I'd prefer 3pp got removed entirely, however arguments in favor of *fixing* 3pp, which dispite your protests is clearly and evidently required isn't a 3pp purest augment it is intact an argument in favor of improving and balancing the 3rd person servers. -

Don't get me wrong, I'd like it if everyone played DayZ without the meta-stuff like third person and voip, where people roleplayed and valued the life of the character rather than just the equipment that character had. Given an in game whisper quiet radio system for example, I'd use that over VOIP software. I just don't see it happening. There's always going to be someone who breaks that mold because they want to win and once that happens, it snowballs into an arms race to get and maintain parity. -
I'd like to see it coupled with longer respawn timers to discourage suicidal newspawns from just jumping off a building to get an electro/balota spawn.

There's a big difference between "you need to use this software to join the game" and "You must not use *list of programs here*" though. Anyways, If I want to skype call my friend down under while playing some video games, why shouldn't I? I payed for my computer I don't much care for someone else telling me how I can use it. We're not talking about third party programs that interact with the games files, such as hack kits, so typical terms of use agreements wouldn't be applicable. It could also have a knock on effect for streamers (which would be a silver lining!) since they're technically using a form of 3rd party communications software too. It's completely unworkable as far as I'm concerned and even if something like this that did get pushed through, the player base would work around it withing half an hour. It's a losing battle, no matter how I look at it. I'd rather the devs didn't waste their time on a losing battle like VOIP and instead focused on things like wall leaning/peaking, redesigning objects so that they provide the same level of concealment regardless of graphical settings and the FoV thing. -
Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
TheScruffyBandit replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure it is *possible* but it's bordering on being spyware. Plus, I often have Skype running in the background while playing DayZ and I don't even have any DayZ players on my skype friends list, I don't see why DayZ should be permitted to tell me what I can and cannot do with the perfectly legitimate software on my computer. Now, I do use TS3 when I'm playing with friends, I freely admit that. However there are currently no real in game alternatives, add in throat mics, earpieces and expand on the gesture system and I'd most likely use that, simply for immersion. It's morally shaky ground to tell people what other legal and legitimate software they can use on their computer while playing a game and even if we're willing to accept that, it wouldn't stop anyone in a world where everyone has numerous computer systems ranging from desktops to smart phones, I have my laptop running when I'm playing DayZ anyway, for checking the map... it would take me all of 2 minutes to work around any block on voice over IP software, if I wanted to that is. The solution as I said before isn't to force people to stop using it, because that's impossible... it's to give people a viable alternative, maybe they won't use it but at least those who do won't be at a massive disadvantage anymore. -

Considering I was just on a server with 30ish people playing, handing out firearms to newspawns on their way to Electro only to have one of them cut off mid sentence and then the remainder of the message play back all of 5 minutes later (which scared the shit out of me by the way), I do believe them when they say bandwidth is a major concern. -

You have a very warped idea of what a good players is. Let me try to explain this for you; who would you consider the better footballer? a player who scored 20 goals in a season, but 5 of those goals came from dubious penalties or a player who scored 20 goals all from open play? Obviously (at least, it seems that way to me) the better player is the one who gets the same results without resorting to foul play and while being a good sportsman. If you can't understand that, then I have nothing else for you but pity and contempt in equal measures. -

If someone wants to pay out for a tri-screen setup, they're welcome to their advantage so long as their FoV matches their physical aspect ratio I don't care. However, I'm sick of fish eye'd, binocular visioned players abusing the slider. It's nothing to do with "gitting gud", It's extremely rare a player kills me, death in dayZ comes almost exclusively in the form of glitches for me. The problem is, there needs to be a level of standardization across the board when it comes to FoV and Gamma. If anything, if you need to abuse the gamma and FoV to "be gud" then you really do need to "git gud", because you're relying on a crutch, rather than skill. -

I play on 3pp sometimes when I'm just messing around. As for the attitude of first person players believing themselves to be superior to third person ones, perhaps it's posts of this quality that have encouraged that? -

3pp and wall glitching aren't the same thing, but when it comes to glitching the walls to turn them invisible: Just because everyone COULD cheat, doesn't mean they will or should. I'd prefer you didn't project your guilt onto me or the others in this thread. When it comes to clipping your camera into a wall to turn that wall invisible, that's exploitation of a glitch and I'm sure any fair minded person would consider it cheating. Some of us understand sportsmanship. B) -

They moved the spawn points around. CoD kids are nothing if not lazy, they won't run a 50km just to PvP and anyway, newspawns make for easier kills than armed players. -

I still think the best solution to third party comms is to give people a viable in game option to use. If players could find throat microphones and earpieces fairly commonly at airfields and military bases, they'd at least have the option to use those if they preferred and would let those of us more inclined towards roleplay enjoy the game without being at a major disadvantage once geared. -

Good point. Not everyone using voice coms while playing DayZ is doing so to other DayZ players on the same server. Forced open voice coms reminds me of something Final Fantasy XI use to do, It would force you to play in fullscreen mode and the game would close if you attempted to alt-tab out to check something else. I don't like the idea of a game forcing my computer to be a one purpose object while I'm playing it. -

How does that fix peaking through solid walls? It happens on hardcore too, it's just far worse on 3pp. )http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=4002) It also doesn't address that most new players will take the path of least resistance and go 3pp for the crutch it gives, I take it the devs haven't taken a look at the thread we had on this? There are several valid arguments as to why 3pp needs major adjustment, but I won't derail this thread with them, I'd only be parroting content from another thread anyway.
