The CCSD (Chernarian Creepy Stuff Department) Needs investigators for the Radio transmission mystery.

If it was a Dev, wouldn't they have used the in-game map rather than the dayzdb online one? -
The CCSD (Chernarian Creepy Stuff Department) Needs investigators for the Radio transmission mystery.
merlointhesky replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
I'm really thrilled with your findings, guys. I record videos with afterburner, and would be happy to join in the investigations, although I don't have any skills with morse codes or other crypt methods :P the last message mentions 12:00 pm CST, is that also the time used in the game/server time? It could make sense that an american transmission using CST for their soldiers is not the actual time in the map :) -
What do we really want as far as Day/Night?
merlointhesky replied to crimsonbzd's topic in Suggestions
I agree with the fact that people that work, come home, and want to play a while always at the same time, will see always the same day/night period, missing out part of the game. In games like minecraft, the cicle is very short and, altough not realistic, allow you to experience enough of both alternatively. I think that a compromise between 1:1 and short shifts would work better. As for darkness and video settings "night time vision", I think that having to turn on a torch is part of the gameplay: get gear or be spotted? On the other hand, running out of batteries and having to crawl in darkness without an alternative source of light is unfortunate but I hope other sources of light will be added, like torches, lighting a match in your hand etc... -
What do we really want as far as zombies?
merlointhesky replied to crimsonbzd's topic in Suggestions
I voted for extreme amount of zombies in populated areas. I would add, also where it makes sense, i.e. airstrips with a certain amount of military zombies. One will have to worry about clearing the path before getting directly to a certain point of the city, or defend a certain bulding from people AND zombies to protect certain loot spawns. -
If hunting will come why not fishing as well?
merlointhesky replied to Sonic-NKT's topic in Suggestions
let's hope this is already on the todo list, or that they will add it at some point. Even with the chance to make your own fishing rod out of sticks and finding fishing lines in ports or buildings nearby lakes. -
Not sure this has been discussed before, but seeing as there are models for burnt down buildings, I was wondering whether it would be a cool feature to be able to set a building in fire and burn it down. Doing so it would prevent items to spawn in that place, until the building magically came back to its original situation after X hours. I think it would add to gameplay, where you can see someone in a military bulding and start a fire in it to "trap" the person in. Or tie people in a bulding, put a sack on their head and let them burn to death. Or simply prevent other people from looting the same place for a while. As to how to start a fire, I believe there are a variety of items already in game or that I believe are going to be added, that can be used for the purpose: matches and logs, gas canisters, molotovs, crashing a car into it etc..
-
depends. How much of the resources mentioned would neeed to be gathered to do so? And those players would find themself exposed and eventually killed after a couple of house burnt? I think it would be down to how popular the server is, and if there are people who care about those buldings (even a bandit would defend they HQ from arson) Plus it would add an extra use to fire extinguishers, which can be used to stop a fire from spreading.

I feel like this is more like a noob question, so posting this in the new players section. What level of protection does military equipment offer in game and how it compares to real life? I've been wondering this since last night, after I survived a fight with some random at the NE airstrip. my gear: motorbike helmet (pristine), tactical shirt, cargo pants, tactical vest, jungle boots, glasses. weapon: splitting axe. all of those pristine or worn. I reach the house gate and get someone to rain bullets with an M4 to me. I managed to hide and run behind the military building in time to get my axe in my hands and assault the guy. I was already bleeding. He was wearing ballistic helmet, gas mask, tactical vest, shirt and cargo pants, military boots. He didn't notice me attacking from behind and managed to get some blood off him before he got his magnum out and unloaded it on me. I survived. I keep hitting him on his head while he tries to take his fireaxe out but he falls unconscious. At this point I take his M4 out and finish him with 2 shots to his head. I notice his M4 has badly damaged parts, which might have helped me survive the first attack (he probably got my legs) but how did I not die from the magnum?? Either he just shot to my chest and the equipment took the most damage (my shirt and pants are ruined, but the tactical vest is pristine!) or I'm really lucky for once? :)

I think that most of the things you describe are what the game is meant to be in a more finished state. At the moment there are technical issues which are stopping the DEVs from allowing item respawn and more zombies. Once that will happen, I believe there will be a change in behaviour as well: protecting some nice area where better things respawn, defending the military base etc etc while cleaning up from zombie respawn. At the moment it's just greedy-greedy go everywhere and loot. When nothing is left, either kill or die. I won't mention the other option, but I know you are all already thinking it :P

Never played Saints Row, so no :) But I played many other games. Introducing something like you are suggesting would mean introducing classes, which has been a "no no" on other topics, even if you say they are just clothes. As soon as clothes give a benefit and you can choose them from character creation like you suggest, they become "class clothes". Unlockable clothes to personalize your character on login instead wouldn't provide any benefit, just increased personalisation when you are reborn. But I hope that once the developers get to that aspect of the game, they will add more than just clothes selection.
-
rather than random, could this be something that you earn through playing the game? like... unlockable extra clothing on the character editing screen. It has to be only something related to how a player look, not providing any type of bonus, imho. This way they could introduce seasonal clothing too, as achievement... like a santa hat... for killing a deer... on xmas? And a special DayZ "I was here on Day Z" t-shirt for all the alpha testers :P

I prefer coupling a long range mosin to an FNX45, using the first when running in the wilds and using the scope to check the situation when I try enter a city/big town. Pistol in my hand when I explore buildings looking for loot. I never lost a close fight against an m4 with that. Imho sticking in big cities is a bit like asking for trouble. If you are trying to find loot, go in not popular towns. Your friends will catch up with you wherever they spawned again. I wouldn't stick around with random people either, unless they are friendly or invite you to join them on skype/other voice program.
-
my 2 cents: look around the places and learn to recognize where you spawn and where is the closest water pump. Getting the hang of where you are and where you are going will save you alot of time. closed doors might mean loot available inside that building, but also someone waiting for you, if they heard you, be cautious.

ok thanks, so I guess in the rush he failed to aim for my head and get me unconscious. I still took 6 shots from a magnum point blank though :D

Is The Ship Still A Glitchy Death Trap?
merlointhesky replied to G-lens's topic in New Player Discussion
been inside the wreck once, mostly on the rear side. Managed to get to the captain cabin after going through most of the cabins and other storage places. Climbed up the metal scrap to the bridge and got out of there safely, if you don't count my dump boots :D -
Hi All I was playing around with some of the items in game and found myself overlooking potential of defining specific "roles" just by equipping certain items. Of course this is also subjective as to what you think is characteristic of a certain profession rather than type of person. At any rate, I've started posting on my blog images like this: with a small description as to what and why it was chosen. More posts already on my blog and more coming soon. http://dayzrottenbananas.wordpress.com

I have not found any topic about this, but I believe this game needs booze! It could have different degrees (beer 5-6, wine 14-18, liqueurs 25+, distilled 45+). An alternative would be mixing soda cans and alchool (in an empty canteen or bottle?) to create unique cocktails! i.e. Pipsi + alchool = Chernogosk Libre... Drinking alchool could give energy but cause slower reflexes or worse aim. Abuse of alchool could cause puking or in extreme cases death.

Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

masks are useless, they are just cosmetic -
thoughts on renaming towns/cities? or at least adding a map?
merlointhesky replied to drgreenz420's topic in Suggestions
there is that small town with no names north than Komarovo which my clan nicknamed "waterpump town", since there's more of those than people :p I like the idea of having to find out where you are, altough after travelling for a while I start to recognize places and know directions. Like in real life! -
I really hope in future there is going to be more customisations avilable when selecting how your character looks, but I believe this has been discussed in other threads.
-
that would be a deterrant, won't prevent players from sniping other players if they want to :)

What DayZ also needs to be even more realistic?
merlointhesky replied to Otis.Driftwood's topic in Suggestions
I think he means that when it's very cold, it's not really healthy to drink chilled soda, but you rather make yourself coffee/tea -
let's try and give a constructive reply, even if it's a troll.. or a genuine curious who couldn't find a KoS thread or simply the suggestions forum. the idea the KoS is a game issue, is a wrong concept, imho, to start with. Yes, the game allows you to start shooting/clobbering another player without previous advice, but this is what happens in real life, ain't it? Nobody says... "hello.. how are you? can I slice your throat, pretty please?" or if they do, it's their own choice Implementing a pvp flag system would remove the realism of an harsh world which is what I believe it's trying to be represented in this game and would add chances of grief/bugs/hacks that would be seen as bad to players who get flagged while they do not want to. I see alot of this in other games. Not allowing KoS would also take away gameplay where you can be sneaking in the dark and assaulting another player, for example, or sniping from a crane.. or jumping out of the shower with a fireaxe etc... Zombies are not the scariest thing in this game, and this is what makes this game different. I guess that if you don't want to be KoS, the only solution is to get a private server and play there with your friends.

With the amount of people playing, I guess all the shiny lewt goes quickier than before. But I successfully managed to loot interesting things even in Berezino yesterday (hacksaw and shotgun!)

would like to see natural caves or sewer systems explorable
merlointhesky replied to bdm634's topic in Suggestions
It all depends how long it has been from the zombie outbreak, my personal perception so far is that when you "spawn", things happened relatively recently and the survivors have to start a new type of life, hence being not prepared for what's happening around you. Otherwise we would all start in a bunker, similarly to fallout, imho :)
