5-10 minutes you say? Must depend on the server or something because I was experiencing it every 30 seconds. -

You could say that about any building or model that isn't a loot spawn or directly interacted with by the player. And how would Chernarus look without details like bus stops, feed shacks, pumpkin patches, power lines etc, ya know basic things that you'd see in an inhabited area in real life? It would be completely bland and uninteresting with no character. You're obviously not on the right page buddy. Oh and trains aren't gonna make it in to the game btw. -
the bow is terrible at anything longer than melee range
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Hi Im Brad's topic in General Discussion
Well it is a wooden stick with a rope tied to each end. Don't know what you were expecting, it ain't a modern compound bow with a laser scope and under-slung grenade launcher. -

Don't really understand what they're playing at by increasing the metabolism of characters so drastically. The logical choice would have just been to leave the energisation/hydration mechanic the way it was and nerf food spawns. If people are still dying due to the lack of reliable ways of obtaining food (which I'm sure will improve once horticulture is in and animal count is up) then at least it's somewhat believable. Going from perfectly healthy and hydrated to shrivelled husk in 15 minutes is just silly. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
It's okay you didn't burst anybody's bubble. I'm not an expert but the likes of Zastava are not state-owned companies, they do produce arms for counties like Serbia however. The fact that some Eastern European arms manufactures produce versions of the AR-15 means absolutely nothing. They are mostly joint-stock companies that produce arms by their own admission for various consumers, whether it be civilian markets or state military services. I'm sure many of these companies probably do license produce Western firearms for various Eastern European armed forces in a limited capacity but I'd say that 'Luvo' probably sells their AR-15s to the civilian market mostly. That's disregarding the fact that an AR-15 isn't exactly an expensive weapon to produce, the SCAR-H is. You also didn't pick up on the fact that I was saying it would be okay if random expensive Western firearms were thrust in to DayZ as long as they were fairly rare. The CDF has already been been shown to use mainly AKs and other Russian weapons in ARMA 2. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
This isn't a first person shooter game though really so maintaining this perfect spawn balance between weapons shouldn't really be top priority. I've said it a billion times but my primary desire when it comes to weapons is authenticity combined with a nice varied selection. It's just got to be a matter of fact that some weapons are going to be better than others and some weapons are going to be similar in function. I do think it would be nice if the devs provided an incentive to pick rarer NATO weapons over other guns through modularity and accuracy, but in real life an M4 is just going to be superior to an AK in some ways and inferior in other ways. What matters is choice. -

Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Yeah but would that happen in reality? Since when have poor Eastern European countries been licensed to produce modern expensive Western firearms. Using your example, if the 'CR-17H' spawned rarely then I wouldn't have a problem, maybe the Chernarus Defence Force did license produce SCARs for their special forces. I'd just personally prefer to maintain a level of authenticity and viability when it comes to weapon selection. If we say 'oh well Chernarus is a fictional country based on a myriad of real life countries so there's no boundaries to cross' then we might as well imagine the CDF using astronaut suits as their standard battle fatigues and license producing gatling guns as their primary infantry weapon system. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I just want the bulk of weapons to be native Chernarussian. I have no problem whatsoever with NATO firearms being added in fact the more the merrier. Soviet weapons should spawn in barracks and general military spawns while NATO weapons should spawn at heli sites. There would obviously be a few cross overs especially with firearms chambered in 9mm Parabellum simply because it's so widespread. -
whelp, looks like the glitchiest patch yet :S
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to hellzbro's topic in General Discussion
Bullshit, it's been the best stable update for a long time. You had one or two bad experiences and then you come here and make a brash rage post like this. I've probably put a good 10-20 hours in since .49 and I haven't experienced anything that you've said. I have experienced a bit of desync, zombies have clipped through walls a couple of times and a few other inconsequential mishaps. Nothing serious and definitely a step up from .48. -

Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

Missing my primary point which is that 9x18mm is endemic to Russia Eastern-bloc states. The .380 is primarily used in the homes of Americans for recreational shooting. Personally I think the developers should do everything they can to foster a unique post- Soviet kinda of feeling in DayZ. I think games like STALKER and Metro 2033 are a good example to follow when attempting to build a apocalyptic zombie horror/survival type game and I'll admit my admiration for these games factors in a good amount when thinking about DayZ. The 9x18mm Makarov is iconic in many Eastern European countries and as a gun nut I think it would add to the kind of atmosphere that STALKER and co seem to ooze. My secondary point was that most weapons chambered in .380 are extremely uncommon variants of weapons originally chambered for other ammunition and every single weapon except for the Skorpion you listed there is a token variant of a weapon that was originally manufactured with 9x18 M in mind. Sorry but a .380 Makarov just feels wrong to me but as I've said I'm a big fan of firearms and I'm pretty biased in that regard. From your previous posts it seems like you belong in the camp that doesn't really have any motivation to cultivate a unique feel and tone in DayZ through the medium of firearms & ammunition. You just want balance and variety judging by your suggestions of adding weapons like the hideous F2000 and TAR-21. That's absolutely fine and you're entitled to your opinion. You've even justified the existence of weapons like these by using quotes by Chris Torchia that seem to open the door to any type of weapon imaginable being inserted in to Chernarus. But as I've said, I would really like to preserve that lovely and neglected bleak post-Soviet feel that would lend itself so well to DayZ. By the way your arguing style comes off as very abrasive sometimes, don't know whether you mean it or not but just chill it's just a light-hearted discussion. edit: yes the whole debacle about not wanting to add two 9mm cartridges because it would have blown newbies minds was stupid. -
New military base west of Myshkino
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't suit Senchi's style. They've literally just copied the Balota base and pasted it down in a random field. The balance is all off as well. I think we're going to see a proper, fleshed out military base built partially from scratch. -

The 9x18mm is purely for authenticity's sake. It doesn't feel right using .380 auto in a post-Soviet setting. The 9x18mm Makarov is probably the most common pistol cartridge in Russia and surrounding countries and is pretty iconic. The .380 also doesn't leave any doors open with regards to adding in new weapons. The only firearms that use it are variants of other 9x19 or 9x18 weapons that were never mass-produced and rather obscure Western pistols. Tbh we don't really need more pistols at the moment. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
If I was in control of the direction weapons are going in DayZ I'd have a clear plan. It would be something like this: Split 7.62 in to two seperate cartridges: 7.62x51 NATO and 7.62x54R for Soviet era weapons (Mosin, SVD, PKM. I'd like to add a few extremely common 7.62x51 battle rifles that have seen use across the globe for the past 40 years. Either the FN FAL, the H&K G3 or both would be nice. Change .380 ACP to 9x18 Makarov add the Bizon SMG and rename Makarov PM and PM-63 RAK Expand upon and complete a standard selection of Soviet/Russian military firearms to flesh out military base spawns. Would like to see a few rare weapons like the VSS Vintorez, PKM and SV-98 added as well as the special purpose 9x39mm for use with rare Russian weapons. Continue to flesh out the civilian weapon table. Would like to see a few more Russian/Eastern European hunting rifles and shotguns added for variety's sake. -
New military base west of Myshkino

I really don't think the Myshkino base will be there for much longer. It will probably be removed completely or partially reworked as part of Tisy military base. -

Loot spawns - anyone else frustrated?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to johnny0964 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ugh.. It's such a shame to see what the DayZ community has turned in to. A bunch of care-bears who want every single aspect of the game simplified and made easy for them. You think AKMs are rare now? Fuck that they should be even rarer. The devs should aim to balance weapons in a similar way to how they were balanced when the mod was first released. I remember finding an M4 in a deer-stand back in the days and it was like Christmas, I didn't go near a town for days because I was terrified of losing it. Now that 2.5 million people have bought in to it we've had a massive influx of these god damned cursed people who think the glory days of loot balance was when the fucking SA was released and there were M4s in every other fucking outhouse. God it makes me so disappointed and I hope to God the devs completely ignore the masses with regards to loot balancing. There should be 1 civilian class long firearm (Mosin, CR-527) per moderate sized town (Chernaya Polana) on average and a trip to a military base should not be a guaranteed full camo suit and AKM with 5 full magazines. That'd be a good start in the endeavour of seperating the boys from the men. Go and play the mod for DayZ mod 'DayZero' if you want a schooling in loot balancing. Sorry for ranting and raving but coming on to the official DayZ mod forum, opening a topic like this and seeing that probably the majority of players are in favour of more firearms just incenses me as an original DayZ mod player and DayZ fanatic. You see similar comments on Reddit as well all of the time. Get a fucking grip people, this is a fricking survival game for Christ's sake. -
Now this is a good list. One of the better ones I've seen for sure. On the other hand I don't agree with the sentiment expressed by - Karma - at all. I think having a wide selection of firearms is crucial for providing a realistic environment. The reason you're proposing that there be only one weapon per use is derived from a FPS mindset whereby balance is the key factor. Balance shouldn't be what the devs aim for when it comes to weapons they should be trying to achieve variety and authenticity. Not to mention gun enthusiasts like myself will be extremely upset if there merely 10-15 weapons in the final release. 'More weapons, less spawns' is my motto.
-
No. Stupid idea.
-
I'm actually really in to authenticity in regards to weapons and items, but I think it would be pretty cool if old soviet infantry mortars were an extremely rare spawn that required setting up, an instruction manual (also rare) and two people to use it. It would come in handy later in the development stages when player structures are fully implemented. Just thinking about an ace-in-the-hole kind of contraption of the same vein as the Governor's tank in The Walking Dead. On second thoughts it's also perfectly realistic to find the likes of an RM-38 in a post-soviet setting too, completely different from the likes of AS50s and other exotic gear. I know there's a massive hard-on for sticks and stones right now but we have to remember that there are a multitude of military bases strewn around Chernarus and they need feasible loot spawns for the sake of authenticity too.

Kiev Riots - DayZ SA Gear Inspiration

After seeing these pictures I'd like the devs to add balaclavas, hard hats, knee/elbow pads, tomahawks, rain ponchos and more heavy coats (trench coats anybody?). -
World War 2 Weapons Thread (Poll)
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to King of kong's topic in Suggestions
I think WW2 relics should definitely be in the game, they should be a bit less common than civilian firearms though. I'd like to see civilian hunting rifles/shotguns crossbows and self-made weapons placed at the bottom of the weapon hierarchy followed by old WW2 weapons like the PPSH, Tokarev, SVT-40, Mauser followed by Kalashnikovs, PKs, SVDs and then NATO weapons, which should be extremely rare. I'd be stoked if they went for authenticity when it comes to firearms rather than pandering to American gun-enthusiasts and CoD kiddies by adding tons of high-tech assault rifles and machine guns. I'd primarily like to find Russian, Czech and Romanian civilian market weapons that I've never heard of before and lots of CZs. -
Item Conditions: Which Actually Matter?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Tabris07's topic in General Discussion
Does anybody else think whole damage system is completely fucked at the moment? An exit wound is usually just of the same diameter as the ammunition that causes it, so it makes no sense that a single bullet to the torso ruins 80% of items contained on the players torso (backpack, loading vest, shirt). -
"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to gamerer's topic in General Discussion
Firstly, I've been playing the alpha for about 120 hours now, and I've probably put about 1000+ hours in to the various DayZ mods so I'm not a naive noob like you imply. I don't play this game to survive. Running around in the woods fully geared is not my idea of fun, player interaction is where I find enjoyment and if I die as a result of being too good to people then that's a bad reflection on their character not mine. Not to mention I generally don't give a shit about dying unless it's because of a bug or glitch.
