    Bandit or not, you decide...

To be honest, I would feel guilty for killing a player, especially since I know about the hard work the poor sod has gone through.

    whats with punishing bandits?

There wouldn't be any benefits for not shooting people because there aren't. This isn't a movie portrayal of the ZA, this is a brutal and gritty portrayal where you are on your own.
  3. It's a cool idea, but what is considered as "offensive action"? Also, does it simulate the effects of killing a shed load of people? I'm not going to go down the "omgz iz not relistc" route, but could there be another way of implementing a feature such as this. Maybe as a side effect, you start shaking or whatever people go through when they kill another human being (dreams?)

    Tales of a butthurt player...

Zombies haven't come shambling down my lawn yet, but I'll bookmark it. :D

Dont Shoot a Player Day Truce!!

Uhhm. No. Sorry. I would love it, and it's a great idea, but it wouldn't work. Dayz forums is just a small portion of dayz players.

    Tales of a butthurt player...

Yes there is. Why do you think bandits are bandits? Your stuff and if they have stuff, for fun. Do you not doubt that people will lose their minds in the Zombie Apocalypse if it was real? Do you think that seasoned survivors would just say "That guy has enough ammo and food to last me for a day? Nah, I don't need that, I'll leave him alone"? This isn't a romanticized portrayal of the ZA. It's a realistic and brutal one.

    I'm Now a Deathmatch Player

My advice is to lay low when playing. Act as if there will be a nut who's out for your beans in the next 25 seconds, and do not go down to their level. I can see from your thread that you are not one of those butthurt players who were born to whine. You're better than that.
  9. Sorry mate, but just because you make the game a little harder, doesn't mean it's going to wipe out Deathmatch gameplay. Resources will become more scarce and will be more sought after.

    Social incentives needed

Agreed here, once I was holed up in a barn where another survivor came in with a bunch of zombies in his tail. Usually, I would have just killed him as he could probably see the chem light, but if I shot him, I would have to kill the zed myself.

Broken bones, no morphine, not fun.

There are 3 hospitals. Crawl to them. I did. It's really satisfying when you do. I also found some basic tools too.

    Which was your first gun?

Lee enfield. The gun that ended my life due to being too damn loud :D

    DayZ Stories

Just thought I'd post about my first time with Dayz to split up the sarcastic one liners :P This was a while ago so I may not remember everything. - The barn looked as good a place to scavenge as any. There were a few zed around, but nothing I couldn't sneak past. A few minutes later and not one zed alerted. My instincts were correct. Inside, I find a whopping Winchester 1866! Finally, all that searching has paid off... "Person inside the barn, friendly?! That startled me. Friendly? What does that mean? Do people actually kill each other in this hellish world? Are people that desperate that they'll kill you? "Y..yes" I shout back. I hear screams. Screams of zed. The person nearby enters the barn and comes up to my position. The shooting of the zed begins in earnest. It was a good time to give my new toy a test run. It worked wonders compared to my flimsy Makarov. One shot to the body and that was enough to take one down. The new companion however preferred to use his sidearm and pick headshots off. The onslaught of Zed lasted five minutes. In that time, they were all gone. "Sorry for leading them to you." "No worries." "Where are you headed?" "Anywhere really. Just surviving." "I'm going to loot some deer stands, want to come?" Deer stands? What were they? "No thanks, I'm alright." The parting was tense. I could see it in his eyes he was expecting a bullet to fly, his hand hovered around his holster. I disappeared. A city was nearby, I would scavenge some more until the end of the day. It was getting dark. I didn't find much of use. A few bandages and some ammo for my Makarov. I needed to rest for the night, but the city didn't seem like a good place. Unlike the barn, the zed were everywhere and only patience and a little bit of luck has got me this far. I returned and settled at the top of the barn. I lit a flare and waited. Big mistake. A lone figure entered the barn. Another person. I panic, then remember what my friend said to me. "Friendly?" He doesn't reply, but instead darts under the floor. I can't shoot him. He can't shoot me. Stalemate. Putting trust in my Winchester, I believe to have the upper hand. "Crawl out under and leave. If I find you have popped your head out to shoot at me, I'll shoot it off" What a stupid thing to say. He popped his head out out from underneath. I didn't shoot it off and instead, he shot at me. Bleeding heavily. Zed coming into the barn. I fire a shot. He fires a shot. More zed attacking my attacker. I pass out to see my attacker suffer at the hands of the dead. You are dead.

    Such Frustration & Some Feedback

Hope you don't mind the fact that I skipped the soppy story. If I wanted to hear it, then I'd check the sticky thread. However. Foremost is the apparent shortage of drinks. I don't know if I just got unlucky, but I found it very difficult to keep myself in fluids. It was while I was running between towns after another fruitless search that it occured to me - in that enviroment there should be no way a person can die from lack of fluids. Water is everwhere and it rains nearly all the time. We need some sort of mechanism that allows us to drink directly from lakes or collect rain water. There is. Legs, meet lake. Gear, meet empty water bottle. Right click, meet fill water. The only thing rarer than drink is morphine... and pistols. During my travels I saw a scoped sniper rifle, countless Winchesters and LeeEnfields. But only 1 Makarov. Dayz is meant to be a brutal experience. I know this is in Mother Russia and all that, but weapons are rare. That's the point. Same with morphine. Same with meds; too many bandages to count, enough painkillers to get by but not a single morphine injector. I can understand that survival should be tough, but when a broken leg for a lone surviver means almost certain death there needs to be a atleast some hope for them that if they crawl around the town then they have some chance of being able to fix themselves. Agree about the abundance of bandages. Again, dayz is meant to be unforgiving. Painkillers and the such are rare. But I guess the biggest killer for me was how after all the effort and some luck, I had managed to get myself into good shape and survival was definately on the cards. This was all wiped out in an instant when that zombie suddenly decided that he could bend the laws of physics and run through those crate to break my leg. I know, it's an alpha and I'm certain other people have similar stories to tell. It is an alpha. So yeah, at the end of the day Dayz is like that because it is MEANT to be like that. It is MEANT to be brutal. It is MEANT to be unforgiving and it is MEANT to have the disappointment of loss. Have fun :)
  17. You can hide the tent? Alpha. No. No. Absolutely not - vehicles are supposed to be rare. ...and incredibly balanced. Balance again, it would be easy if the zombies shuffled at you with the speed of a snail. Get some NVGs or turn the gamma up.
