Civilization no matter how broken will never go back to muskets, using swords sure, but not muskets, the jump from flint locks to cap and ball to modern cartridges was about inovation and invention, If you have the ability to manufacture a flintlock you have the ability to manufacture a cartridge firing weapon and amunition, the casings might be more primitave in shape and it might use black powder (think 45-70) but it would be cartridge based

Just north of BZ near the tracks in the lumber mill there are 7 lathes, given that you do not have that many lathes of that size without a mill and more than likley a tracing machine and a broaching machine + assorted tools/machines in one of the nearby and as of yet sealed buildings there is no reason that mecanical technology would roll back at all. Some one would start a compound around that sight, as it already has some good walls, and easy acces to the ocean for food, bring in generators or simply power the machines from a tractor PTO or from a striped rim on the drive wheel of a car held up on jacks, and presto high end manufacturing capabilities restored as for materials to use, given the number of dead versus number of survivors scavenging disabled vehicles and such would produce more than enought to supply the compound wiht all it would need for a long time. Now eventually fuel would probably run out, but by that point finding caned food would never accur, so the game setting isn't there yet.

Are you sure a compensator redces accuracy on the mosin? I ask becasue in reality a properly installed compensator will almost never reduce accuracy, the only exception being rare cases were it has a negative impact on barrel harmonics and with the mosin's full length stock that shoudln't be a factor at all.

I would like horses as well, Need to find a saddle and bridle have to feed them, water them, protect them from zombies. get two horses and two sets of harness and you could potentialy convert one of the blue trailers into a wagon. Burlap sacks full of oats and corn could be used to feed the horses as well as the players. There are plenty of round bales of hay in the fields those would be low quality food for a horse that takes a lot of time to be eaten, all the while your horse is out there exposed for anyone to find, kill you and steal. Shooting a gun from a horse or getting your horse to near a zombie should have a chance to get thrown off, potentialy resulting in damage or death same for running over a rabbit (tho much lower chance). Running your horse until it runs out of energy kills it etc. Could be a fun and complex system. Just one small point my horse can carry more loot than any mule in the world. I hate games that make mules better for loot than horses. On vehicles I've thought about it and finding fuel should be nearly impossible, even at gas stations your typical gas station gets fuel at least once a week, many get it every few days chances are at the end the diliveries were not being made and by the time the world looked like it does now, people fleeing have used pumps to pump the tanks dry, so the only way to get fuel should be at remote towns and on ocasion a jerry can in a barn or construction site etc, also you have to ask yourself whats more valuable the ability to use a car or the potential ability to use a generator.

Guys the only millitary weapon in the game ATM is the M4, unless I missed something.

Eat and drink everything you find, fill up at pumps and ponds, keep your charecter stuffed, and you will get healing then healthy, if you only eat when the game nags you you never will

I have found every weapon but a shotgun (haven't been there much since patch) in that corner multiple times, also mags up to 30 there and around the building, once a 45 mag, every kind of amunition, an amunition box (roof) as well as canteens every weapon atachment up to PU scope, fire axes, hunting backpacks and every kind of food also bottom floor in the center can spawn can openers. The long buildings out behind it that look like a fair ground, found a mosin in the two smaller ones twice also fire axes, and the other one is great for clothing as a fresh spawn If you get lucky its one stop shoping for a new charecter But Ive also been ghosted by a server hopper there with a buddy of mine, so I don't go back once I have basic gear. Also because its so close to several spawn points chances are it will have been looted before you get there, you can still normaly get a backpack.

On my first trip to the NE air field with my budy we got jumped by a server hoper. My bddy had a mosin with no scope and I had a pristine 45 that I had miraculously found a magazine for +shotgun. The server hoppers first shot from a 45 ruined my 45, click click! I ducked into a building to bring out my shotgun, must have scared the hell out of him cause he logged out LOL

+1 for the boat, found it directly below and on the level emidiatley under the bridge, in those 3 conectd rooms.

The cases where 7.62x51 and 308 are not interchangeble are few and far betwenn. Notice that the previous cardboard box used for 762x54 has been removed from the game, also notice that when you empty the box of 7.62x51 it turns into 7.62 ammo. They likley patched in the new box and left it with the old ammuniton becasue there isn't a 308 weapon in the game yet, but i still belive one is coming, likely the M40 (US sniper rifle) Now as to firing a 308 in the mosin, NO NO NO. It might go off, but the case would rupture venting gasses into the action potentialy injuring or killing the player, and given the loss of the brass sealing the explosion in you could easily end up with a bullet stuck in the barrel, a followup round would then blow out your barrel and almost certainly injure you. Now that might not happen, you might get lucky and have the round go off in a normal fashion and not vent enough gas through the ruined brass to leave the bullet in the barrel, in that case you would have to MANUALY remove the 308 case from the rifle with a cleaning rod shoved down the barrel as the extractor would not be able to grab the rim. For all the COD kiddies and oppressed Europeans who don't get to handle firearms and ammuniton every day here is a little refrence picture I took last night, Should give you some idea of what this amuniton actualy is IRL at a glance. The lists of weapons that fire the rounds is in no way comprehensive, its just to give you some idea. Sorry for the blur

yeap, thats 308, didn't load the picture before, but why its labeled in cyrillic is beyond me Correct to a point, normal ammunition will still produce a cracking sound like a whip, but nothing like the full throated boom of an un-silenced weapon. A properly built silencer traps most of the explosive gasses from the shell, that is what makes the boom sound, but the crack is made like you say bullets breaking the sound beerier.

.308 in regards to firearms most likley refers to the 308 winchester while it is the standard conversion of 7.62 it is an entirley diffrent cartrige. The mosin fires the 7.62x54r the SKS fires the 7.62x39 they al use bullets of the same size with diffrent brass. 308 win (7.62x51) rifles we might see FN SCAR AR-10 M60 M240 M39 EMR M40 If we are getting .308 amunition my bet is on the M40, tho this is a video game and video games and gamers have a habit of getting everything related to firearms completley wrong.

empty your hands, put your cursor over the rifle on the ground in you tabed screen, bring up the options menu, select take into hands, presto you are carying two rifles.

I loot and dash, avoiding contact with other survivors as much as possiblle. I enjoy the company of zombies and use zombies as player detectors when I stop to eat all the beans I loot. Get a zombie chasing you about 30m behind you, run into a building with stairs go up stairs, eat in peace secure in the knowledge that any other player that gets close will agro and kill the zombie, making noise and giving you time to put your food down and equip a weapon.

Finding a reparable heliicopter after the zombie apocalpse? ha ha ha, Okay maybe if you get lucky. In the end helicopters and crews would be pushed far past regulation sleep and matnance cycles in search and rescue and evac operations resulting in high casualties in crew and aircraft. Keeping it in the air? Not gonna happen. Parts are not going to be interchangeable between aircraft, and getting the fuel to fly one would be nearly impossible. You don't just need a pilot, you need a ground crew of skilled technicians just to get it off the ground. Maybe in a huge setlment you would be able to do it, but the cost/reward ratio would be so far out of whack you would never actualy do it. Just for a little perspective the Huey costs around $500 PER HOUR to fly. A UH-60 costs around $2,000 per hour. Thats with parts and fuel you can order from factories and refineries and have deliverd to your hangar. Imagine the cost in blood in a zombie and looter riddled world. Beyond all of that insanity, all of the counters to helicopters are cheaper and more plentiful than the heilicopters themselves. Your guild just spend 3 weeks repairing one, and you have a pilot to fly it!! To bad some noob who found an RPG got lucky and shot of your tail rotor (remember Mogadishu?), Better luck next spawn, not to mention all of the actual ground to air missiles out there and the AA guns. As far as automatic versus manual cars and trucks, alot of the issues you guys have with hill starts are related to two factors, underpowered engines and no true low gear, take a full size truck with a diesiel or V8 engine and manual hillstarts are a breeze, heck your average diesel truck (f350, 3500) can start in 3rd on level ground without much fuss. Now for tanks, finding them would not be a huge issue, geting them moving would not be that big of a challenge either, the ammunition and fuel would be the killers, the M1a1 uses something like 10 gallons of fuel just to start, and burns over a gallon and a half per mile traveled it can however burn nearly any fuel, the T-90 fairs slightly better, geting just over 1 mile per gallon and also being multi fuel compatible. Lets think about this tho, one trip in a tank is going to cost in fuel as much as 15-40 of the same trips in a car or truck. Might seem cool to take one tank, but I am betting the crew driving 15-40 cars is faster and probably wins if they get in a fight, lets face it if you find a tank then there are going to be plenty of shoulder fired anti tank weapons.

Yes you can. The only disadvantage is you have to put down the one you are using to change weapons, or eat, or drink, or bandage.

The mosin is typically reloaded from stipper clips, and can be reloaded just as fast as a m4. Given the loacation of the game, all the ammuntion for it would come on those, especially when you consider that just about every weapon that uses those rounds also accepts clips. Just about every purpose built millitary bolt action is this way, Mausers, 1903 Springfileds, Enfields, M1917, even the SKS and SVT are loaded from stripper clips despite the detachable magazines on the Enfields and SVT's. Thats why they all have a open c shaped cutout on the rear ring of the reciver or the top of the bolt. Diffrent gun but same basic idea

I was looting the boat north of BZ just finished up and bagged myself a fully kitted mosin with pristine scope as well as a back up pistol and best of all the holly grail, A CAN OPENER, finally I had everything I needed. I Encountered a new spawn with a fire axe as I was leaving. told him I was friendly and that the boat was pretty much empty, then told him I would leave him a pistol. So I droped the spare pistol in a holster and some ammunition and ran off, he came after me with his axe and managed to ruin my backpack full of rice, I killed him with my fire axe becasue like an idiot I hadn't bound the mosin yet. I bound the mosin, picked up the spare pistol, ate the two cans of spagheti he had and ran like hell. That was my first PK in Dayz, (I had seen other people but managed to keep from being seen) and now I completely understand why people KOS, being a nice guy almost got me killed when I had FINNALY reached the point I didn't have to frantically raid every house! I now have faith, faith that the best way to stay alive is to avoid contact with other survivors.
