My preferred solution is an sks on my back and the M4 in hands. A powerfull combination. That said when pushed I keep the M4 and give the sks to a buddy.

Don't trust gun sounds, my friend was trying out his sks not 10m away from me. He fired the full 10 and I only heard 3. Agree that eating sounds are very distinctive. -

Never really found this to be a problem. Found plenty of magnum, mosin and sks in the piano house, hospitals, school et al. Only found m4's at the military bases though. -

Blue, lots of blue. Beret and press vest would be cool. Obviously it would be abused by bandits, but anything bar a proper humanity system going to be. The trade off being they are trading their nice camouflage for high contrast blue.
