Clipping thread - if you see clipping post here.
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
Let's be honest, seems like items clip through one another more often than not. It's especially prevalent with masks and headgear. If the issue stems from the explanation S3V3N gave then I'm afraid they'll never get around to fixing these problems. Shame because clipping is one of my main pet peeves with this game. I know it's not a major issue but it's definitely not desirable. -
Pistol mags and the Makarov.
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Borges (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hicks has said that in the future there will be a chance that mags will spawn with weapons. I can't be arsed finding the quote you'll just have to take my word. -
Hopefully in the future it will get some of sweet unique sound effect. Sound identical to the Magnum at the moment. Speaking of sounds, wonder when the sound engineer is going to release his first portion of work on experimental? I remember reading that sounds were going to be released in large amounts periodically. I hope most of the weapon sounds are re-done, most of them are currently pretty lacklustre I think but I understand most of the sounds are place-holders.

Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
I didn't imply laziness at all, you're putting words in my mouth. They probably just didn't want to commit the resources to surveying an area hundreds of miles away but as I said I'm just guessing. -

Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
Without a doubt Chernarus is based on a Black Sea post-Soviet state with heavy historical links to Russia like Ukraine or Georgia. The alphabet, architecture equipment of the CDF all suggest this. It's true that Chernarus is geographically based on an area in the Czech Republic but georgraphy has no bearing on culture, language and history. The only reason it's based on an area of the Czech Republic is because Bohemia Interactive are a Czech company and they probably didn't want to spare the funds time and staff to extensively photograph and study an area in Ukraine or Russia although this is purely assumption on my part. -
Should be a .45 variant in my opinion. That cartridge needs some love, the only weapon that uses it at the moment is the 1911.

That's not even counting the back-end stuff like security enhancements, the more robust server/client interaction, vastly superior UI, network bubble and other things. Not to mention when features like barricading and vehicles actually are released they're going to be infinitely better than in the mods. I've said it before and I'll say it again: people vastly over-estimate the mod and look back at it through rose-tinted glasses all of the time. It had major issues and limitations same as the standalone.

to whoever I killed at NWAF, thanks for the perfect m4

Quality post right here guys. Puts Reddit to shame. -
the bow is terrible at anything longer than melee range
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Hi Im Brad's topic in General Discussion
Well it is a wooden stick with a rope tied to each end. Don't know what you were expecting, it ain't a modern compound bow with a laser scope and under-slung grenade launcher. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?

It's okay you didn't burst anybody's bubble. I'm not an expert but the likes of Zastava are not state-owned companies, they do produce arms for counties like Serbia however. The fact that some Eastern European arms manufactures produce versions of the AR-15 means absolutely nothing. They are mostly joint-stock companies that produce arms by their own admission for various consumers, whether it be civilian markets or state military services. I'm sure many of these companies probably do license produce Western firearms for various Eastern European armed forces in a limited capacity but I'd say that 'Luvo' probably sells their AR-15s to the civilian market mostly. That's disregarding the fact that an AR-15 isn't exactly an expensive weapon to produce, the SCAR-H is. You also didn't pick up on the fact that I was saying it would be okay if random expensive Western firearms were thrust in to DayZ as long as they were fairly rare. The CDF has already been been shown to use mainly AKs and other Russian weapons in ARMA 2. -

This isn't a first person shooter game though really so maintaining this perfect spawn balance between weapons shouldn't really be top priority. I've said it a billion times but my primary desire when it comes to weapons is authenticity combined with a nice varied selection. It's just got to be a matter of fact that some weapons are going to be better than others and some weapons are going to be similar in function. I do think it would be nice if the devs provided an incentive to pick rarer NATO weapons over other guns through modularity and accuracy, but in real life an M4 is just going to be superior to an AK in some ways and inferior in other ways. What matters is choice. -

Yeah but would that happen in reality? Since when have poor Eastern European countries been licensed to produce modern expensive Western firearms. Using your example, if the 'CR-17H' spawned rarely then I wouldn't have a problem, maybe the Chernarus Defence Force did license produce SCARs for their special forces. I'd just personally prefer to maintain a level of authenticity and viability when it comes to weapon selection. If we say 'oh well Chernarus is a fictional country based on a myriad of real life countries so there's no boundaries to cross' then we might as well imagine the CDF using astronaut suits as their standard battle fatigues and license producing gatling guns as their primary infantry weapon system. -
Weapons - Where Should They Go Next?
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I just want the bulk of weapons to be native Chernarussian. I have no problem whatsoever with NATO firearms being added in fact the more the merrier. Soviet weapons should spawn in barracks and general military spawns while NATO weapons should spawn at heli sites. There would obviously be a few cross overs especially with firearms chambered in 9mm Parabellum simply because it's so widespread. -
whelp, looks like the glitchiest patch yet :S
Count_Blackula (DayZ) replied to hellzbro's topic in General Discussion
Bullshit, it's been the best stable update for a long time. You had one or two bad experiences and then you come here and make a brash rage post like this. I've probably put a good 10-20 hours in since .49 and I haven't experienced anything that you've said. I have experienced a bit of desync, zombies have clipped through walls a couple of times and a few other inconsequential mishaps. Nothing serious and definitely a step up from .48. -

Seems like you're on a completely different page to myself, a large chunk of the community and probably the development team.
