I like loot spawning in certain places the way it does now, and I am looking forward to the day when the spawn rate on guns and such is turned down. I trip over an SKS or Mosin every time I turn around, and the pistols are even worse.

Zombie AI and pathing are buggy and incomplete right now, it looks like they're a pretty big focus and being reworked at the moment. From the ground up, if I'm not mistaken. Keep an eye out for future updates.

Hello Everyone-Unfair Deaths Anyone?
dricht1 replied to flamegunner3457's topic in New Player Discussion
I think I read somewhere that this happens when they hit you in the head. Even ballistic helmets don't seem to do much about melee. -
Are zombies really the hardest part of the game?
dricht1 replied to Schuey's topic in New Player Discussion
Zombies also die with one shot from any gun anywhere on the body, far as I can tell, so once you get a pistol you will pretty much never worry about them again. Instead you worry that the zombie flipping out to chase you or the gunshot you put it down with might attract the attention of someone else with a gun... -
On a freshly restarted server I found a good 150ish rounds in one airfield run - you just gotta get there before it's picked clean, because the SKS is a pretty common gun and the ammo is in demand.

If you spray someone with enough M4 bullets in DayZ to render them unconscious from shock or dead from bullet damage (both systems already modeled in the game) then they lose the ability to fight back immediately. Lag can sometimes make 'immediately' happen at different times for shooter and victim, though, and it's not going to be fixed by adding a whole new system. Optimizations might remedy this in the future, be patient until then.

Ever been hit by a 300fps paintball? Yeah, it hurts if it's close range, but it isn't going to knock you over, even if you multiply the force tenfold. And that's impact, not puncture. A puncture wound doesn't transmit force as effectively. Note that that's different from shooting something in an instantly fatal way. Yes, if you remove the brain or cause loss of function in some other way that will make the target drop. Which I think DayZ models pretty well, lag simply introduces difficulties.

Yeah, I kinda doubt the standalone will be making its way over anytime soon. Other really promising titles like Star Citizen are probably in the same boat (and most Macs don't have good enough hardware to run it anyway). You're better off just buying a PC if you really want to game, since you can put together something that outright demolishes everything Apple offers for about $1000-1500, and done right it'd play most games on max settings for years to come. Big initial investment, but it might save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Open doors (and perform many other actions) with the middle mouse button. If there is more than one action available you can scroll the mouse wheel to choose them. Teaming up with people in-game might help you get started, though meeting strangers can be extremely hit or miss in the current community. If you have friends who already play that'd probably be ideal, but you can PM me for my steam name as well.

I play on night servers frequently, but use the gamma exploit because I know other people are. It's just too easy to use for anyone to ignore it in such a high-stakes environment, where not seeing something (or using your flashlight) can mean instant death and character reset. I would enjoy it more if the exploit wasn't available.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I read that as having nothing to do with damage dealt to the character, just the items in your inventory. So if I get shot, instead of my entire backpack being ruined along with all of its contents (full bullet damage applied to everything) each damaged item will 'absorb' some of the inventory damage, so I might not lose everything all at once. Assuming I survive.

What made you think this would be any different from any of the previous updates? There are hundreds of servers run by various companies across multiple continents connecting to the public hive. Every time an update hits they take a little while to reconnect properly. Does it really need a thread every single time? Particularly when it's invariably answered in the dev tracker.

I'VE GOT THE SHINIEST MEAT BICYCLE

I have found four or five distinct inventory bugs gathering gear for friends who are supposed to be playing soon. Reported of course, but for now I am an even bigger loot piñata.

No one has ever answered my transmissions, even on populated servers in the middle of electrodeathmatchtime. :(

While I do like the idea of some form of real consequence for unrestrained KoS or murderous game play, I'm not sure exactly how that would work in a game where you can change your clothing and wear helmets so easily. You could have some form of visual or auditory cue when aiming at a murderer, I suppose, but it would probably need to be something other than a skin.

Stahp Rocket! You're ruining teh Alpha!
dricht1 replied to albinorhino's topic in General Discussion
I'm somewhat confused by all the posts about weapon rarity. I don't count pistols because they are EVERYWHERE, but in the four hours I've played since the update this morning I found two SKSes, a mosin, four m4s and a smattering of attachments. That's enough to kit out a large squad, and I've only been in two servers over the course of those two hours, hitting nowhere even remotely near every high value area on the map. Look harder. -
Nope! The game has been kind to me.

It does. Unless you lag, then it doesn't. Don't lag!

Are people opting to play SA more than the mod?
dricht1 replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Honestly the loot is what keeps me here instead of the mod. Clothing allows a personal touch, for starters, and finding mods for guns feels much more satisfying than the preset weapons in the mod, even though we don't have as many options here. I'm not sure exactly why. I've spent the past couple weeks gearing up my own character very carefully, and then grabbing some starter gear for friends who are planning to start later this week. Of course, along the way I'm also trying to find bugs to report, since it IS alpha. That last part has certainly kept me busy. Trying to fit two extra sets of basic gear on one character has led to discovering about four different inventory glitches... Though at least one of them was reported previously. -
After days and days of not finding any, I've found five in the past week. Only one pristine, not that it seems to matter. I feel slightly evil for always making sure to grab them and dump them in the woods. Don't snipe me bro!

Nah, real bandits don't simply kill people on sight unless the situation calls for it (and to be fair, sometimes it does... especially with combat logging). There are plenty of bandits who actually add flavor to the game with holdups, hostages, etc, and it wouldn't be nearly as good without them, even if they do frequently murder their victims. It's mostly the kids and newbies who play like it's a constant deathmatch, because they just don't know any better. I hope to see less KoS and more holdups now that the logout timer is in.

Productive looting today(post your good/lucky finds here)
dricht1 replied to Wolfarus's topic in New Player Discussion
Do you have a screenshot of the ballistics vest, and/or info on where it spawns? I've found a few Press Vests, a couple of Anti-Stab vests, tons of those UK Assault Vests, and a handful of Tactical Vests (though none since last update) but never a ballistic vest :( -
Er, please don't tell me you actually think offhand comments on an internet forum force people to think a certain way. I have more faith in humanity than that. And your suggestion is a bit puzzling... I personally don't find myself terribly motivated by causing frustration and suffering in other people, regardless of how trivial the situation may be. To be honest it sounds like a very strange thing to be motivated by at all - I'd go so far as to doubt even most KoSers do it strictly to ruin the other person's day. More likely they don't even consider it a factor.
