My last few deaths in a nutshell. Death by hacker. Death by hacker. Death by glitch. Death by hacker. Death by lag. Death by game crash while unconscious/handcuffed/etc Death by hacker. Yeah this game can be rather frustrating.

In my opinion this game should focus on melee combat

No one likes a back seat moderator And I think you're blowing out of proportion the kinds of things people are mentioning. I don't think realistically we expect to be able to parkour around with a baseball bat while doing bruce lee moves. Blocking and a difficult-to-master parry system would be a welcome development to the melee system as opposed to the "omg click click click click + circle strafe" I mean if it means turning it into "soul caliburrrrr" fine whatever. Because the melee system now BLOWS. Like hardcore. I can't imagine them keeping it. People being athletic and dodging in a melee fight is not unheard of...if you got into a fight with someone would you just stand there and try to beat the crap out of each other while running in a circle? Thought not. -

Lol no caboose...it's not making "soul calibur" in DayZ. Games have been borrowing good game mechanics from other games since video games were a thing. A game utilizing mechanics or creating mechanics based off inspiration from another game's feature does not make it inherently that game. If no game ever payed homage or utilized similar mechanics from other games, a lot of our favorite titles wouldn't exist or would suck today. Come on....soul calubur? Jesus caboose lol. Normally your arguments sound a lot less...well...silly. -
Realistic weapon progression/spawn locations regarding the disaster
DeatHTaX replied to chickenmcfuggits's topic in General Discussion
Okay Gibz that's cool and all, but here's our point... The problem is not inherently with the number of milspawn locations. It's the fact they're so easy to get to. I'm sure by the end of the development military bases will be incredibly difficult to loot due to the fact the zombies will be crawling all over them, as well as players sneaking through to loot. I mean would YOU run in guns blazing and try to take out all the zombies knowing there might be somewhere there watching and waiting for you to be preoccupied with killing hordes of zeds, while they move in for the kill and take your gear after doing their job for them? Bottom line, it's not the number of military spawns. Military gear is just readily available because they're easy to get to atm. Not to mention how much harder it will be to move through large towns, so the Elektro, Cherno, Balota, Zeleno, GM, etc. route will probably take 5x as long. Besides, military gear is always going to be the norm for the most part. It's the best gear in the game, so the majority of players are going to go for it. -

Most people also don't know how to: Build a fire Make an improvised bow Skin and gut a deer/animal Fish effectively Load a magazine and properly clean a firearm Craft improvised survival items So should we not include those in the game as well? It's not about what's "feasible" to our character, it's about creating an authentic experience and good combat dynamics, and I think an overhauled melee system would do wonders for this game -

The number of milspawn locations isn't really the issue I think. I think it's just because the zeds are a non-factor at the moment. -

Personally, I don't understand the argument of not wanting military vehicles in the game. You can't argue for "REALISM" and then turn around and say "well...but not military vehicles, because I don't want them and they would unbalance gameplay blah blah" I mean I personally find it hilarious that this game has ZERO vehicles near driveable condition. (yes I am aware vehicles aren't really very far in development) It's like "OH LOOK! The apocalypse. All cars are now rusty, missing tires, and look like they have been fire bombed" Screw it. I'm all for adding some light armored vehicles into the game and making their parts incredibly difficult to come by. I really don't get what the push-back against military vehicles is all about. -

OP is not trying to make it DayZ Knights. Try being a BIT more engaged in the discussion, and you'll see that OP is not trying to do that at all In a "zombie" survival game like DayZ, solid melee mechanics are imperative, especially with the soon-to-be rarity of guns/ammo and the dangers of using them in future builds. I mean come on, watch EVERY ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER. more than half of the action is melee combat. What I think OP is trying to say is that we need a solid melee system that reflects more of an experience than simply circle strafing a zombie. The ability to swing a weapon, maybe jab with it, block with it, etc are all excellent ideas. And heck, if the melee system in the game were MORE like the medieval games out there, I think it would be a step in the right direction, anyway, considering how terrible it is at the moment. -
Well I mean it makes sense...have you ever seen a rabbit swim? I haven't... hold on, googling that now. EDIT: RABBITS CAN SWIM!!! GAME IS BROKEN!!! :P

I'll have to disagree...there are times where I'm sprinting up like a 15 degree incline and suddenly my character is forced to stop and jog, and on the rare occasion walk, which is incredibly silly to me. Now I don't think you should be able to sprint up the side of a sheer-drop off, but atm I still the think the angles at which your characters slow down is a bit off. Heck, if someone would do the actual analysis and show the numbers, I may be mathematically wrong, but to me as it is now it seems ridiculous.
-
No...the steepest incline you are able to sprint up really isn't that steep... If you remember, the incredibly steep angles force your character to walk, or jog, so you aren't "sprinting" up any steep angles.

Mhmmm About 30 fires should do it guys. -
Well in a game where you starve in less than a day of in-game time that is a horrible idea. And seriously? Why would I want to play this game if it takes me literal hours to stalk one animal for food. If I wanted to play a hunting simulator I would play The Hunter, which I have, and even THAT game isn't completely "realistic". You know why? Because no majority of players is going to have the patience to sit at a computer, stalking something they MAY NOT EVEN KILL for 4 to 5 hours. Come on...seriously. You're letting your passion for hunting and survival cloud your judgement of what is practical in this game. Honestly, if we want to reduce the amount of processed food in the map at any available time, I say bring back high-pop servers. That was the most fun I ever had in DayZ. Every town I went to I was lucky to find a can of beans, or sardines. Any loot I found I had to make due with. Killing people actually became a survival NECESSITY as you needed their supplies in order to live on, most scenarios. High-pops are the way to go IMO, but I think this is kind of a non issue anyway, as I'm sure the devs will balance the loot tables to something that will be challenging, yet reasonable in the end.

Yup. Need to nestle yourself between 2 to 3 fires to get rid of it. I can confirm this is accurate information. -
Agreed. I don't really get why "sniper" is like a bad word around here...although I guess it fits the bill as everyone hates snipers IRL, unless it's your buddy watching over YOU and not aiming at you.

WHOOPS! Good catch. Totally wasn't paying attention ha

ALL HAIL Whyherro123, survival master!!!!!!

You can usually find them this patch in the storage units on a fresh restart. That's usually where I find them

Clearly you don't understand the difference between realism and authenticity. Okay, nevermind...the rest of what I'm going to say is going to be considered off topic, so I'm just going to sit here and chuckle to myself and let this one go
-
Then go play project zomboid? Thank you. I completely agree with this. My whole point (I threw some obviously sarcastic examples in my list, no doubt you noticed) is that when you start demanding EVERYTHING in the game be "realistic", it no longer becomes fun or even a game really...it's just some simulator. DayZ doesn't have to be realistic to be authentic. I mean heck, I get more immersed in the Fallout games and they have all kinds of stuff some people here on the forums would argue "breaks their immersion". The universe and environment a game creates is what helps draw you in. NOT how realistic it is. DayZ is a game, but by its own design and game type, it does definitely need elements of realism in order to stay true to what kind of game it is. But when people say absolutely idiotic things like "Omg in DayZ beards are dumb because IRL someone could grab your beard in CQC and you'd be like TOTALLY screwed" (someone ACTUALLY said this.) THAT'S the kind of "realism" shit I'm trying to fight against. I guess I just have a problem with people who are against developments that would be great additions to gameplay, but because it isn't "realistic" enough, or because "realism" dictates how something should be, it shouldn't be added. Realism is fine. But let's focus on authenticity, and not take the realism overboard.
