The only way an M4 would be as inaccurate as it is in game was if it was broken, you were coming off heroin and you'd not only never shot a gun before, but had stick like arms that could barely lift it.

PS - Just so we're clear, I am for having less weapons on the server and I am against server hopping (despite being guilty of it). Once server hopping is eliminated then perhaps I can always stay on the server I like and nor have to be sad that at 8 AM every spot has been picked clean by server hoppers despite the server only holding 3 people.

I agree that currently we have too many decked out COD-looking mofos running around. Problem is, with weapon spawns being dialed back so hard, and no threats existing outside of other players, I fear this game will get very boring very fast until zombies become a threat like the mod. I know it's not the point of the game, but firefights of roving bands of bandits / heroes has been the highlight of my experience after I dumped in about 100 hours of exploring. I mean, it will be nice to not run into 39 people on the server looking like Rambo, but still. I also think the KOS'ing will get way worse once server hopping is squashed, but hopefully I'm wrong. Unfortunately I'm so paranoid of losing my Mosin after the last patch that I blast anyone I see because I don't want to lose it.

I figured I should have pointed out that I am indeed just being grumpy about something that should be expected. I don't know the first thing about programming, coding or any other technical aspect of making a game, let alone one of those scope. This particular sound glitch is currently very frustrating when it gets you jacked up because you're eventually taken off guard when a zombie is actually there, but I don't know how difficult this glitch is to fix. All I know is that this particular sound glitch has been happening a LOT more lately, and it's gotten me killed at least three times because I don't know I've aggroed a zed until it's right on me, causing me to get hit and then either bleed to death or alert KOS players to my location.

You just have to go to YouTube and watch videos of people hacking any game you can name. I remember back when APB launched (I loved that game, I don't care what anyone says) hacking was out of control. Almost everyone I played with quit, not because the game lacked content on release (it did), but because it was impossible to accomplish much with everyone ESP hacking and aim botting. Like any game forum, people claimed we were all just sore losers who got owned by skilled players until even the dev team came out and said that hacking was out of control. Hell, every third video on YouTube about the game was someone showcasing them hacking and trolling everyone. I don't think it will get that bad as this game gets closer to launch down the months, but Rocket definitely needs to make it a priority before launch because in a game where getting stuff takes many hours and you can lose it all in the blink of an eye, cheating will massacre the player base support.

If someone has me dead to rights but talks instead of shoots, I will converse with my guard up. I don't usually have nice things, so there is no real reason to sweet talk me then back stab me unless you're trying to troll, though it doesn't bother me as this is just a game.

I get it gives less effect ad worn than pristine. I just don't want a worn compensator to negatively effect my pristine Mosin, as once I lose this Mosin for whatever reason, I'm predicting I won't see one for a long long time again.

The only people who find the spawn rates for weapons a problem are people who don't server hope. Unforunately, I server hop and it's because so many people do it, I know, it's a negative feedback loop and contributes to the problem, but I end up spending hours running from place to place only to find everything picked clean, even on the server I regularly play on when no one is even there. I check the player window and routinely notice people sign on, 3 minutes later sign off. And I KNOW that everyone server hops on the server I play on, because after around 4 PM, the server is full and everyone is kitted out like a damn Delta Force Operator with fully modded pristine M4's and long range scoped Mosins. So yeah, if you don't server hope you're going to be in a 40 man server with 39 other people who you are constantly at the mercy of. If melee wasn't so buggy because of random desync and collision problems, perhaps it would be more fun to play the honorable way and stalk someone and then chop them in the head. Unfortunately, I've done this with mixed results because I'll chop someone and suddenly they slide 10 feet to the right and then open fire on me, or I chop them clearly in the head, but now all of their gear is ruined. But like deebz1234 said, messing with loot tables shouldn't be the priority. Once they find a solution to server hopping and combat logging, you'll be able to more regularly find guns because people wouldn't have just picked every place clean by server hopping. On that note, I do love to camp the schools and barracks and wait till I see someone spawn in and shoot them in the face to steal their gear. That's always rewarding.

How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??
Demoth replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
If you act like a sniper is always on you you will constantly be moving, and that gets you ambushed by people laying in wait. Eventually you will have to stop and manage your inventory, deal with a zed or drink from a well, and you'd be surprised at the angles you can hit people from. Point being, you can dodge sniper fire, but against someone patient and skilled, you will get dropped and lose HOURS of progress and if the sniper is skilled enough with concealment, and friends you have will be powerless to avenge you to salvage your gear. Snipers, aside from server hoppers, are indeed rare, but the only optics to scan for them are other sniper scopes attached to a Mosin. Until we get super binoculars, snipers with skill will be uncontested. -
How to get a long range scope now that tent spawns have been removed??
Demoth replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Despite the fact that I love sniping (true sniping with distance and wind variables, travel time and being in true concealment that took an hour to craaaaawl to) I agree that the Mosin and any future long ranged weapons are going to be horribly game breaking until they add in a reasonable day-night cycle that can't be cheated by messing with the gamma and brightness. I posted in another thread about how I was somehow in a real sniper groove with some luck with people moving towards and away from me, rather than from right to left (which makes shots VERY difficult), but all my shots were 800m or more and I was concealed way up in the mountains behind Elektro, in a bush. The jerks I killed were all trying to KOS a kid I just met who was just trying to get some gear and food while i covered him. Thing was, none of these guys had any recourse to my onslaught. They couldn't really tell where I was shooting from and none of them had optics with any prayer of spotting me or even hitting me if they did. If I had just been trying to terrorize Elektro, it probably would have cleared the server as it's not fun, from a game design, to have one class of weapon with no answer to it. That's also because while the Mosin may not be great for CQB, it's still viable as it is far more accurate than an M4 even close up and a 1 hitter quitter unless you hit a limb. The only game I can think of where the sniper has no direct counter is Call of Duty, and that's only because the maps are so CQB oriented that most SMG's can be just as effective. Battlefield had either vehicles being the bane of snipers, or gave snipers a disadvantage by making their scopes gleam in BF3 and 4, or making a team of snipers worthless in matches where objectives were key. -
Survivor in Berezino with Sack on his head?
Demoth replied to marsmars's topic in General Discussion
Currently there is a chance that dead or knocked out players will get back up on some people's screens. I had to shoot someone outside of the fire station in Elektro. On my screen he got back up but for my friends he was face down and dead. I wasted 15 additional bullets on him because again, on my screen he looked alive. It's just a bug. -
Do you Think DayZ Should Port to Console?
Demoth replied to bebopspeedy's topic in General Discussion
It wouldn't be as robust as the PC because of the lack of modding for private servers and generally games like DayZ usually don't get the continued support once they hit consoles. But I'm all for more people having access to great games as long as the devs stick to their view about how the game is meant to be, rather than making it more streamlined for the masses. -
Yes, I ended up typing a story much longer than I meant to, sorry. Point was, I had fun making a bright-eyed naive friend and was sad that the game still revolved around me murdering everyone we ran into because they insisted on KOS'ing, or trying to once I was in the mountains.

Currently, melee is pretty broken because of desync and choppy animations. I've axed so many people who were not even near me, or weren't in front of me, I've missed people dead center of me, and been killed by people who seemed to be moonwalking backwards at me.... and my comp normally handles this game well and I don't have these problems in firefights. I heard the animations are much better than the mod, but this game is not Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and I doubt it ever will be that smooth and precise (I mean, I hope it does get that smooth!) Engaging in melee with someone is incredibly risky and a crap shoot for both parties because if the game decided to lag, or some desync happens, you're going to take an axe to the face from someone who APPEARS to be rubber banding 10 feet away with their flank towards you. And I've heard a lot of people claim about how super 1337 they are with melee and how they took out 3 guys with M4's with one blow each because they've learned the melee mechanic. I've engaged those same guys in an axe fight for bragging rights and won most of them by just mashing left click and wildly moving forwards and backwards.... not because I'm some melee weapons expert. EDIT: spelling and fixing my phone's auto correcting words into things I didn't want.

I made friends with a kid who sounded around twelve (ready for Dateline NBC jokes). Thing is he is the most mature player I've met so far; he could have shot me in the back in Balota as I had awesome gear. Instead I hear a young voice ask, "Are you friendly?" I had my gun on my back and he had a Mosin on me. I said I try but I tend to KOS because everyone KOS's and I get tired of losing my shit. He said he'd trust me and I didn't betray him. We split loot, took out some zombies and suddenly come under fire. He distracted the guy, but the guy combat logged and tthen ghosted to our flank, but thankfully he sucked, only injured the kid and I M4'd Mr. KOS-ghost in the back of the head. A server hopper then got the kid a few minutes later, I killed that guy and then high tailed it out of Balota to try and meet the kid in Elektro. That kid tried to be nice to everyone he met and was KOS'd as a Bambi 8 times. When we finally met up, I told him I'd give him sniper cover from waaaay up on the mountain overlooking Elektro, as someone I had encountered on my way to Elektro tried to close range kill me with his long range scoped Mosin at a watering hole and I panic fired and got lucky headshot. THEN as this kid is trying to get supplies I had to snipe around 10 (yes, TEN) different geared out people who kept firing on his Bambi self. I kept ruining everyone's gear unfortunately except for one guy in the fire station who I managed to score an 800 meter headshot because he decided to stay perfectly still for 5 seconds, so the kid got really kitted out (this guy had a fully nodded M4 and FNX45 with mags for days). This was probably the most fun I've ever had in DayZ, but it would have been MORE fun if I hadn't been forced to play it as Battlefield 3 recon-class killing everyone because they didn't want to let a new-spawn looking 12 year old live despite him saying "stop, I'm friendly!"... and considering most of the guys I took out were rolling in groups of 3 with full M4's with 837,577,382 double mags, I'd say they were pretty safe from harm, they just wanted to blast someone. Again, play how you want. It's an Alpha and things will change. Right now there is the much incentive to team up except for having someone to talk to. And considering that loot doesn't respawn, guns are so rare on any given server and server hopping suddenly makes it easy, the easiest way to get great gear without server hopping is to shoot people who have sweet gear. I'm assuming server hopping is still out of control because on 40 man servers, it's always mayhem in coastal cities with 30 guys all decked out like SEALs.

Are they going to change the animations / smooth them out?
Demoth posted a topic in General Discussion
I know that this game isn't centered around PvP, but PvP happens. Unfortunately, right now, CQB is in a poor shape. Animations are too twitchy, connecting with melee is way off, and once a player starts sprinting and stopping the game seems to have trouble and things become jerky. I am not saying I can't melee battle, but there have been times I was popping someone where it looked like my axe was hitting their head, but somehow totally missed and they turned around and shot me.... and then I meet someone else and punch them out and steal their gun even though they circle strafe behind me when my punch apparently connected. It's quite annoying how fast people can move, but I'm fine with their speed. It's the jerkiness that's becoming obnoxious and makes melee a game of chance if both people know how to move like spastics. I know lag is also probably playing a roll in this, but I lost a crowbar vs. axe fight earlier in Elektro with a roof sniper because he was prone shooting at the school. I snuck up, got my crowbar and ran up and started hitting him..... or so I thought. I hit him twice and then started hitting the ground through him. He got up and then started sprinting bare fisted and the game seemed to have difficulty with keeping up and he got his axe and chopped me. He was moving so fast the game seemed to think he went off the side if the hospital, but corrected it so he was behind for me and I had to jump one level below and bandage. So yeah, while some of that may have been lag, the jerkiness and kind of teleporting effect always happens when people get too close. -
Are they going to change the animations / smooth them out?
Demoth replied to Demoth's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the feedback guys. My comp runs the game pretty smoothly except for some cities lately. Not sure why but the new patch has caused frame rate problems in Elektro. Glad to hear it was improved from the mod, gives me hope. Just that yeah, some people jump around WAY to much, but like you said it might be latency issue, though not necessarily on just my end as I have a very fast connection, though sometimes in this game my ping spikes for a few seconds randomly when a lot of people are in one area. -
No offense, but I strongly dislike answers that are basically "I've never experienced this so it means it doesn't happen". Because of the update and servers not resetting, shit is getting looted to the point where nothing is around anywhere at times. Earlier was near 4 towns North West from Kamyshovo and they'd all been picked clean and then I died from hunger. I like scrounging to survive and yes, it does get boring and you lose tension when you're stocked with enough food to live forever, but we're simply trying to give feedback to find some balance. It's not fun to make food so rare that you're always staving off hunger while trying to also manage 30 other tasks.

What You Paid $30 For - A Very Long Post About Early Access
Demoth replied to hells high's topic in General Discussion
There is a third group you're forgetting about: jaded consumers who have been part of alpha early accesses and early beta builds who point out glaring flaws for months only to be ignored and have the retail release be a disaster. I don't fall under that category, but I've beta tested games like APB Online (won't lie, I had fun with it until it died a month or two in), but those of us who did all the testing were reporting and documenting and even getting dev feedback only to get a buggy, hacker-rampant content starved game released. I think some people make such a hoopla about their concerns because they're afraid Rocket will just ignore them and the game will release in a sorry stafe. Personally, I have faith. -
If there is a thread like this, I haven't seen it OR I'm quite possibly blind and so I apologize. Either way, let me start off with a story that made my day, and would make it even better if I could have stuck around to see what the aftermath had been. I spawned on a server where some severe new-spawn massacring was going down. Fine. I make a break for the hills and somehow dodge my attackers without ever having seen them one (I'm terrible at spotting people in this game when they're hidden). So I go north a bit, peeking through trees and notice a gas station. I run down, see a dead guy with lots of gear. I take it, and one is an axe. Suddenly I'm shot in the leg and duck into the gas station, then bolt out the back and prone through bushes. I'm bleeding and I have no bandages / shirt to tear into rags. NOT GOOD! I crawl my way towards a shack and as I get close, I see movement and a gun barrel stick out. I figure I'll see what's in it because I'm about to bleed to death anyway, so I 3rd person it and there are two guys with fully modded out M4's, lots of mil-gear and they're side by side in this tiny-ass shack. The shack could hold, at -most- 3 people and really only gives a vantage point of the gas station. I ask, "Guys, I'm not a thread. I take it you're not friendly though". No response. I type it out.... no response. Well, no guts not glory, right? I scream into my mic like a maniac and charge into the shed, swingin' my trusty axe and hitting the guy on the right two times. I ran in between them so they both turn in and go full-auto panic spraying. I definitely smacked one dude twice, but obviously my screen went immediately black and I couldn't tell what their ultimate fate was. Did the guy bandage up and live to see another day? Did they hit each other? Did one of them / both of them die? Either way, I thought screaming while charging into a shed with an axe and causing a Polish firing squad was just one of those moments.... ya know?

I was worried it was just me. I too was running everything on medium with very little slowdown. I log on and look at Eletro and suddenly my frames dipped to something like 5, it was crazy. It IS an alpha problem because they are working on a solution to server hopping to make it no feasible. That is one of the things they are testing right now.

So I've seen and heard a lot about how terrible the M4 is when it comes to accuracy. Personally, I haven't even shot mine yet because I never actually see anyone in this game, I just get immediately wasted without any warning (I try to be slow and methodical, but I guess people who have played the game longer know the best camp spots) Still, I've died about 8 times on different servers from being killed by other players, and they have ALL had full decked M4's and then lit me up hard. I don't always know their distances, but some of the spots I've died in there was no cover for many MANY meters (like 300 or so) and I hear the *thunk, thunk, thunk* and then I die. Furthermore, why does EVERYONE and their mother have an M4? I thought they were stupidly rare. I admit, I server hopped to get mine because I really wanted to play around with it and I was tired of always coming face to face with people who KOS with it.... though so far it hasn't mattered because I still get shot without any warning. I also can't tell if this game has bad audio because I can never tell which direction I'm being shot from, unlike in both other games and in real life where I'm always able to immediately tell where shots are coming from, or at LEAST get a general idea.

You realize that even when people write fiction, they use points of reference, studies of psychology and trends on human behavior. Yes, it's a piece of fiction, and no, there has never been a zombacoplyse, but the break down of societies and people fighting over very limited resources has happened and it's usually quite brutal at first. Sorry that anything that isn't a 100% accurate historical documentary is suddenly completely inplausable and make believe. I guess when someone gets their head cut off in a ficticious work, that means in real life people live when they're decapitated.

To the cheaters in Electro last night around 9:05 Eastern Time
Demoth replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Dude, don't mock him. He'll run 32 miles just to lift you up and toss you like a rag doll.... assuming you weigh under 300 lbs.
