It would be nice if we could break the M4 down into upper and lower and store it in our bags that way, give each of them a separate durability and allow them to spawn separate or together with different durability.
-
And when penalties for server hoppers and combat loggers are in will you still be against this idea? This is an alpha, I am suggesting a balanced way to allow a person to carry an M4 as a spare or with a mosin without incurring the movement penalty or having to deal with re looting the spare every time they drink a soda or get a compass reading.
-
I have found them in hangars snd in the ATC tower, no where else,, that doesn't mean they don't spawn in other military buildings tho, i don't go to the airstrip very often, i have however found 4 since patch, 1 in the ATC at NWAF and another in the ATC tower at NEAF, the other two were in hangars, one found in each location was badly damaged.
-
Here was my reaction to my last death, I fell through some stairs while looting a building on my way back south from the NE airstrip where i found a pristine long range scope First thought when I saw myself falling with full pristine military gear an acoged M4 and that long range scope? "Well at-least its not my hardcore toon with a can opener and an FNX mag" Followed by "oh dam lost Treasure Island" I have figured out how to avoid getting killed by other players pretty well, but buildings, they get me every time! Funny thing is I took the better part of my night time play to run to the NWAF, striped it clean in the dark and ran like hell! Aside from no acog (no red dot either) and still not having a pristine fire axe I'm back to the same gear, even got a sight for my fnx and bayonet for my m4

Will we see optimizations for AMD users at some point along the way?

I am running a rig that should do worse than yours but is doing great, AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz, MSI 990FXA-GD80V2 AM3+, radeon 6850, CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM, OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G. Do you have significantly less ram than me? -
Unfortunately about an hour after getting a pristine long range scope on my regular character long after getting out of the hot zone around air strips I fell through some stairs and died, so I no longer have Treasure Island, First thought when i saw myself falling with full pristine military gear an acoged M4 and that long range scope? "Well at-least its not my hardcore toon with a can opener and an FNX mag" Followed by "oh dam lost Treasure Island" I have figured out how to avoid getting killed by other players pretty well, but buildings, they get me every time!. Of note, in the building at the airstrip with the cell I found a bible in the other ground level room. Going be a heck of a lot more careful on my hardcore character now lol Best locations I have found for books are the two story cafes and the police stations, in the upstairs office they often have two books.

I have a badly damaged copy of treasure island on a regular server, I checked it out and its readable, doesn't seem to be missing any pages willing to trade It but im not verry interested in other books. The Aeneid Buddenbrooks A Traveler in Time The Prisoner of Zenda Black Jack Desert Gold The Magna Carta Variable Man The Downfall Non english 20,000 Leugues Under the Sea (in I belive French) Faust: the first part of the tragedy (in German)

Any way to fix the desync? Any news on fixing desync?
Franchi (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Drop the hard case in your inventory and go to another server, solved it for me after 2 days of checking every server i sould find to see if i could finaly play the game! -
Where to find radios (walkies)?
Franchi (DayZ) replied to WrecklessMEDIC's topic in General Discussion
found a damaged one in a hangar on a hardcore server put a battery in it and it seems to work, but I have no use for it, maybe I will find someone who wants it. -
less militarised more improvised

Primitive weapons are in use now days to alow hunters to hunt during special seasons, in most cases an inline fireing system using a modern primer (most commonly a shotgun primer) is used to insure fast ignition thus corecting the main problem with matchlock, wheellock and flintlock firearms, the ignition source was droped, and then you had to wait for ignition. If you can "drop a mini ball down the barrel" then you have a nearly worthless weapon, it will be horrifically inaccurate and incredibly underpowered. Minie balls are slightly smaller than the barrel they fit in and still require raming. Making a contact explosive suitble for a primer IS NOT DIFFICULT, and just like blak powder they can be made form things found around, or outside a house. Making them safley is a bit more difficult, and is rather illigal in many cases, however in an end of the world situation who, pray tell, is going to arrest someone doing it? Now manufacturing the casing is as I stated a bit more complex, hence why the first post apocalypse weapons would likley be more in line with previous more primitive case designs like the 45-70 and 32 rimfire. Just so you understand where I am coming from on this I went to college to learn how to build guns, literaly attended a school where the entire curiculum was firearm maitnance, repair, modification and manufacture. -
To the ones saying guns and ammo are impossible to find.

Ive found more M4's than I care to count (almost entirley in non military areas tthe airstrips scare the hell out of me), enought that my friends all get them as gifts if they are close enough I can cary them in my hands the same goes for mosins, ive had as many asa 4 FNx pistols on my person at any one time. ive found many many amo boxes and protective cases, not once not ever have I found any of them with anything extra in or on them when i wasn't absolutley sure that someone else had dropped them. Gear does not spawn with atachments on it and containers excepting the first aid kit spawn empty, you found someone elses cast offs, probably somoene who was using that, found a LRS and droped it to use their spare mosin instead, or a server hoper who failed to re-equip the rifle before logging out, happens alot when you startle them, its kinda funny, see someone loading in on the player list while you are in a high value area on a low pop server? Spray a wall with your M4 and watch them log out in record time, can't risk that gear they worked so hard on in a fair fight now can they? -

And I repeat you are doing it wrong. Wiseass. Keep yourself stuffed, I haven't had a hungry charecter that wasn't a fresh spawn since the first time I got lost in the woods at night for 3 hours. -

Hungry food in bags BAD BAD BAD YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG! -
+100 for binoculars, could have three diffrent grades, the crappy folding ones as civilian spawn taking only one slot, some big ones that take four slots as civilian spawn and some millitary spawn ones that are just as good as the 4 slot civilian ones but only take 2 slots +1 to leatherman or other multi tool. +1 to machetes +1 to bear traps+ smaler traps Now for mine Snares for use on rabbits and squirells made from a roll of wire (roll would make lots of them), traping is truly the best way to hunt in a survival situation, requires no active imput Garrotes as an improvised item, wire and sticks for the best, rope and sticks for one that works, better the garrote the faster the subject passes out, and eventually dies if you keep chokeing them. various improvised firearms

Honestly cleaning a pristine weapon fresh from the factory or storage will improve it, Ever bought a mosin? They come CAKED with cosmolin, hell both mine could barley chamber a round when I got them, My AR wasn't as bad, but it still functioned better after cleaning.

Trust me when people can't get food at the super market its going to get ugly fast, honestly in a end of the world situation I would abandon my house and move into the huge woods behind it for atleast 2 weeks, and I am a long way from a major city with a large family all of whom know how to shoot. Being near a road or a house in such a situation is just to dangerous. -
New Patch - Crashing, Extreme Desync, Beret Errors
Franchi (DayZ) replied to Andarne (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
I also have massive desync I have tried dozens of servers, I can open my bags, and move around but I cannot interact with doors or loot, I can drag and drop items into my bag, and move items around in my bag but it does not update until I log out and log back in. Earlier today I was fine, but now on that same server it is unplayable, I checked many high pop servers and on none of them could I play, now I don't belive that 39 other people are putting up with it so is there anything on my end that would cause this? -

I am 2, 4, and 6 and I dable in 5 and 7 I am to valuable to kill. The ultimate survival strategy! I have all of the equipment and skills listed aside from night vision gogles, the food supply and armor. I have livestock of every type listed minus rabbits, tho I used to raise rabbits as well. I don't have EMT training per se but I can start and IV and give injections, clean and dress and even stich wounds and set broken bones (done it all on animals) farm living for the win. -
Not necesarily, once I get two 60/60 magazines I don't loot them anymore, I haven't even fired a full 30 round magazine so I doubt i would ever need more than that. @OP there is no respawing loot yet

Improvised Firearms, and some thoughts on night vision.
Franchi (DayZ) replied to yessaul robinovich's topic in General Discussion
As I said when crafting your best possible out come should be worn, that being unlikley, and ruined and badly damaged should be likley, they should be inacurate and they also need to wear out FAST and fail horificaly, potentialy damaging the player. the idea for me is they are weapons of desperation, not choice. This keeps the real guns valuable and desirable. It would however be kind of neat if you had a better chance to get a better one the more times you craft it, so say after your 3rd time making the same one you have a pretty good chance at worn this would also be realistic. -

For pistols and shotguns sure, not likley to make a huge diffrence on rifles tho, chamber pressure and headspace are likley to much to get right with hand tools. Also to your other post, use a hacksaw to cut the revolvers frame, then use a drill bit the same size as the 357 case to "ream" a chamber.or you could just use two pipe wreches and unthread it, I don't belive the colt python has a pin in its barrel but even that is as simple as a hammer and punch. -

Franchi (DayZ) replied to yessaul robinovich's topic in General Discussion
As I posted in another thread improvised firearms dont have to be pathetic, and are not infact difficult to make, in most cases they are made with basic hand tools, as we already have propane bottles a torch end for brasing on them ,a hand crank drill and hand files would mean we have everything we need aside from the materials already in game to make them. They are most comonly made from lengths of square and round tube and solid stock. Everything you need to make one can infact be bought at a well stocked hardware store. The one limiting factor in most casses is the inability to rifle the barrel. leaving you with a gun that is not much good past 10m. This would be an excelent way to balance them. They would be easily outclassed by any real firearm, but if you couldn't get your hands on a real gun do to server population or server hoppers etc you wouldn't be totaly out of luck. Also when crafting them they should be created starting at "worn and ending in ruined" with getting a worn one being incredibly rare. They should also deteriorate verry fast. They should also be limited to straight walled cases, so just pistol and shotgun rounds, because reaming a chamber for a shouldered cartridge is unlikley, and building a improvised gun that could handle modern rifle rounds with handtools is unlikley. here are some examples http://amodestpublication.wordpress.com/2009/05/08/loyalist-paramilitary-improvised-machine-guns/ I feel that such improvised weapons, be it these of the shotgun shell flare gun or just abotu anythign else would actualy cut down on the amount of PK's going on, most of the PK's currently fall into three catagories. 1: people runing into each other and shooting on instinct and people killing each other over loot, this is as far as I am concerned as it should be, you come around the corner and see another guy with a gun in an apocalypse you are probably going to shot and so is he. You need that can of beans/medkit to stay alive? Hell yes you would kill for it. 2: People PVPing for the sake of PVP, These accur mostly at the airfields and in major towns, no real way to end it, its a bit unnatural but whatever. 3: People cruising the beach to kill freshspawns and assorted bandits/KOS players. Now bandits are a natrual part of this world, but killing freshspawns is not, people kill freshspawns because its easy, but what if freshspawns and people in that area were often carrying improvised fire arms. Playing as a bandit would be a hell of a lot more dangerous and therefore less apealing to all but the most dedicated. Do you think the guys posting youtube videos of bambi slaying would hang around and risk haveing their pristine military loot ruined by some scared bambi with an improvised SMG? -

One of my few PK's as the agressor, guy in his underwear had nothing but a clown mask and a crowbar, normally I wouldn't have shot him but he wouldn't respond on voice coms or in text and was creeping the hell out of me -

Yes people may well destroy them while fighting over them, that is your only valid point here. As for wear and tear on a lathe, I have a lathe about the size the ones in game are in my shop 18x48. Mine was built in 1941, was likley in near continuous production for the entirety of WW2 (goverment ownership tags) then was owned by two seperate schools (again tags confirm this) was then owned by atleast one previous owner (the guy I bought it from) and it is still perfectly functional and precise. I also have a mill of similar heritage (minus the schools) and it is similarly functional. If you have a lathe, mill and broaching machine you can make just about any part for any of the machines if you have the right metal, as there are SEVEN large lathes there should be atleast 3-4 mills and broachers/tracers if you cannot find the right metal to replace a part then canabalize that machine for the others. I also own an Onan generator that can power all of my machines at the same time, its not much bigger than my gas powered Bobcat welder. And like I said you can remove the drive motor from a lathe and use anything that develops rotational force of sufficient torque in conjunction with belts and wheels or chains and gears to power the machines you see lathes/mills converted from electrical to gas powered in Amish shops all the time. Keep in mind the zombies will not be out there forever, they will get killed off you shouldn't have to put in all the effort of surviving the zombie apocalypse and mainaining the equipment for more than a few years once you can move freely again it becomes a matter of getting the power water and gas flowing in a world that now features far fewer people competeing for the resources .
