    NWAF Tents

As this is an alpha, what he did there is investigation. Not exploiting. He is confirming the instance of non-spawing items at this particular location. After all, this topic is about item spawning, not server hopping to gain a benefit against other players. It is a known issue, but everyone reported issues they found in this manner, it would only be better for the devs.
  2. The reason that it is alpha is exactly why the original poster made this thread. We are the testing crew, hence he is doing everyone a favour by pointing out possible issues that may arise if it is ignored in the process of development and the addition of further equipment. This is why saying 'it is alpha' is silly. Testing, observing and forming opinions and thoughts is what we do as early access players. Our suggestions may not always be the ideal, but at least we try and raise our voices.

best strategy for hand vs M4

They sure can punch people, though.

    Berry Picking?

What, you have a desire for jam and jelly? I guess you want to beak bread first, in that case. Apocalyptic scones, anyone?

    Weapon extinction

the current gun rarity across all weapons across the board? I would like that. Especially if ammo becomes more precious. Is till find enough ammo that it could be used as candy, even if weapons are really rare outside military barracks/military offices. Edit: Granted, we shall see what happens once loot respawns are functional and the deer stands start having loot. (Would make sense to find shotgun and hunting rifle ammo there, as well as hunting equipment. Rarely a worn or damaged weapon. I would love to find a damaged rifle at a hunting stand, (which explains why it was abandoned.) then restore it with weapon kits.

    Server Hoppers

This is why I am looking forward to loot respawns, so that servers do not become devoid of loot after two hours of players scrounging every nook and cranny. Sadly, server hoppers will still exist even then as long as there is nothing stopping them from using the tactic.
  7. Currently, Hardcore servers and Regular servers have separate character slots. (works that way for me, at least.) Have fun and thank the hives.

    Lets Talk About Item Repairing

Technically speaking, covering your anti-stab west with an entire roll of duct tape would create a monster of a vest. At least against enemies like zombies and players with basic slashing implements. Duct Tape is scary...

    less militarised more improvised

I personally belive that the optimal point comes when there are lots of weapon types in the game, from the rare military rifle that is not in pristine condition without a coveted cleaning kit, to the hunting rifle with a decent scope, to bows and improvised spears. (Kitchen knife, rope and a stick anyone? Range = safer zombie killing) Then, you make the weapons you simply pick up decently rare. So a weapon is an amazing find, while ammo might be just as difficult. Currently, ammo is being treated like candy.

    Weapon cleaning damages the weapon.

Honestly, the only thing more annoying than several topics covering the same subject over the course of a week, is people saturating these threads with 'search function' complaints. Thanks for warning everyone about the cleaning kits, mate.

    Changes to guns

I enjoy the mosin the most, simply because it is currrently the only weapon that feels like a rifle. Though, I have yet to have a chance to try the double-barrel with slugs. One of my favourite types of ammo. I am pretty much fine with any changes the developers want to make to the M4, not my weapon of choice but it is better than nothing. What I would really like to see, however. Is the sawn-off shotgun taking the sidearm-slot.
  13. I prefer first person, so I am quite happy with hardcore servers. What I REALLY like about it is the fact it effectively gives us two character slots. Now I can play even when my friends are not on and not lose any of our progress. I now use hardcore for lone-wolf style game play and the regular servers with friends. Cheers.
  14. In regards to the people talking about character resets. I am not finding that my characters are resetting, but I am instead finding that I have one character for regular servers and another for all hardcore server. Did some hopping only for the sake of determining if this behaviour is constant. So far it seems to be. One specific character for every hardcore server I join. Another character for every regular. Gear and position of course being constant. Good stuff. I really like this.

    Night Time is Unplayable

The pitch black nature of the Chernaurus night is perfectly realistic for the first five minutes in darkness when walking out of the light. The problem is that it does not account for eye-adaption. With no light pollution and no clouds. (Clouds that we disable for improved performance anyway.) The milky way is a bloody light-show. After thirty minutes you can see the ground just fine in grey, hazy highlights. As long as you are not inside somewhere or in a forest where the trees obscure the stars. If you looked up after 30 minutes with that level of light-pollution, you would see a beautiful array of colours and stars you have never been able to see before. Which is why the night should not be nearly as dark, with the exception of overcast conditions.

    Pictures of a new zombie!

Because of diversity. It is a minor change, but a change and difference makes the world seem larger.

Should zombies be a better source for loot?

Precisely, it would not be strange at all to find a pair of pristine or only very slightly worn handcuffs on the belt of a police zombie. They are durable and the worst you could expect is a bit of corrosion, or scratches from being dragged through the dirt assuming the zombie fell over.
  18. The fact people seem to be missing here is light pollution, by that I mean BOTH sides of light pollution. See, if you live in an area with decent pollution, in winter with with a clear sky at the darkest time of the year, it will be DARK. This is because the nearby cities are polluting the atmosphere above you. The light disperses through it and creates enough counter-light to block most of the starry sky. This in fact makes an area outside a city even darker than normal. As you do not get the full benefit of the night sky. In a place far north with no pollution, or a general area in a late summer season or autumn like Chernarus seems to be in currently, the only sources of pollution would be the sun itself. The season does not seem to imply winter, so if the map is far on the northern hemisphere the nights would be very bright, due to the sun being just by the horizon. The only way I would justify the current nights without extensive research on the relative location. I would guess early autumn on a longitude similar to northern germany. This would allow for a dark night, counting near-zero pollution for the amount of time the game seems to present. Even then, zero pollution allows the stars to have their full effect, making the milky way light your path. Walking into a forest where the tree's block it would be pitch black in the thickest locations. On a field you would see the dark silhouette of someone/thing walking cast against the grass highlighted by the starlight. Or you would easily be able to tell the dirt road from the road-side. (With adapted eyes. Shine a flashlight in your face and you are effectively blind for 10 minutes.)

Should zombies be a better source for loot?

Logically, their clothes would already be in a worn or damaged state, due to previous struggles and how recklessly Zombies move. While say a fireman with a fire extinguisher strapped to his back could reasonably have a decent condition extinguisher, even if depleted.*bonk* With the current 10 minute despawn on bodies in experimental, I could imagine it happening. It would all depend on what they are carrying. If, for instance their clothes could not be turned into useable rags without cleansing alcohol, due to contamination risk. As an example. (read badly damaged).
  20. It would be interesting if the whole gamma thing was a non-issue, though. It could place a nice balance between a flashlight, torch or gas-lamp versus choosing to rely on aye-adaption. Adapted eyes in darkness would be able to see a lone figure standing in field in the shape of a dark sillouette, but not if back-dropped by a bush, or the tree-line. The only thing that would reveal it is how the grey grass behind the shape is covered by it. A player standing with their back to a tree would be pretty much invisible without a light-source to illuminate them. In essence: Non-adapted eyes: you can see the sillouette of your hand only if you hold it up to the sky. Adapted eyes: You can see your own palm if you look down into it, but only in a grey wash where the sparse starlight shines down. If you stood under a tree covering the star-light. You would only see the black sillouette of a palm. Night-vision goggles are going to be powerful as hell, aren't they? I cannot say I am looking forward to them.
  21. This is the only thing I am talking about. The current starlit night darkness level is ENTIERLY accurate if your eyes have -not- adapted. =)
  22. If you take that image as how a starlight-only night looks to the average player with 50% gamma and brightness, (It certainly looks like this for me.) then it is clearly MUCH darker than reality. That sky is so clear that you should be able to see most of the milky way with the naked eye once your eyes adjust. I live in the northern parts of scandinavia, no large town for several miles. A perfect spot for stargazing. In that brightness, you should be able to see the individual planks and the gaps between them on that house after 30 minutes. You would be able to see the bark of the tree, but not the texture as starlight does not cast shadows as you might usually consider. Starlight gives you the ability to identify shapes, grass and movement. It is a light that completely lacks fidelity, however. What should be looked at the most is in fact the sky. In a place like chernarus where there is almost no light pollution due to the whole situation, that sky should be lit up brigther than a planetarium. The milky way is a light-show under those conditions.

What do you consider to be proper banditing?

    I prefer the gentleman/lady thief.
  24. Speaking as someone living in the middle of nowhere. In basic starlight it would indeed be this dark the moment you walk out from light. After 30 minutes, however, you can walk through a field and see everything. Through a pine forest you would be able to walk without walking into trees, noticing roots in the undergrowth is possible but becomes very difficult with the forest filtering most of the starlight. Most of all, in starlight on a clear night (pretty much all nights in DayZ, especially for those of us that turn clouds off for minor performance boost.) you are able to detect MOVEMENT, but often not discern what is moving. Cats, rabbits, or any other animal can freak you out. Just imagine what a zombie moving a few meters away from you can do.
  25. What would be interesting is if staying in the dark for ten minutes made it easier to see outlines, as night-vision in the real world does. Granted, night vision in reality takes about 30 minutes to reach full effect, at which point starlight makes navigation simple. Of course, activating a flashlight or having one shone in your eyes would ruin this effect.
