Why are you against many military items in game?

Wouldn't the inability to make that inference and adjust tactics imply incompetence/stupidity getting us back to my point? -

Some day when I get off my rear and build the door that is gonna be my 8x9 walk in gun, safe cinder-block walls filled with rebar and concrete steel reinforced concrete floor and roof it even has outlets. I had my PC in there when I was re-modeling my office. I kinda miss playing in there. -

^thinks I am exaggerating :( And that is just a small selection from my collection bit dated photo to. Welcome to the south, here our guns have guns and our crime rates are miraculously low :D -
Would ingame currency have a place in DayZ?

Nah keep it safe and dry in your pack, and use it to start the campfire. -

Where the heck is the long range scope?
Franchi (DayZ) replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
LOL true, my favorite hardcore server is night time most of the time. -

Franchi (DayZ) replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
That actually represents a few weeks worth of surviving and hitting the NWAF after the noon reset (no one on then) every other day or so on my hardcore character. Server hoping you could probably do that in a few hours. Here is how I see it: Never leave a LRS behind, it will only fall into the hands of a recently deceased server hopping KOS sniper who upon finding it will immediately head back to the coast to kill freshspawns to work of his/her rage at being killed by a freshspawn so he/she can get back to the business of killing freshspawns while clear headed. -

Where are all the LRSs? Well they used to be here, in my backpack, But now they are rotting under some random bush in the far north. Sorry snipers you no can have. Actually I'm not sorry HA HAHAHAHAH!!! -

Why are you against many military items in game?
Franchi (DayZ) replied to CrazyCorky's topic in General Discussion
I am fine with balancing weapons/ammo/clothing/food/supplies availability for game play reasons, but when people start trying to use realism as a reason for it I want to reach through the internet and slap them. With 90-99% of the population dead or infected competition for the resources that are left would be nearly non existent, and guns don't wear out very fast or break easily. Ammunition shortages maybe, but I do believe there are enough bullets in the world to kill every living person several times over. -

The problem with that is that the in between will be more than handled by reloading, would you prefer a 45-70/50-90/45LC or a muzzle loader? Given the low chamber pressure of a 45-70/50-90/45LC and the straight walled design that brass can be reloaded many many times, all you need is the dies and a press that weights less than 20 pounds and a bullet cast. You already discussed the fact that you need primers for black powder guns the only difference with the 45-70 or 50-90 or 45LC is that you will have to make a small brass or copper cup and cast your pressure sensitive explosive in them, then press that into the primer hole in the case, all of these cartridges were originally designed for black powder, if for whatever reason you cannot make smokeless powder you can simply substitute BP. You could go with a wheel lock of flint lock or matchlock design on a muzzle loader and eliminate the need for primers. That is the only way you would gain a significant edge in ease of ammunition acquisition however all of those designs were phased out in favor of cap locks becasue they all suffer from the same flaws, unreliable ignition and delayed ignition, both factors that severely hamper the accuracy and usefulness of the guns. Just about any pistol cartridge suitable for the SMG in that picture has similar brass that lasts a similar number of re loadings tho black powder in a automatic weapon has some serious cleaning issues. When I mentioned small munitions manufacturing I meant someone doing it in a house or barn, it would be slow and a bit dangerous but perfectly possible it could be powered without the grid, supplies would of course have to be scavenged but with the grid down there will be a hell of a lot of copper around not being used, mix with 30% zinc and presto you have brass suitable for cartridges/primers. a bit of hammer forging and annealing and you have flat brass stock suitable for forming into primers or cases depending on what presses you have made or have on hand. Sincerely, Franchi, friendly neighborhood gunsmith P.S. Think outside the box -

Hollywood has this perception of the US military as stupid uneducated bloodthirsty rednecks and the poor who join the military becasue they don't have any other options. This leads them to portray the military as for the most part incompetent. -

If you drew the same circle around my house you would find at least 15 AR's and more than 20 bolt action rifles, 5 or more SKS's, a couple of semi auto AK's along with many shotguns, handguns, lever action rifles and assorted semi auto hunting rifles. That's not even considering the gun stores and pawn shops+wally world in town (just outside that circle) they all sell guns and ammo or the feed stores that sell ammunition, wally world has at least 4 AR's in stock all the time. If you were willing to take an excursion 50 miles north you would find a military munitions depot, probably dangerous as all hell but almost guaranteed to find something left there in the first weeks after the outbreak. As far as military camo gear, Ive got a full set of military surplus camo and a combat harness from when I used to paintball, Ive also got a lot of camo and some gillie suits from when I used to hunt along with assorted camouflage backpacks and equipment belts. My brother hard core bow hunter that he is makes his own camo from cargo pants and shirts + spray paint to match the different hides/stands he uses. Team America FUCK YEAH! -

I seriously doubt that tech would be rolled back much, by the time we run out of the ammunition we have we would have the lathes (and inevitable mills, broachers and tracers you find near that many large lathes) in Berizino, Vybor and Grishino up and running, either via electricity or via belts connected to wind turbines, water wheels, steam engines or to the rear wheel of a truck or the PTO drive of a tractor or via generators or generators powered in such a fashion. Manufacturing modern cases would be the hardest part post apocalypse, there are not many places they are made currently (closest place to me is about 300 miles) and the process is far from simple, the primers and the powder however is simple if a bit difficult dangerous and time consuming (before you ask yes you can make a explosive sutible for primers at home). However straight walled rimed cases can be made with relative ease, things like the 45-70 and 45LC. With the aforementioned lathes and assorted machining equipment a skilled and knowledgeable individual could build a small munitions plant capable of stamping new cases, the problems would be getting brass of sufficient quality and heating the brass for the annealing process so its more likley they would stamp one shell at a time and anneal in batches in some sort of wood burning forge. While not insurmountable problems they would probably be enough to keep people reloading rather than manufacturing new cases, a shouldered rifle case can typically be reloaded at least 4 times, hearing of 10-12 is not uncommon. straight walled cases (45 ACP, 9mm 40SW, 45LC etc) can be reloaded for a LONG time, at least 10-12, commonly many more times. Some other food for thought, given the Dayz plagues kill/infection rate we would be DROWNING in guns and ammo, even if they get the player count up to 100 per map, that will still be better than a 85% kill rate, meaning there's far fewer people competing over the guns/ammo and other resources. Why exactly do you think that tech would revert back to the 1800s? Because some Hollywood morons thought that would happen in the case of the abominably bad show Revolution? I can and have made effective bows, I can make guns, making effective guns is actually easier. The materials are easier to find, and the skill set for making a simple improvised gun is more common than that required to make a bow capable of killing a human size animal. More food for thought, and improvised SMG made with a little know-how and hand tools from things you would find in your average hardware store. The welding could easily be done with one of the little blue propane bottles and a torch attachment, or with a couple of car batteries and some jumper cables, or a similar design that requires no welding can be substituted. Just becasue you cannot do these things doesn't mean those of us who can will oblige your 18th century fantasy by keeling over dead.. -
How do you hold so many weapons Mr. Dead Guy?

Place primary on back, look at weapon on ground, press F or select "take into hand" in the inventory screen. -
PROOF from Ukrainian uprising the PRESS VEST WORKS!
Franchi (DayZ) replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
Not a 45, far to thin and long, same for most other handgun rounds. Best guess is a JSP 30 cal, but I wouldn't expect that vest to stop it, real head scratcher. Maybe a 7.62x39 at extreme range? Hard to tell with nothing on the floor to indicate size, but it looks like a rifle bullet to me based on what I can tell of its width compared to its length. -
Game lacks support for AMD Cpu's & Amd Crossfire systems
Franchi (DayZ) replied to Warheart's topic in General Discussion
Based on my exp it doesn't care if its an AMD or intel CPU either, my 4.2 ghz AMD quad core is doing better than my buddies i7, not much better but still better. -
Try construction sites. There was a tactical vest (not assault vest), but I believe it was removed until it could be fixed, had some clipping issues.

I agree, generally the ones looking to have fun at your expense betray themselves in their voice, not always but most of the time. A great way to gauge people is to stalk them for a long time before making contact. Where are they headed? How do they go about moving around? The buildings they search can tell you a lot about them, the buildings they pass over just as much. Even if there was a way to make a 100% non exploitable humanity system I wouldn't want it, it would remove so much from Dayz.
-
Any such system will be exploitable, gamers game the system in every game. When bandits exploit said system people will whine on the forums. The solution? Forget about a humanity system/friendly markers, play the game.

Yeah, you could well end up as unfortunate collateral damage in the ongoing war against server hoppers. Unless you have an emergency and have to leave immediately NEVER log out AT an airfield, logging back in safely even without the death squads and lone survivors hunting server hoppers is incredibly risky. Heck the way I look at it just being at an airfield is tantamount to signing your own death warrant they are essentially free fire zones.

Tents yes, not the bunkers we are discussing.

I have participated in this activity, not as a shooter tho, set up with 1-3 friends, find a LRS set it on the walk way of the ATC, set all doors in their spawn position. 1-3 snipers, one guy in close (me), I watch the player list, if anyone joins the server and gets to the bait to fast we consider server hopper and treat accordingly if someone has been on the server for long enough and gets there he will never even know we where there. Its beautiful the way they all stop to see if its pristine, allowing the snipers a perfect shot.

In the tent camps north of the NWAF and at Balota, bunkers with a top floor draped in camo net, they still spawn loot. As many as 3 military loot items per spawn including LRS's M4's and all M4 components. The only weapons attachments I have never found in them are the sights and suppressor for the FNX tho I believe they can spawn there as well. Spawns may also be occupied by high end clothing, food/drink, ammo or ammo boxes

The only issues I ever had with combat loggers was one incident where me and a buddy got ghosted by a guy who logged of on the floor under us and logged back on behind us, it was our first or second night playing dayz and we had no clue how he managed to get behind us while we had both ways up covered and another where a player shouted friendly, then shot me in the chest with a FNX, destroying my FNX then logged when I ducked in a building to get my shotgun out. The timer fixes those issues, but seriously anyone who gets this upset about people combat logging on them and now this excited about being able to kill them during log out should take a long hard look at WHY it upsets/excites them so much.
