But why do we have to report when you're already here? That's like a cop at a crime scene telling a victim to call the cops.

Comparing the .22's damage to how other rounds work in this game isn't worth debating right now, as it has already been stated that the current damage values are way off. This discussion is about how the .22 SHOULD be respected down the road. For anyone who says otherwise, I invite you to shoot yourself in the head with a .22 and see how easy it is to shake off. Edit - Last statement is meant as a snarky comment, not an actual invitation to kill yourself.

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Actually, because DayZ is now a licensed product on the market, and modded servers asking for donations could be shut down. I thing they would have to provide a complete list of who donated how much and prove they didn't turn a profit. Otherwise, BI could file a lawsuit. -

The mistake was replying to this thread ;/ I never learn. Some people don't understand the purpose of a pre-purchase alpha of a game. It's a risky investment and people need to keep a realistic attitude about what it entails. The OP is within his right to be frustrated, but his refusal to accept reality is his problem, and his alone. Don't let it drag you into annoyance or this thread will turn into a flame war and attract mods. -

Just because I keep getting burned when I touch a hot stove, after repeated warnings, ain't gonna stop me from bitchin' about it! I paid for that stove, I have rights, dammit! -
Getting knocked out in one punch isn't hard to do, but you really have to put your weight into it and solidly connect. If you glance them or they roll with it before a full follow through is achieved, you may simply daze of irriate them. Usually a knock out happens because the person getting hit doesn't see it coming (sucker punch) or they accidently move into the hit. The knockouts I've seen in street fights also occur because the first connected hit only unbalanced the person and then the attacker takes the advantage and starts raining blows.

You're going to invite a lot of hostility with this thread. I understand you need to vent, but this isn't going to do any good for anyone. If you don't want your character wiped, you made a huge mistake buying this alpha. It didn't give you a giant disclaimer before you bought the game just for shits and giggles. This is a bug riddled, glitchy test version of what the game migt become. A lot of people seem to think the "DO NOT BUY THIS GAME" warning was a clever marketing reverse psychology trick, despite going into great detail what problems you may face (character wipes being guaranteed). No one is saying it doesn't suck, but you should probably take a break and come back when things get a bit more stable. At worst, you basically pre-ordered a game you want for a discount. At best, you pre-ordered a game that will be something you hate a year from now. Here's hoping it's the former. -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
The other point we are trying to make, successfully or not, is making our own private server still doesn't solve one of the problems; player diversity. When you run a private server you eventually get to know everyone and you don't get that X factor of running into random people all the time. I played Ragnarok Online on a friend's private server for a couple of months. Aftet a couple of weeks, I pretty much knew all 300 players and how they played, i.e. if they were hostile or friendly. Made the PvP factor very boring. -

Not crying, and that's not necessary. It has also been more than a "few" experiences.Like I said earlier, even these public hives that had active admins routinely kicked people for any BS reason they felt like. Even the server my old clan hosts had one person who lost his admin privileges because he was kicking for stupid reasons, but ONLY after BI started to enforce their rules, leading me to believe this would have continued if not for a 3rd party threatening to intervene. Edit - and to reiterate, when you make those little comments about "crying", you're still coming across as someone trying to slide in little jabs here and there. Again, if your goal is to goad people into flaming. So please don't act surprised when people respond negatively. And despite writing this, I'm still doing it in a polite manner and without disrespect. I'm not doing it to show "I'm better than you", but because reading more threads tonight, I've seen you post free of any hint of an insult. I'd like to see more so we can hopefully have an actually constructive debate. We can disagree and never reach an agreement, but this is also about a video game. There is no reason anyone should be taking any threads as a personal insult. -
Aspects that accumulatively wear on your patience in dayz
Demoth replied to randalmcdaniels's topic in General Discussion
Maybe I'm a stupid newb and there is a way to change this... but I hate how the "use" key is also the "change magazine type" key when you have an M4 and different tyoes of mags. Nothing worse than trying to storm a house only to be sliiightly off from center and instead of opening the door, you noisily change a mag and get shot in the face because you're stuck in the animation. -

It's also amazing when you build up a character with time and energy only to have a sore loser toss your progress out because they couldn't stand losing to you. There have been a lot of good arguments for and against private hives. There have also been some good citations on how private servers harmed people who wanted to play on vanilla servers. If you wish to continue your alternation between being passive aggressive and overly aggressive, fine. I'll leave you to continue your debate techniques no matter how distasteful I find them. I'm not a mod, so I don't have the power to alter your tone, though I was hoping appealing towards basically saying "you type like someone intelligent so please stop being mean" would work. -

Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't questioning your intelligence or calling into question your sexual orientation. I was calling you out for a number of very mean-spirited posts you've been making lately, far worse than any other regular poster that doesn't have the grammar or spelling of an angry teenager, meaning that I feel it's at least worth pointing out in the hopes you'll knock off all the ad hominem and venomous snipes.Do I get overly aggressive at times? Sure. But you hhave successfully derailed a number of conversations into flaming, and I'm not sure if that's your goal. Back on track - One thing I hate about private servers is admin abuse. As Acadia said, Rust is almost exclusively private servers. I've had to build up a number of characters because I seem to inevitably do something to piss off an admin, i.e. not kiss his ass. This means I either get raided because the admin and his friends get unlimited C4 -somehow-, or I shoot the admin in the face and get kicked. I know it's a bias, so I don't want to make it the sole basis of my argument, but I've yet to play any non traditonal FPS games with private servers and active admins who didn't arbitrarily kick / ban people simply because they felt like it. Hell, every DayZ server had this happeninf until BI basically made it against the rules. And sadly, Rust already has official servers that are essentially unplayable because they're so full of people who don't give two fucks because their "real" character is on one of the private servers. -
Gotta agree here. The way you died seems way more in line with the stair bug. Also, there are a lot of ways to glitch / exploit and kill people in spots where they can see you but they can't be seen. It's still cheating, but certainly not hacking. You have to be careful with hackusations. When you get killed by a legitimate hacker (oxymoron), you'll know. You. Will. Know.

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I was stating it's supposed to be hard, not claiming it's too difficult. You are perhaps one of the worst posters on these forums. I have yet to see you post any response that isn't, in some way, an insult to someone else or an attempt to be very disruptive. You really need to work on your personal insecurities. No one confident in their arguments has to result in belittlement. -
You don't understand because without an IQ higher than 137, you're stupid. Duh! On that note, who the hell posts their (probably false) IQ on a video game forum and believes that's going to accomplish anything but invite more ridicule? Did he really believe we'd stop the presses and reassess our comments?

Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Well, then they fucked up. The fun of this game, in its core design, is how hard it's supposed to be. That's not a hipster stance, that's just the truth about why this game was created and called an "anti-game". There are plenty of shooters out there that let you start with a gun and loadout and then engage in pure PvP. Arma 3 does that, as does Battlefield 4. A lot of DayZ mod vets all told me to stay off the Vanilla servers when I downloaded it (and never played). The reason was always "have fun playing with hackers and spastics". Every server I tried to join told me I needed to DL their version and I just got frustrated and went to other games that didn't feel like a project just to get into. -
That was going to be my question, but I forgot to include that. One asshole was using the 3PP glitch to peek into the jail at the Balota airfield. I could tell because he would try to shoot me when I was trying to check windows to make sure no one was trying to glitch through walls. I refused to glitch back, but he ALWAYS knew when I wasn't covering the closed door. (He would open it when I went to a back room, and pop shots and then close the door and go back to the view glitch spot). In order to put an end to this, I ran under the stairs and sat down and counted to 5. He immediately thought I was trying to log and he came sprinting inside. All he got was peppered with FNX rounds. Point is, how would you know he is logging if he is 1000 meters away? If you can see him in the log out position, shoot him. If you can't, he's technically not in combat and his logging out isn't combat logging.

Careful there. One of my clients got shot in the face with a .45 ACP. It was a close range shot and it ricocheted off his forehead. Cracked his skull and he was bleeding, but he didn't get knocked over or knocked out. Just because something happens doesn't mean it's typical.

A lot of hackers do indeed steal accounts and then use hacks in games to test the quality of hacks, or just be straight up dicks. If you can prove your account was hijacked, simply contact the anti-cheat provider with the proof. Posting it here really won't do anything but attract flaming because a lot of hackers have a zillion excuses as to why they were banned.

Your arugment is flawed. Of course a 7mm Remington is more lethal than a .22. Getting hit by a train is also more lethal than getting hit by a Honda Civic, but it doesn't mean that either is preferable. No one is saying that a .22 is a super round that tears people limb from limb, but so many people like to act as though it just tickles or leaves light bruising.
-
You had plenty of time to kill him. You missed your window and he "got away". I don't like combat loggers, but there has to be some give or take, or it will get ridiculous. I had 2 hours to play, and started getting shot as soon as I logged in a few nights ago. I managed to run my ass off and get into a little remote house and bandage myself. I popped up and saw 2 people advance. I shot both, and immediately started taking more fire. I was trading shots for a good 30 minutes. I hit another 2 guys, didn't kill them, and they hit me, breaking my arm. For the NEXT 30 minutes they just wanted to play the waiting game, going 3PP behind trees and waiting for me to eventually make a run for it (suicide) or rush them (suicide). I am stupidly patient in this game, and would have gladly spent 5 hours waiting to see who got bored first and make a move, but then my wife needed me to do something and was clearly getting agitated with "hold on". So I took the risk and logged off. I was certain they'd see my character sit down and rush me, but I came back a few hours later just to see if I was dead, and surprisingly I successfully logged out without a scratch. So my question is, what should be the proper procedure be when this happens? Combat logging is grimy, but gun fights and conflicts can last a LONG time. It's unreasonable to force people to play-or-be-punished for an X amount of time, because life happens. Yes, it's annoying when you're sniping and you miss your shot / injure someone and they run into a building and log. The solution? Aim better. The current 30 second timer is fine because people can no longer disappear the second a bullet whizzes by.
-
Regardless, your previous statement seemed to heavily imply that .22 rounds aren't lethal and can't hit anything at 200 meters. I was simply pointing out that underestimating the lethality of a .22 is a mistake that most gamers make, because clearly the only round that's lethal in one shot are .50 BMG rounds, according to video games. No need to get overly defensive.

And COD is far more popular than DayZ or any modded servers. What's your point? -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
When you remove that choice, people either have to deal with it or play a different game. Considering how many people play this, despite all the bitching, I doubt forcing this experience will be an issue. Now, if you splinter the community into 5,000 servers with their own character data, it hurts the community as a whole. -
Why Private Hives should be limited when they become available
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
The problem is that people gravitate to the path of least resistance. Despite all the belly aching about how hard this game is, people adapt and overcome. When private hives come out that tweak features, even juuuuust a little bit, the majority of people hop off of the public hives and into private ones. My friend stopped playing the mod because if he wanted the true, real DayZ experience he had to play on servers with maybe 5 or 6 people, 3 of which were usually hackers.
