How about instead of becoming yet another boring kill-on-sight bandit wannabe you learn to take control of your situations and attempt to build up a group to hang with so you can cover one another? A game like DayZ will get real boring real fast if you just shoot at people.

Hopefully there won't be a wipe. I'm too attached to my gear! If it happens it happens, though.

Productive looting today(post your good/lucky finds here)

Don't lose hope, my friends and I don't KoS and I just ran into another friendly on the NEAF. Just scout sniper spots before you raid a place - snipers are generally not friendly by definition. -
Because Frankie would be very disappointed. And probably murder the hell out of you.

Bullets. Today I found lots of bullets. They are piling up, because I don't shoot at people, and there are few zombies. I have 1011 rounds of various types now, and no idea how I can still walk. My inventory is completely full, because I am waiting for my friends to come back after being chased away from the game by a sniper and an axe murderer, respectively. I have an FNX with flashlight and two magazines for one friend, and a full set of pristine m4 attachments for the other friend, along with two coupled magazines (I like that friend more). I will stick with my pristine mosin for overwatch and pristine FNX for close encounters, along with their full complement of pristine attachments. Heck, I'm even carrying a second LRS at the moment that I found by accident. I am probably the biggest loot piñata ever. ... Inb4characterwipefornextpatch :| -
I'm not the dense type that plays DayZ like you would a typical shooter. That's a pretty boring waste of time, since there are better shooters out there. After 120 hours I've only killed a couple of people who were trying to sneak up on me (no communication, at night), three armed guys at airfields, and one person who had already hit me once with a fire axe. Other than that, I either make contact and interact, or avoid people who look like they might be a threat. Reading some of the posts here though make me think it might be good to go bandit hunting from time to time, though. KoSers and campers are pretty easy to predict and stalk, after all.

Awesome read, too bad these forums don't want to let me give beans.

I just wear a motorcycle helmet. What's so hard about that?

You would not have survived six point blank magnum shots to any vital area - he either missed every shot, or maybe hit arms/legs with a single bullet. Magnums do a lot of damage. Then again... alpha, lag, etc

My first kill happened a few days after installing the standalone. I'd read that Balota was a good place to loot (lol) so I found my way there and met a random player. Neither of us had voice chat and neither knew how to do text chat. We stared at one another for a minute, then jogged to the barracks and looted them together. We each came out with an m4 and some attachments... and started looting the rest of the airfield. Saw a guy on top of the tower with what looked like another m4. We both dropped down to a crouch and used the nearby hangar for cover. Crept to the edge. Put a round in the tower guy's head, and moved on. It wasn't until after two more military bases and another dead looter on the way toward NWAF that my silent friend had to log out, but he dropped some extra food and water for me when he went. Never saw him again. Every kill since then has been the result of people doing incredibly stupid things, like sneaking up on me in the middle of the night and eating the inevitable hail of bullets that such antics will always, always earn you if you aren't careful.

All I wanted was to find a mag for my FNX45. Just one, so I could have it loaded while I used the flashlight on it. I'm used to military areas, but haven't had any luck at those at all, so I wanted to try something else. Elektro seemed reasonable, given that there was only one person on the server at the time, and I hadn't seen a single soul in well over a week of playing. So off I went, in the dead of night. I get to the first fire station without incident, and loot the first floor before approaching the stairs... where the single other person on the server charges out of the darkness and whacks me with a fire axe. Ouch, what the hell! But then again, that IS why I keep my revolver out while looting, even on low pop servers... After bandaging him up, taking away his axe and handcuffing him (I have no idea if he was still alive, I don't usually shoot people) I left to check out the second fire station, thoroughly rattled. On my way there the unconscious guy logs out. I notice another person has logged in, but what are the chances that this stranger will be anywhere near me in such a huge map? I get my answer halfway down the bottom steps after finishing up with the second fire station, where I see him milling about the shelves. I'm jumpy after my first run-in, and fire a few shots in his general direction to scare him off, which works well - I couldn't see if he was armed, but didn't want to take the chance. After several tense minutes of waiting where I hope he can't get a shot at me from outside, I see that he's logged out. Phew. Enough excitement for one sitting. I log out and eat a couple tacos. But... I still don't have my mag, so I fire DayZ back up after dinner and join another random one-person server. I'm still in the fire station, in a corner on one of the higher floors, so I start heading down... and see a flashlight. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I slowly, caaautiously creep down the steps, where I can see that the flashlight is coming from just on the other side of the near wall, in the main part of the building. It isn't moving, though - odd. I peek around the corner... and see some guy in a gas mask standing there apparently AFK or glitched, flashlight out, bleeding, with a zombie just chilling right behind him, apparently not interested in any brains he may have left. What the hell. I shoot him in the head (mercy killing?) and book it out of there, FNX magazine be damned. Screw this, I'm heading back to the NWAF where it's safe!

To the ones saying guns and ammo are impossible to find.

Does anyone have the heart to tell this guy that players can drop loot and close doors? I mean before he goes through all the trouble of uploading some useless video. I generally close all doors on high-value targets like barracks as I finish because I prefer not to tip people off that I'm in the area, and I also like slowing down anyone else who might be looting in the area by leading them to believe the building is untouched and might hold treasures. Apparently it works. -

The funny thing is that guns are not programmed to spawn with ammo or attachments, and ammo boxes are not coded to spawn with ammo. People who actually play know exactly what this thread is full of. -
I hope this actually quotes the post, it's not giving any indication of such after hitting the quote button... regardless: Perhaps you are having good luck, or I am having bad luck. After losing my character to the all-consuming public hive yet again, I decided to test out what kind of loot I could get by hitting zero-pop servers whose reset times I knew well enough to plan around. After three days of testing, all military areas fully looted (civilian areas only partially looted), all servers empty, all doors closed with idle zombies, directly after resets, here are the routes and results. I began server hopping at the end because I was shocked by the results. Day 1: East coast -> Rifty -> NEAF -> Gvozdno -> Grishino -> NWAF -> Military base -> (server reset) -> Military base -> (character reset by hive) Day 2-3: East coast -> Rifty -> NEAF -> Gvozdno -> Grishino -> NWAF -> Military base -> (server reset) -> Military base -> NWAF -> (server reset) -> NWAF -> Military base -> Zelenogorsk -> Military Base 2 -> (server reset) -> Military Base 2 -> Zelenogorsk -> Military Base -> NWAF -> (server switch) -> NWAF -> Military base -> {(server switch) -> Military base}x6 -> NEAF -> Rifty That is... 61 barracks, loads of jails, several fire stations, dozens of hangars, a handful of those buildings near the NWAF tents... By the end I was just continuing out of sheer disbelief. Excluding the ubiquitous and largely undesirable PU scope I found exactly four pristine attachments - one pistol flashlight, one of each type of suppressor, and a magpul handguard. The other attachments were almost entirely m4-related, difficult to find and in poor condition. m4s themselves were plentiful - I cataloged twenty-seven in total - as were magazines, including the coupled of which I found eleven. I also found thirteen mosins, but no compensators and exactly one badly damaged LRS. I lost count of magnums, and while I found about as many FNX45s I never found a single magazine for them. Bipods seemed to spawn decently, but in poor shape - the best I found was worn, the other seven were badly damaged. I plan on prioritizing other types of zones for future runs when I have more free time, but for right now military sites seem to be a god-awful waste of time and effort, especially on populated servers.

Still mad about my fully kitted out pristine mosin + press vest getting reset by the public hive. It always waits until I have some really good stuff before kicking me back to the coast, too. That'll teach me to log out ever.
-
Weapon spawns are not dialed back. M4s and pistols of both kinds are everywhere, and even mossins aren't tough to come by. Noobs will still spray n' pray until you die, the difference is now you won't be able to find those attachments you worked so hard for EVER AGAIN.

Why so many bandits? How to deal with them?
dricht1 replied to Catalpa's topic in New Player Discussion
Started playing in December, haven't been killed yet. Have lost all my stuff to the hive being derpy about two dozen times, though. People aren't that bad, just avoid them unless you're confident you have the upper hand. -
Reflex/panic killer is an important one. Announce yourself before you approach or you will probably get lit up, especially if you approach from behind... At night... At the NWAF... Sorry mystery guy >.>

How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??

I managed to find one LRS. Badly damaged. fml -
How to use the Walkie Talkie / Transmitter
dricht1 replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Do these really need instructions? The first thing I did was try to put a battery in the first one I found. The second thing I did was right click it. I figured it would be common sense at this point XD -

dricht1 replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
My attempt to find the LRS over the past several days: Spawn on east coast just after reset, hit cargo ship, NEAF, some towns, NWAF, military base, server reset, military base again, NWAF again, character reset by stupid public hive, spawn on east coast just after server reset, hit cargo ship, NEAF, some towns, NWAF, military base, server reset, military base, NWAF, server reset, NWAF, server reset, NWAF, military base, change servers, military base. All areas unlooted, with no players in the area, no open doors and idle zombies standing around, on an empty or nearly-empty server during off hours. All areas looted thoroughly, including the few buildings still spawning loot in the tent area. No scope or compensator, and only one 'worn' bipod. I am annoyed. -
Think that's bad? I've got around 40-45 hours and I've been reset over a dozen times. I keep abandoning the game for a week or so at a time because it is mind-numbingly tedious to have to spend so much time sloooooowly running between loot points looking for replacement gear. And I refuse to resort to server-hopping, despite how attractive that option is after losing so much. And of course, the better my gear the more prone the public hive is to decide it's time to hit the beach again. I have yet to be killed, but that hasn't stopped the game from snatching three mosins and at least eight m4s, more than half of them fully modded. I guess I'll be waiting until they can throw together something a little more stable before I really play. No other word for it but discouraging, even for an alpha. I hope this is priority one right now.
